I love how all of the characters start off as common archetypes but the writers just approach them in the most insane way possible. They could’ve established Ocean as a self-centered over achiever without her motivation be rebelling against her leftist stoner parents by embracing capitalism after discovering Up With People. They could’ve established Noel as having never been able to live his truth as a gay man in a small town without having him sing a song about his OC inspired by nihilistic French New Wave Cinema. And Ricky… oh boy you’re in for a wild ride with Ricky. You’ve seen nothing yet. This show is just so extra and I respect it so much.
