Didn't notice the frogs! Thanks for pointing that out! They really packed a lot into this episode. We definitely need to watch it again soon. I think it's super fun that they are able to merge episodes together like the Omashu episode. But I felt like they could have elaborated on parts where we wanted to see more, like Koh/Kuruk's story. But I do like the references they bring up as well. It's really nice that they're paying attention to details. Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts! <3

@Bryan Spoles: Sometimes they seem to have to change the story to add to the drama, but somehow they need to bring it back around to keep on the original story's path. So they brought a couple of episodes together, and took the essence of them - Wan Shi Tong from the library, the fog of lost souls, and this would also be Sokka and Katara being sick and needing the frogs (I think that's why Sokka noticed the frogs, to keep the reference in there.) Considering that they needed to change the stories and merge episodes together (there are only 8 1-hour episodes per season, vs about 20 25-minute episodes of the original series), I think they're doing a GREAT job keeping the essence of the original, while adding bits of new storyline and showing us things that we never got to see (Suki's mom, actually SHOWING the Airbender genocide, etc.) They're trimming out some of the non-essential / filler parts of episodes, while still referencing them (in this episode alone, they mentioned the pirates, as well as the Canyon Crawler episode, which didn't really have much effect on the original story.) And something I heard someone say a long time ago about another series: "Just because they don't show it on screen, doesn't mean it didn't happen." I don't think Katara's as animated as she was in the original, but it's really a slightly different story too - for what she's doing, I don't think she's doing a bad job at all. Here's a Youtube video I found yesterday, with a Youtuber getting to interview Kiawentiio on being Katara: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvTp2xpCkYU (Check out his channel - he also did a nice interview with Yvonne Chapman as Avatar Kiyoshi, and some other actors in the series.) Love watching the series with you and getting to see your reactions, very cool :) Sorry! Accidently deleted your comment. Still getting used to Patreon.

I agree 100%!! Changes Hakoda so much :( Definitely not feeling that change. We actually just talked about how we liked the contrast between Hakoda & Ozai as fathers in our next video. Thanks for watching with us! :) -M

A YouTube reactor—Billy Binges—just uploaded his reaction to episodes 1-3 and he’s never seen the cartoon, so yeah, I’ll be really interested to see his reaction to this episode. I also got my parents to start this series, because I know there’s a very slim chance I could ever get them to watch the cartoon, but it’ll probably be awhile before they get to this episode since they’re going out of town soon.

I really wish Sokka’s dad was more supportive and believed in sokka. It’s a weird change for his dad to not think hes cut out to be a warrior. I like that in the original, sokkas dad always contrasted with how horrible of a father ozai was. The fact that sokka even passed the ice dodging even though he apparently did so bad is kind of a strange choice. But i think kataras actress was a lot better here! I liked the cohesive fighting. It made them look like a team and it felt like a genuine team avatar moment.

Yeah thats true. I guess the forrest could’ve just had the same powers as that the swamp if they really wanted to mesh the two stories together. It could’ve fit better. It just feels like they keep stepping into holes that is very avoidable in order to not be too much like the original. But they ultimately have to change how some lore even works.

I feel like there's so much lore that stems from other ATLA Books and another show I won't spoil, that it's too overwhelming for both fans of the Avatar universe as well as newcomers to the world to truly be able to appreciate. I don't understand why they couldn't just get lost in the swamp and have those same flashbacks while Aang encountered a dark spirit. Idk def my least favorite episode.
