WHAT DO YOU M E A N N N N N N

Comments

it would be so cool if you and Casper ever did an interview with Jorge like how you did with Teagan! Your guys’ insight in this musical is awesome and it would be so cool to see one day! ☺️❤️❤️

Jennifer Rose

I just noticed something from Mutiny, the pose on “I need to get - home…” and god games. “Who’s a prisoner far from - home…

Josie Martinson

Interesting insight into the Athena vs. Ares quick-thought question: In the TikTok video where the singers first delved into clips from this song, a clock effect and blue text signaled the start of Athena's quick thought, but then it's countered by a red clock effect and "Quick Thought x2" in red from Ares! Then Athena's quick thought overrides his when she sings again. Could be that they have the same sort of battle mind time distortion since they're both war gods.

Robert LeMoyne

So fun fact. Hades, Poseidon and Zeus are the big three when it comes to greek gods. they each have their own domain and can not make rulings over the others when it comes to their domains. Zeus literally can't tell poseidon to do shit here, cause odysseus is forced to travel over the ocean which belongs to poseidon, not zeus.

Drew Schneider

Mortius speaks only the truth, Zeus SUCKS!!! Most of Greek Mythos can be summed up by 'Zeus stuck his **** in it, and now it's everyones problem'. Funnily enough, the start of the Trojan war is one of the few times it wasn't Zeus's fault XD

Dee Cee

Ya granted zues can strip godhood but athean is also the favorite daughter and there's kinda the whole athena and odessus story point that needs a resolution because currently it's still my goodbye was the last time they saw eachother

Hunter

According to Calypso in Epic universe, goddesses can’t die 😅 but no, definitely Athena didn’t die in Homer’s Odyssey, so at best, she’s just incapacitated for a bit

Paige EJ

You can check ns2dstudios tiktok for answers on why the ichor is red and not gold :)

G D S

I love this song so much, the only thing that keeps bothering me is how Athena's blood is red, aren't Greek gods' blood supposed to be gold, being ichor, or is this Percy Jackson brainrot, because I totally thought gold blood was canon. I am baffled.

Existing Introvert

Zeus and Posiden have hella beef so he wouldn't call upon him.

Baron Salt

Nah, he would want Ody free so he can kill him

WetH8des

Frick yeah.

Kory Misun

your best is all we can ask for, please stay safe stay sane and remember to breath and enjoy whe sunshine you have <3

Ash Hamilton

Also it apparently looked like mustard

Soul Hunter

This is not the wisdom saga this is the trauma saga

Grayson Seale

Which also casts doubt on her immortality. Maybe goddesses can't die, but a goddess who's grown human enough to bleed red...?

Bean of Glory

Part of me wonders if he placed that line of Calypso's in the song right before to sow doubt & hope. It absolutely hurts worse when you're not sure of which way it's going, when you remember that line but also remember that maybe the king of the gods (from the beginning of the next song) has more god-ending ability due to his position in the pantheon

Bean of Glory

Yeh it definitely would not have hurt the same with mustard blood XD

Bean of Glory

The classic father-daughter bond XD

Bean of Glory

I’m surprised that Zeus didn’t make her convince Poseidon since he has the biggest beef with ody if he didn’t want her to win his game

Lexi Rasmussen

Hera isn’t just impressed by Ody’s fidelity because she’s tired of being cheated on. She is also the goddess of marriage. Being faithful to your spouse is essentially holy to her.

Ashley Evers

It always warms my heart when Athen owns up her friendship with Telemachus to Ares and practically shouts out that Telemachus is her friend 🧡. She sounds so protective of him in a way she never was with Ody.

Jane Jones

Whenever I feel down, all I need to do is replay Mortius's reaction to the last part of God Games and I instantly get a dopamine hit. Thank you. And yeah. MORTIIIUUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSS!

G D S

Also Hera’s music is Disco because Jorge was inspired by Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive when writing her part

YourManReb

Ares’ instrument is an Erhu which has Chinese Origins. This was meant to be a subtle nod to Sun Tzu’s The Art of War

YourManReb

I'm sure he thought Hera would be the end of it. She HATES "Heros" (mostly because they are her Husband's bastards). But Getting Hera on-side because he's unfaithful is probably the 'shame' (Also, I don't know why he thought that, Hera was against Troy in the War).

Mellissa Marcus

“I can’t kick his ass while he’s on the island, so…”

Mafidon

You make good points. Zeus is very talented at giving the illusion of a choice, in horrific 'Would You Rather?' games where nothing ends happily.

Kory Misun

I think Zeus never thought Athena was going to win because it was going to be a loss if Athena only had to convince Zeus and he wanted her to have the illusion of choice by saying "or me" because he just wanted entertainment from her trying to convince everyone else and since she beat the game, his true colors came out because he never expected her to win anyway. And she brought "shame" to him. Well, at least that's what I think.

Quxxn fan

At least our mean boy Ares was concerned enough about his half-sister to ask if she was gone after the big blast. I agree, Zeus is the biggest dong. I am curious, in the snippet we get, he says 'And me,' but in this he says 'Or me.' Does he mean Athena needs to convince the roster of gods, or manage to convince him on his own in order to win. I am confusion.

Kory Misun

Someone speculated that the way Athena goes through the gods to get their approval is almost like mini-boss fights - with no real skin in the game, Apollo and Hephaestus would be the easiest to convince that it's not worth keeping Odysseus locked away on Calypso's island as a punishment, but gets harder slightly with Aphrodite who felt Odysseus didn't do enough trying to get back for those he claims to love and Ares who sees him as a coward for using his intelligence to outwit enemies rather than being a blundering blockhead using brute force. Hera was meant to seem like someone who would be hard to convince, as Zeus's counterpart and Queen of the gods, but she was also very easy - which i feel in part is because Hera loves to spite Zeus.

Ashley

I want the entire musical animated in the style of that final scene! It's so good!!

Jeremy Sellers

It's one of the reasons that everyone's having trouble figuring out the timeline. At least one of those 20 years in the original epic are taken up by the long time that Odysseus and his men spend on Circe's island, but the decision to make Odysseus both an unwaveringly faithful husband (a change I quite like, personally) and unwavering in his resolve to get home renders it...improbable, to say the least, that he would spend at least an entire year with Circe.

SK Elkins

We are finally at got games what got me in to epic I was so excited I came on here for the first time to see the reaction as I couldn't wait 3+weeks love your reaction man ❤️ will definitely rewatch this on youtube when it comes out

Wicked-fellow

I literally typed "WHAT DO YOU MEEEEEAN???" in the livestream chat when the final title card popped up, so I fully understand! This is worse than the end of Thunder Saga for me, b/c at least a lot of us knew what was coming...but not this!!!

fluffqueen91

SO TRUE!!! Nothing Jay does is accidental except for the year count 🤣 and Elepenor not being added to the total lol (I think he fixed it after but I'm not sure)

ManiacKuzco

You know I wasn't even thinking about the fact that it's Zeus against Athena and he is the Father King of the gods that's a great point, I know in the Odyssey Zeus said to Athena that if she integers with the Trojan word he would hurt her bad enough it would take 10 years to heal so that's why I was thinking she can't die but it IS Zeus we're talking about so anything could happen lol

ManiacKuzco

Fair point. But what I’ve learned studying this show is that nothing is accidental. I 100% think that it was his clever way of hiding a message.

Ethan Schwenzer

It's okay Apollo is the on-site medic :"

rainigraphy

In "We'll Be Fine" when Telemachus says "you're my friend, I couldn't ask for more", that lyric in the original snippet was "you're the friend I've never had before :') "

Deb

And literal godmother Athena. :')

Seiryunohoushi

Disco Queen Hera is everything.

Seiryunohoushi

he has a Youtube channel (just called Brandon McInnis) where he does covers of anime and games among other things, so maybe that'll help :)

EngelDraws

on the gods and death thing, that's mortal Vs god, not god Vs god let alone king of the gods Vs god

Phoenix Mackenzie

yeah being a prince could mean he has no other friends

Phoenix Mackenzie

Even if she (Athena) doesn't die she's still gravely hurt. I mean, I always feel like just getting hurt that close to dying is still worth being worried over.

Kayleigh McRae

Lmaooo... mustard blood.

Rue R

Understandable, thanks for sharing, although I am beyond logic and reason, it still bugs me, I’m sure there is a way to make it look good golden, maybe trying to make it look metallic? Idk. I’m a bit happier that it was a choice and not just forgotten/mistake. Still bugs me tho. Amazing animatic regardless.

William Watson

I actually had the same question about disco Hera! Did some searching around the internet and found this old video by Jorge: https://www.tiktok.com/@jorgeherrans/video/6944569449529888006?lang=en. It also mentions what instrument Ares has and why!

Opal Saphyr

WHY DOES THE GOD OF MUSIC ONLY GET ONE LINE!!!!!!!

William Watson

The line between naïveté and hopefulness is almost invisible Poseidon warned us, you can’t trust the gods. If Athena wasn’t being emotional she would have seen from the start, Zeus was not going to release him, getting other gods to agree with her will only piss him off. Athena should have saw this coming, and we should have too. Cuz Zeus is a massive *insert What here*

William Watson

My thoughts during the livestream: "How could you, Zeus?! That is your baby girl! She came out of your FACE!"

Amber Branson

I'm honestly very saddened by how short Apollo's part is, but especially because I looked his singer up and he mostly does anime dubs, which are fine, but don't use any of that incredible tamber! I've no where else to get my fix but that one line!

Colby Zimmermann

I think a good reason why Hera was so disco and flashy was because her sacred animal was the peacock! She was peacocking!

Colby Zimmermann

Watching Gwendy's livestream after it, apparently 1. The golden ichor looked too much like mustard; and 2. It was suggested to change it to blood to show how much more human Athena has learned to become ever since leaving Odysseus

Riley Garcia

Yeah Jay has taken a lot of creative liberties in this telling. I dont know if you saw but he actually made a YT short explaining that you shouldnt take Epic as the true story. Another one of the changes that he made that i found interesting is Odysseus' time with Circe. In the original story Ody spent a number of years with her and even had a child with her.

Tiger 5OO

Greek Gods are immortal and can not die, I know Jay is changing some things/doing his interpretation of how things work (like how his misunderstanding of floating island became “Island in the sky”), but I doubt he would kill a god. (But he did kill Polites early, best boi was supposed to be snatched by Scylla, I’m scared to underestimate him)

William Watson

My one problem is that Athena should have bled golden ichor, the blood of the gods, not red blood. Idk why little things like that bug me so much.

William Watson

When does Casper’s reaction to the animatics come out on OAR????

Sammantha Lloyd

No one can read you for filth like your sibling. Related: Ares - "Pathetic and weak like his son" Athena- "and I took that personally"

Anon E. Mouse

That ending.... worth the extra just to get that

DnD Addict

Best girl Warmother stood on business.

Dunning Kruger Fxs

Unless Jorge twisted a lot of mythos, no Athena isn't dead but she did get the shit knocked out of her (unsure how else to phrase that lol) and is probably out of commission for a bit, is my guess? I mean, they did make a point of saying 'Goddesses can't die' with Calypso which I doubt was an accident.

Kristina (LadyGreensleeves33)

Your end face was pretty much everyone when that stream ended

Sleepy.novatea

When I tell you those of us on the livestream were DESTROYED and you know what Jalepeno did?!?! HE LAUGHED we all said he's getting the invoices for therapy and it was just EXCUSE ME?! Hello that's not the end right Jay? ....right? And then he thanked us for watching said he loved us and just LEFTTTT IM NOT OKAY but I know Athena didn't die, Calypso specifically said Goddesses can't die and I believe that's 10000% intentional

ManiacKuzco

Jorge: who's animating this? Everyone:yes

Phoenix Mackenzie

I feel like Jorge was like "hey guys god games is coming up who wants to animate it?" And everyone put there hands up

Eep

All I'm saying is Athena learned Polites way of life with light sooo who was really wrong in the end? But yea I'm worried too I hope she's just sleeping I refuse to believe her light went out. There's so many thoughts running thru my mind what could be next The what saga has returned lol Can't wait to see Casper's reaction to this once you show him in Open Arms 💕

Zakksu

The switch to trumpets at the end of the song and Athenas pleading was absolutely masterful and broke me

Jimmy Toad

Athena earlier mentioned Ody’s light went dark. Now it ends with her light going out? Im baffled.

alaan vanderveer

You got a point. Its worse when you remember Telemachus thinks of Athena as a friend then this happens. I don't know if Telemachus has any other friends (not in a rude way) but if not, he could've lost his only friend

Oceanna Denham

But that's mortal Vs god, not god Vs god let alone king of the gods Vs god

Phoenix Mackenzie

I love the idea of framing "God Games" like the levels of an actual video game, where each boss is more difficult than the last. Apollo and Hephaestus as early bosses who are fairly easy to overcome. Aphrodite and Ares acting as a dual boss fight to ramp up the difficulty. Hera, whose battle comes in a few phases, and finally, Zeus as the impossible boss who you're not meant to beat. One thing I really would have loved for Jorge to include for Apollo, however, is the fact that Apollo backed the Trojans during the war. He HEAVILY favoured Hector, whose death Athena had a hand in, (she tricked Hector into believing she was one of his brothers and would help him fight Achilles,) and whose son we know Odysseus murdered. With that in mind, Hephaestus honestly probably should have been "Level 1" here. He was on the Achaeans' side during the war, so he doesn't have much beef with either Athena or Odysseus, other than being rejected by Athena at one point. (Y'know, if I had a nickel for every time a musical based on a classic piece of literature used video game boss framing in the latter half of the musical and ended in tears, I'd have two nickels, but...)

Macabrellian

Jorge told Gwendy to do that because Athena's whole arc was gaining Humanity

Tyler Owens

It's not. Jorge told Gwendy to do that because Athena's whole arc was gaining Humanity

Tyler Owens

Another fun little detail, is the piano melody during the 20 year flashback at the tail end of the first half of it, flips from being warrior of the mind, to legendary. then it goes back to warrior of the mind with all of the other instruments joining in.

LegoDM

I forgot til I rewatched Mortius reaction but thank you. Still, it's very sad

Oceanna Denham

But calypso specifically said "last I checked goddesses can't die" and that feels really intentional

Alphabetical

My #1 question is why on earth is Athena bleeding red?

Alphabetical

Yeah, I assume the lack of ichor was just an oversight on the animator's part.

Macabrellian

BTW this is fully my headcanon, but I think Poseidon would want to release Odysseus just to kill him. Or at least give him another good beating.

Emily

That's exactly it and when it comes to Calypso's line I think she meant if a mortal tries to kill a god. Now here's the question - Can a god kill a god? King of gods no less?

Emily

I hate to be That Guy™, but in the interest of spreading the mythology love around: The sacred cattle don't belong to Apollo, they belong to Helios; Apollo was not considered to be the sun god at the time Homer's Odyssey was written. His domain at the time included music, prophecy, archery, and healing/disease. Also, I don't recall Anticlea having any connection to Aphrodite, but Aphrodite WAS on the Trojans' side during the war and Odysseus' close friend, Diomedes, is someone she MOST DEFINITELY has beef with.

Macabrellian

There’s absolutely NO SHOT Athena is dead, she’s a freaking Olympian! Although, did anyone else find it weird she bled red instead of gold?

Scorpius27

it wasnt even apollo's cows. it was helios's cows. apollo wasnt the god of the sun yet during the oddyssey. he only gained the position sometime later in history after the supposed era epic is in.

ShadowFox1412

With the exception of Zeus himself (and to a much lesser extent - Apollo already got justice for his cows), almost none of these gods have ever interacted with Odysseus, so they're not invested at all. Even Aphrodite only has a connection to him through his mother, and Ares afaik never interfered with Ody during the entire 10 years of the Trojan war. Really his beef seems more directly with Athena than Ody. So for most of them, given the parameters Zeus set, all they *need* is just a rebuttal to a point. Easy-peasy.

J Seaborg

Man I cried so much 😭

J

Because it's just seen as silly mortal antics, nothing that important or noteworthy for gods

The Feywild

To me, some of the gods (Apollo especially) being very easy to convince shows how they don't ACTUALLY care that much, they just have a mild disagreement, and when Athena counters it, they're like "alright, shit, I didn't really care anyway, sure, release him" That's just what I got though

The Feywild

Will you watch the animatics for the snippets of God Games?

Султан .Бахытжанов

Athena is just a lil eepy

StrangeBrian

Hera is Zeus’ much betrayed wife. Athena used the perfect argument to prove Odysseus’ worth. Yes, the ending - with Zeus reneging on his “game” - s##ks.

Dorothy Rosenberg

God games is basically a boss rush with each boss getting more difficult

Jacob Minger

I mean, Athena does try to convince the gods to release Odysseus, though it’s not a full on battle.

MildlyPerturbed

I filmed my reaction of the wisdom saga and I had the exact same reaction to the end. I sat in silence for 10-15 seconds and then said what the f-

Lauren Hedman

yeah thats my same reactions

MJ

Also quick thought from the previous video... "She is the only friend he didn't SAW die" and I imidietely went "well he did not SEE her die..." >_>

NeNo

I told ya, your therapy bill will grow after this one... I made a mitake of watching the livestream at work and thank god I worked from home today xD

NeNo

Anniflamma’s original Hera animatic was one of the things that got me into the fandom originally, I love that Anni was able to put a new spin on it!!!

CyberCrow

I don’t think Zeus will get the best father of the year award No Athena dosent die in the Odyssey and tbh the whole “God Games” arent in the Odyssey Regarding EPIC tho Calypso sayed “Last i checked godsses cant die” so i don’t think shes dead but EPIC the musical has strayed from Odyssey before so we never know

Leonidas

what I loved about this animation, it kinda matches what tyre said in the god of war games. that for gods of war, they speak through battle, fighting keeps their bodies occupied, while their minds do the rest. also classic siblings of punching each other over talking

Halfknight

Trust me, when Athena died (I think she died), I bawled. I'm still hugging my owl plushie mentally breaking. If you need a hug, I'm here with open arms
