I still have yet to see anyone notice but they made Oma and Shu both women in the story and illustrations. It was really subtle so I think it went over most people’s heads but when telling the story he refers to both of them as she

The flashbacks were definitely the best parts! 😭 I tear up every time I see it. I'm not sure how I feel about Aang not running away. I'm not entirely against the change, although I do miss the goofy kid who doesn't want the responsibility. That was a significant trait he had at the beginning, which made his character growth more rewarding when he finally steps up to the plate.

The Leaves from the Vines rendition got us in our feels! 😭 That makes sense, no one knows his true motives. Although it's a little overwhelming for us as a viewer seeing him not defend himself and being constantly attacked.

The music director was dirty for fully weaponizing Leaves from the Vine this episode! Personally, the added Azula, Iroh, and Zuko content makes up for any misgivings else where in the show imo. In defense of the “you ran away” comments from characters in the show, IIRC technically only we as the audience and Aang know he was just out for the night to clear his head. Aang hasn’t actually told anyone why he just happened to take Appa for a ride the night the fire nation attacked. It seems they’re making the choice to have Aang not defend himself out of shame, grief, and/or survivor’s guilt for what happened.

I can’t wait for them to see the finale. So freaking good! I remember seeing Bumi in trailers and thought he looked really bad but honestly the show he looks pretty great! The writing is what needs the most help unfortunately. I just want to see improvement for next time, so I hope they take critiques seriously.

I think this was my least favorite episode of the season, but it had one of my favorite moments (the flashback to Lu Ten’s funeral). That was one of my top two favorite changes/additions to this show, while Bumi’s portrayal—the writing, not the acting—was by far my least favorite. I’m also a bit confused about why they put The Cave of Two Lovers in season 1. Maybe it’s just the childhood Kataang shipper in me, but I didn’t like most of what they did with it (although the subtle change of making both Oma and Shu women was a cool touch).

Ahhh iroh and zukos flashbacks!! Favorite part of this episode. Leaves from the Vine seems to be Zuko and irohs theme in this ep which I think is so beautiful. The ambience in this is VERY avatar and I love it. Something that keeps bothering me, though, is that characters keep saying either that aang ran away / is avoiding his duties like kyoshi said. This doesn’t really line up anymore because aang doesn’t run away like meesh says, and he’s not really avoiding his duties anymore bc he’s more focused on saving the world in this adaptation. They changed aangs character and story a bit (which I don’t mind), but the dialogue isn’t being consistent to accommodate for these changes? In short, the dialogue would work for OG aang, but Netflix aang it makes less sense
