SPIES ARE FOREVER | Act 2, Parts 5-7 (FINALE!!)

Comments

I had never even heard of this show, despite being a Starkid fan dating back to the AVPM days- thank you for the joy of watching with you, Mortius! I would watch again but ffwd the mustache parts. Plus it has Lydia from Lizzie Bennett Diaries!! 💗💗💗

Elizabeth Deprey

This is missing in the spies are forever collection :)

Fitator Quatschfeder

I feel you man. I cried so much when I watched this for the first time. You held it in better than me. Plus Owens reprise was beautiful

FakeCheeseAndPineapple

This is such a fun show! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Can't wait to see you react to Trail to Oregon and Starship! And more Hatchetfield, of course.

erin bulmer

"Is there a sequel to this show?" Oh Mortius, you didn't have to hurt us like that 🥲

Lex Villagrán

Also Susan eating the live grenade is such a hilarious idea, god I wish that actually happened

Lindsey

Huh. If I had a nickel for every time Joey was playing a villain with an accent and slicked back hair and mentioned silicon in his evil song/monologue, I’d have two nickels. It’s not a lot, but it’s weird it happened twice.

Lindsey

When Joey starts softly singing on the stairs in act 2 part 6, my heart melts every time. Seeing your jaw dropped watching it was incredibly validating to me tbh. No analysis needed. I'm loving seeing you react to the musical itself

Sterling Klein

watching you search for part 2 almost made me cry... i want it so bad

dude

my favourite thing is how owen tells curt to move on after he's been spending 4 years plotting his revenge because curt abandoned him. like girl you're one to talk

bigbraveboop

your owen theories make me cackle every time and my #1 theory for every show moving forward is now "owen carvour (of spies are forever fame) is somehow alive and in this show", thank you

Rome

The gay spies always make up for the mustache man bits. I am fully able to forget about it because that’s not really an important part of the story. It was always about Curt finding love in friends and getting to be the man he’s supposed to be and letting go of his mistakes and Owen.

Mythical Mar

This show truly truly makes me so unwell. truly so unwell. Curtwen makes me MENTALLY ILL

Ratatosk Clarke

I love how petty and bitter owen is 💜

Ratatosk Clarke

There have been a lot of SAF stuff on their shorts lately… Might be getting too hopeful, but maybe?

Jennee

this is such a fun show, thanks for watching it. Curt Mega (who played Agent Curt Mega) is in more Hatchetfield stuff, you'll definitely see him more, as well as Joey Richter (Owen) and Lauren (Mama Mega). Oh and PLEASE do Black Friday before Nerdy Prudes. They also did two seasons of Nightmare Time over Zoom (because pandemic), it is SO good, easily the best writing of all of Hatchetfield, but the format is not everyone's cup of tea. It's between Black Friday and NPMD, and I definitely recommend it, even if you just watch it with your wife for fun.

TiaMattia2

I'm so glad you actually stuck around to hear the final song I was worried you were gonna miss it. Anyway what a legendary reaction, not just because you predicted the big twist frame one, but you honestly made me appreciate this show even better seeing just how much you liked it. And I do like that you took this break between the Hatchetfield shows, might be a good idea to do it like this again to not become overwhelmed by the Hatchetverse. See you for the Black Friday reaction and I hope you will check out Nightmare Time before Nerdy Prudes Must Die to best enjoy it.

KurtzyPan

Also as a fellow theater person trying to break into professional work atm i would be SO interested in hearing you talk more through your auditions/directing process!

Clementine Mesich

Stay! For! Bows!! As a stage manager had shows where the entire mood of the cast gets ruined by bowing to half the crowds back as they walk up the aisles (its also often the one place where crew/designers get acknowledged during productions so im extra sensitive to it)

Clementine Mesich

If I had a nickle for every time Mortius' favorite character got shot and killed by the Deadliest Man Alive, I'd have two nickles, which shouldn't be as surprising as it is.

Ellery Black

I genuinely still tear up during the scene on the stairs, it does not get easier no matter how often I watch it. Totally feel your reaction to it. Haha.

intrepiddragons

Question about the play you're directing. Is it an original play? And are you by any chance gonna upload any of it on YouTube?

Jay Gardos

It's done :') this is honestly my favorite starkid/TCB musical. The songs are catchy, it's funny but also takes itself seriously enough, the characters are really well done and subvert tropes brilliantly, but play into them when necessary, and Joey as Owen (and, of course, Sergio) gives me life. He's so good in the role and that last chase scene has SO MUCH EMOTIONAL IMPACT! Thank you so much for watching the show, it's been a ride. I'm about to go re-watch the reactions again. See you on Black Friday!

Jay Gardos

What a wonderful gift upload to welcome me home from work! Huzzah! Now let's get upset because another series is ending that I wish we could ride the wave of for much longer. :P I'm looking at you, Legally Blonde.

Kory Misun

This musical always makes me cry. Thank you for watching it and letting me reexperience it for the first time with you

Veronika

I will also just add that The Solve It Squad Returns is a really funny show by Tin Can Bros that I feel like gets pushed aside a bit in favour of SAF and recommend watching at some point :D

Sami Shhh

This is one of those shows that I can never quite bring myself to rewatch as often as other Starkid and Tin Can Bros shows because that ending with Owen always destroys me emotionally. The part where Curt shoots the gun out of his hand faked me out the first time I watched too and I thought perhaps there was a chance of redemption for Owen and I had the exact same reaction you did when it panned out the way it did.

Sami Shhh

Now that you've seen SAF, please consider reacting to Sh*tty Broadway sometime, a show of parody or funny Broadway songs done by Starkid-adjacent people, especially 'Agony' by Joey and Curt, 'The Confrontation' (from Jekyll Hyde) by Joey and 'Waving through a window' by Lauren. All of these are amazing and it'd be awesome to see your reaction to them😄

R

I know Angela and Lauren were, I’m not sure who else

Lindsey

The announcement for Spies Are Forever 2 wasn't meant to be a joke! Unfortunately, for some reason or another, it never got off the ground :(

KarmaGlitch

100% it also reads to me as “I liked you better when you were the good man who loved me and what we did that I thought you were”

Mafidon

When you start Black Friday, something you might notice is that during the recorded performance, some of the cast was sick. I don't remember who though.

Makayla

A line that always gets me in One Step Ahead is Curt: "I liked you better when you were dead" I always translated it to "I liked you better when I only had myself to blame for my sorrow" because really, in those 4 years Owen could have reached out to Curt one way or another. Instead he chooses to chase down the path of revenge despite knowing how much grief and guilt Curt was bearing. ("I probably spent as much time hating you as you did.") Now, how much of that hatred is from indoctrination is a different question

Averie-in-reverie

I love hearing you get excited about certain things that they did in this show like with sets or choreography or something cool in the music cause it makes me think of certain moments in other StarKid shows where they go even harder and I'm excited for you to get there.

Makayla

Also! The order Curt meets with people in this ending as he "exits" the field (Cynthia, Barb, Tatiana) parallels act one when he's reentering the field (if you use Curt and Tatiana's first proper meeting in the casino)

S.E.W.

35:40 not sure if you caught this while being (very understandably) caught up in the moment but as Tatiana is crying about her and her family finally being free, Curt starts to tell her about the rest of the network, hesitates, and chooses not to. Plenty of people debate whether or not that was the right thing for him to do, but either way it's a really interesting moment I adore

S.E.W.

You caught the Spy Again instrumental leading up to Curt's final solo, but I think you missed the instrumentals during each of the characters' final scene with Curt! When he speaks with Cynthia, the instrumental for Eyes on the Prize is playing in the background. With Barb, Pay Attention (or Barb's Lament, both fit here) is playing, and during Tatiana and Curt's last scene, Doing This is playing. Then, of course, the Spy Again instrumental plays during Curt's monologue and then leads into Spy Again (Reprise). I love how often this show brings back the themes they set up!

oh no elizabeth

One step ahead is another of my favourite songs from this musical. Such a great chase song and like you said some great stage work! When they transition to that motorcycle chase not only do they bring in the chairs but did you notice the lighting changes to almost simulate street lights? :D Yeah, kinda hurt a bit when you were so relieved that the shot hit the gun only to moments later have your heart broken when Owen's life is ended. </3 Still, all in all a great show. I HOPE there's a spies are forever 2. Guess we'll have to wait and see! In the meantime we have Starkid's musicals to keep us entertained too!

White Tiger

no sequel currently, but tin can Bros have been posting a lot of SAF content recently so we're all just like 👀👀👀

Chris

It's A Musical! It's About Spies! Glad you had fun! I agree that the staging in this show is phenomenal. They're used to working with a minimal set, but I think this show goes above and beyond since it's attempting to emulate movies, specifically James Bond films. They really play with the space instead of treating it like a stage with restrictions. Sorry you really hated the Baron's stuff, but glad it didn't ruin the experience for you. There isn't currently a sequel. The odds of them doing one would be incredibly low, since they've gotten into the Hatchetfieldverse and they want to do more fairytale stuff with the in universe theater troop of Cinderella's Castle.

Allison Watts

Your relief at it being the gun he shot, only for seconds later get stabbed in the heart was like watching my first time watching it from the outside. I think I visibly flinch every time.

Mikayla Prushik

I truly adore this musical, even if it makes me really sad too lol. And there are at least 3 Sound of Music references, one with Von Mustache, one before Prisoner of My Past and then that last one in One Step Ahead. Thank you for the reaction!

Nick Simswods

Currently the Spies are forever 2 is a joke, but we live in hope!

Lynn Ashmore

Owen's reprise of spies are forever always hits so hard. I'm glad you got hit just as hard with it

Chris

So... Good news, you got your confirmed gay spies. Bad news... You got it for exactly 17 seconds.

MissDisneyChick

As it turns out, Owen is gay AND European! He's also not actually dea- *gunshot* Welp. Schwoopsie!

Averie-in-reverie

Maybe the real Spies were the friends we made Forever
