HAZBIN HOTEL Season 2 Episode 5 & 6

Comments

Is no one gonna talk about how absolutely wild it is that VOX DEI includes the word “furor”?

Prophet

"I'm shouting from my hallway! To really show you I am leaving!" love that part

Fenix

Some think the angel that was shown in Vaggis flashbacks was her sister

Fenix

I think my favourite part of watching Mortius is when he gets super excited about something and does his lil spin. I just smile every time <3

Paw-Paw

I consider "Easy" to be the best song in the show, no contest (maybe recency bias, but I don't think so). Semi-related, I really wish Lucifer had a full song of playing up his bluff, because that part was awesome, but I hate how the Vox part makes me feel. Unrelated, TIL chipotle is a pepper and not just a restaurant in America.

Kiro LV

So not so fun fact the contact above Lucifer's at the end is the welsh spirit of death. And everyone else on the list in that scene is dead other than Lucifer which might imply he might get really hurt next episode

Offline

love how they had the double meaning of 'dancing in the sheets' in Easy song

IceWolf92 (Olive)

Okay, I don’t see anyone having said it outright so, the Sinners in question during “Bad With Us” are all the other Overlords from the meeting with Carmilla and Velvette in Season 1.

Aqua Allison

Vox Populi literally means The Voice of the People

Marcia

Vox calling Lucifer Lu was also an indicator, as this is what Lucifer said V should call him

Fenix

Spies are forever reference? Yeah. I caught that. ;3

White Tiger

Still convinced that Vox was some kind of televangelist in life with the “movement/cult” thing

King Clownbot

I think a lot of those characters we're seeing at the beginning of episode 5 are the overlords from season 1 of Hazbin Hotel.

White Tiger

At the end of 6 Vox says "we have our power source." And from what we saw carmilla is building some kind of cage. My theory is that Vox is gonna trap lucifer and when Lu tries to break out Vox is gonna use that power as an attack. It would be an angelic attack and carmilla was using angelic steel to build it so the cage would hold Lu. Just a theory

Queen Nyx

same lol

Phoenix Mackenzie

Mortius: "Imagine that in your childhood, growing up, you were *obsessed* with mustard." Me: "This is the chipotle rant isn't it" /lh

Felicity McDonald

Also I would have been a lot more fascinated if they went the route of “lets try to convince hell that I actually could be a God” vs “lets trumpism my way into becoming ‘king’ of hell” because the first one feels like it fits 1. his cult leader past and 2. the fantastical nature that is hazbin’s world.

Ratatosk Clarke

I have to say, I was a little disappointed by this episode. Even though Vox is definitely doing this for his own gain, throwing all the nazi references and casual racism into his songs felt honestly very forced and truly did not make much sense. He IS starting an uprising so he can gain from it, but the uprising itself is the result of a genocide, and painting that as equivalent to real life nazism and manifest destiny shit feels very… off. I love him being an actual villain, the power and cruelty is fascinating, but I feel like if Vivzie is going to put allusions to real life genocides and facism that we are actually currently experiencing, it needs to be done in a way that thematically makes sense. Comparing hell fighting back against heaven to nazi germany really does not fit the themes that have been established last season and in the first four episodes of this season (in terms of hey, maybe heaven was wrong to exterminate hell and they owe hell a lot more than an apology).

Ratatosk Clarke

The overlords in the first song are from the meeting that Vee crashed where they find out angels can be killed. The one where Carmella kicks everyone out after Vee asking if she had a disclosure.

Mimi

I’m not trusting anything out of Vox’s mouth on principle so I’m with Charlie on the Lilith thing. Also what’s Baxter and Nifty’s ship name? They are perfect for each other Edit: I’m pretty sure the casino Husk is in is the one he had as an overlord, it’s themed around him. Also I’m seeing a theme of gambling addicted sinners having cards in their designs. Freaking love Keith David’s singing in this

Indigo

I was fully ready for him to go “PSYCH! It wasn’t an analogy! This was about mustard all along! Because that’s what mustard was for me lmao.”

Ink Inc

While Zeezi and the other overlords aren’t from Helluva Boss, Mammon’s bribe and the other gifts are from the other 6 sins from Helluva Boss. The deal to have Helluva Boss come to Prime (making it possible to have crossovers) was only announced to us about 6 months ago, so I suspect that none of the Helluva Boss characters are going to show up this season (unless they do something in the final 2 episodes)

Mittens Zora

my take away from the ad rants: 1) mustard does not sound like a real word anymore now 2) I wasn't aware chipotle was anything other than a name, much less a type of pepper. Ya learn something new every day I guess lmao

Chris Cipher

1:34:35 on the HBH Ep6 reaction.... Got me thinking of the "Scary" Movie NUN!

Kr1s

I very much resent how much i giggled at this. >.>

CalvinTheCat

I think that is what Lucifer is for. They know that. But Lucifer is an angel, fallen yes but an angel nonetheless.

CalvinTheCat

since there will be cross overs i hope Mortius gets to catch up soon. All the little hints already being dropped are fun

CalvinTheCat

Well, I liked the Spies are Forever ref :) The third episode really is so tightly written. Every V.A. is doing a stellar job, to be clear, (Keith David and Blake Roman in the second episode especially,) but man, Christian Borle’s back must be breaking from carrying this season. I’ve been a fan since Legally Blonde so I’m not surprised, but the range on this man is stunning, and this season really hinges on Vox being as incredibly well-acted he is. Also the animation??? Like yeah, all the wild tracking shots and spinning cameras and the insane ending to Vox DEI, but even just the character acting is so, so good. The animators and boarders have been putting their whole hearts and souls into it this season and it really, really shows. I feel like the only thing that would have made it tighter in ep three is if they did mention Pentious being redeemed and the crowd essentially went “why would we want to rub elbows with the people who’ve exterminated us?” Because, like the “you’re apologizing for genocide with gift baskets” thing, Vox may be using this all for his own awful means but there is a point at the core of this all that even Sera kept saying, which is “why should they ever want to forgive them, why should they want to live amongst angels anyway?” Carmilla and Vaggie obviously touch upon it, but it would have been cool to see that from the general populace, yanno? Also totally a nitpick but while the ending twist was an absolutely brutal gut punch that recontextualizes everything in such a chilling way, especially after how wonderful Losing Streak and the convo after was, I just keep going “then why did Vees hire Pentious to spy on the hotel season one of Angel was already under their hypnosis? That was the whole reason he joined the hotel.” I’m happy for any explanation they give, tbh, I just wish there was one. But hey, two episodes left, they may mention it, and it doesn’t really take away from how nauseating that was unless you’re a pedant like me. Despite the nitpicks, though, great episodes! Also yes the steam announcement!!! I already have a deck so I probably won’t pick it up, at least not for a while, but it looks like such a cool console, I’m so psyched that it just exists in general.

Hannah Williams

Never been to a Chipotle (not sure there are many in western europe) but i fully support this rant. I think?

CalvinTheCat

I just need you to know that in the german dub, Vox called Val speaking spanish "Taco language". Also i personally laughed so hard when Val hit him with the "I'm from fucking Florida" But man Hazbin is brilliant and writing Villains. They make you feel for them and underestimate them only to turn around and slap you in the face. Also did you notice that Val was upset about Angel being used like this by Vox? Its really fascinating that he has no problem abusing Angel but this is something he dislikes

CalvinTheCat

I am a member of the 5% and I did in fact enjoy that reference

Megan Smith

All of the gifts on Lucifer's bed seem to be gifts from the other Deadly Sins, the rulers of the other rings of Hell, in Helluva Boss! And you can see their silhouettes in the pictures on Lucifer's wall! They collectively govern the Hellborn folks with this whole court thing, and Lucifer, despite being their leader, has not attended in a REALLY long time.

Paradoxgavel

Do you wanna know what’s really funny to me, even after these last batch of episodes, I still can’t fully take box as a serious threat against heaven because we’ve already established that you sinners cannot get up to heaven, unless you are either redeemed or an angel comes down via a portal. So, maybe I’m too much of a realist who loves this show, but literally the angels don’t have to do jack. They could just stay in heaven and let the sinners just run around honestly. Even Val asked how they were supposed to get to heaven and Vox didn’t even answer him so like is this really a threat? Even after the last episode, it didn’t even feel like this was much of a threat because you still have no guarantee that you can get to heaven. That’s also low-key why I find his colt background to be so good and very interesting because there’s a reason why still exist even today, because they’re effective even if the court leader is literally spewing nonsense

Jay

I love the great quacksby reference with Jeremy Jordan haha

Akra Kat

If Vel was also an awful person with the other two then I'd love for her an Al to be chaotic no fricks given besties🤣

Phoenix Mackenzie

Yes. I very much want to know why snek boy can't go visit hell.

NoBody

Yea vox is literally using the name of someone that can't contradict him that the other sinners look up to to prop himself higher...

Phoenix Mackenzie

Zeezi and Maestro were at the Overlord meeting in Season 1, when we first met Carmilla and Zestial! Vox is getting some heavy hitters for his movement. Also, you'll have context for the name Mammon and a bunch of the silhouetted portraits in Lucifer's room (and contacts on Charlie's phone) when you watch Helluva Boss. :)

Artist Deco

Vox Populii into Vox Dei (voice of the people/voice of god) are some of the best lyricism in Hazbin. I love the homonym of furor/Fuhrer, they're not pulling punches by making Vox the awful awful AWFUL person he is.

Louise Rigg

The Prime Video youtube channel posts all of the songs; it might be worth putting links to them in the descriptions of the videos to make it easier for the audience to follow along with the analysis.

Dana Starling

Especially combining the name vox populi with vox Dei 👀

Phoenix Mackenzie

They've said HB is on the plans, during a hazbin vid

Phoenix Mackenzie

Also, not a joke but another piece of foreshadowing: angel missing therapy because he's "had a headache" then E6 the reveal of vox making him an unwilling spy...

Phoenix Mackenzie

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Phoenix Mackenzie

Vox singing to the tune of Lucifer's part from Vox Populi in Vox Dei was genius

Addy0302

You could say it's going to... hell in a gift basket?

SpamtheTree34

I'm sorry but angel dust singing in drag made me question my own sexuality 😳😳😳

Leilani Tuala

Obsessed by the implication that Velvette brought Alastor into the dressing room to hang with her & Val— Al is FOR SURE talking smack to drive that wedge further between the Vees. Vox can’t be the most powerful with a team shenanigans fr

Ky

GOD I LOVE IT WHEN SILLY JOKES ARE ACTUALLY FORESHADOWING Remember in the flashback Vox imitated Alastor....gahhhhhhh I can't wait for next week

איתי קורן

That’s 2 spies are forever accidental references in this season (first is the beginning of don’t you forget sounding like We Love The Prince)

Ink Inc

The dinosaur lookin girl isn’t from Helluva! however there’s a good few references to it in Lucifer’s room. I’d love to see you react to Helluva Boss but idk if that’s in the cards or not, I’m admittedly very in and out as a patron and am not in the discord or anything

SleepyEliArt

I saw someone point out on twitter that the first hypnotizing scene looks like it’s likely from Poison (since Angel is wearing the exact same robe and has drool on his face), and that’s why they showed Vox shaking Valentino’s hand near the end of the song when Angel’s singing “I’m filling up my glass but it’s always hollow”🥺💔

tsukihimeyfan

GOOD point!

Mortius

A giant sign pointing to Husk that says winner? The same thing they call souls in heaven? Husk accidental redemption after saving Angel?

Megan Herbst

Me too lol out loud going "oh NO" 😬

Dylan Mancy

Don't worry I also became Curt Mega for a few minutes there too

Jem Carstairs

My absolute favorite set of episodes this season but also ouch. Never felt like I lost while being given what I wanted until today.

Tamlin Day

Mortius after Ep5: That was... so much. Me: *looks at Ep6 and sweats profusely* Oh boyyyyyy...

Hayley Miller

"IM SHOUTING FROM MY HALLWAY" meeee too. Episode 6 h u r t. It was so so good. Episode 5 was very well written too of course but oh BOY did episode 6 hurt even more. Poor Angel Dust I just please please be ok.

Sleepy.novatea

After a rocky midseason what an absolute banger set of two eps, two of the best in the show

Myeh

Vox Populi might genuinely be my favorite song this season. This song is exactly what I wanted from a Vox villain song. Having him commandeer Lucifer’s song, and turn it into a Propaganda message to his audience was so good! Also, Vox Populi literally means “The voice of the people”! Then when Vox Dei starts, it’s exclusively a reprise of Lucifer’s King of Hell solo, but with Vox in the center! It’s just so peak! Episode 5 is so peak!

Star

It'll be something they'll work on together. They're a team. I was sobbing like a baby at that part omg

River Roth

The "I'm from fucking Florida!" joke gets me EVERY time it's just so perfect. Val IS Florida Man

Kalyn Hanixman

Minor things I appreciate about the Chaggie stuff this episode. Like, yes there's still some petty stuff happening, but Charlie immediately gets Carmilla's attention off Vaggie when she sees Vaggie is triggered by Carmilla's words. While Charlie is still trying to hold onto her frustration, she does finally seem to realize that she's being the jerk here after that scene. And then of course I love when Vaggie tries to brush it all aside ("Its okay I still love you") Charlie flat out says that no, it's actually not okay that Charlie's been doing this. Which side note: Vaggie I know you love Charlie but your self esteem needs so much work honey.

BGTitan

I do appreciate that this show has the courage to, however hamfistedly, show the dangers of populism and propping up a charismatic despot who unites under fear with the promise of punishing a perceived enemy. It's particularly prescient at this time in the world, and it's good for the generation that's coming into the voting age to have entertainment media that might make them consider politics beyond a surface level

G_Rez

Also something to notice when Vox is talking to the crowd and getting them further riled up, you can see his eye doing his hypnotic thing. So hes not just charming them, he's essentially brainwashing them.

Trash Goblin

Oof. Yeah, Gambling and substances are things I too have to be careful with (family history) . I feel like that tension of the thrill of a possible win floods the dopamine in my ADHD brain. I do have safe outlets like virtual gambling that has no stakes beyond a ranked ladder and TTRPGs for that.

BronzeDionysus

18:17 This is a reference to someone in Helluva Boss. 56:25 Vox is once again bending the truth when talking about Lillith. Charlie says in Season 1 that she used her song to empower sinners so they could be stable/strong IN HELL, not to the point of rebelling against Heaven.

Jt Scott

So the ones Vox is singing and recruiting are all overlords, we saw them for a bit at the last overlord meeting in season one before Velvette and Carmilla had their song.

Trash Goblin

I call my cat bear-bear, you talking to your dog threw me off so bad

Masochismet

I am enjoying the patron intro today. Technology not cooperating and bad hair days are what make us human. Really looking forward to your episode 6 song reactions

G_Rez

I definitely havent been refreshing for the last two hours waiting for this, no clue what you're talking about

Masochismet

ITS TIIIMMMEEE oh dear lord I'm scared
