Arcane 1x5 "Everyone Wants To Be My Enemy" | Reaction & Review (UNCUT)

Comments

Yep! Itโ€™s been awhile since Iโ€™ve watched Arcane or a reaction, and I had to get in the right headspace for it (I have to do that with any dark/heavy show, even the ones I love like this one), so I just recently watched your first four reactions on YouTube, but I couldnโ€™t wait for this episodeโ€™s reaction!

Jenny D

Very interesting! didn't notice until someone pointed this out. Also didn't know you're watching Arcane with us too! Nice ๐Ÿ˜Š

Meesh and Dee

The tattoo under Viโ€™s eye is interesting. Itโ€™s her name and itโ€™s Roman numerals, VI. Her inmate number is also a play on this. 5 (V) 1 (I) 6 (VI).

Jenny D

"she's daddy" lmao facts. Also on my first watch I really thought Viktor and Jace were going to be together.

Battlebug

Ok, Iโ€™ve been patiently waiting for 4 weeks for you two to watch this episode. I subscribed to your YouTube channel the moment you two went off on the cupcake comments. Awesome work as always!

Boredmarinerd

Damn, this took me a while to read. I agree with everything. Very detailed. Kudos.

Hi there, thanx for another great reaction. ๐Ÿ˜Š Yes, the next one turnes everything up a notch. But then again, this goes for every episode since episode 3. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Every time you think they reached the ceiling in terms of storytelling, they just lift the roof up a little more. ๐Ÿคฉ I'm glad you like Caitlyn, because she is my favorite character. ๐Ÿ˜ The Flashback to teenage Caitlyn shows her sheltered and posh upbringing. She is so eager to win the trophy, because her parents denied her every opportunity to reach whatever goals she has on her own. For her it is totally believable that they paid the Sheriff of Piltover to Iet her daughter win in a shooting contest. Her parents want to give her the best life possible (as every loving parent) and don't see how they're putting her in a golden cage. I love the fact that she chose Grayson for her role model and I love the lesson, Grayson (imo) taught her: There are far more important things to aim for than some trophy. Your self-worth doesn't come from the number of trophys you won, but how you use the talents that you're given and so it doesn't matter if she let her win or not, she is an excellent shot. Now it is on her to decide, what she wants to so with this talent. Marcus indeed put Vi in jail. He didn't want to kill her, but wanted her off the streets, so he put her in jail and threw away the key, so to speak. Then he told Silco Vi would be dead. Which she was, kinda. ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ™ˆ Vi got beaten up on a regular basis for all these years. When her cell door opens and she hears the *tock*, *tock*, *tock* of the guards bat or pole or whatever it is, she fully expects to get beaten up, you see her rolling her right shoulder preparing for what she expects to happen. You can see her surprise, when the noises of the guard disappear and just the young enforcer remains to take her with her. I love the instant chemistry between Vi and Caitlyn! It starts at their first encounter in the prison. You can see Vis surprise when the noises of the guard disappear and just the young enforcer remains to take Vi with her. You can hear the music change in this moment from dark foreboding to a lighter, more positive mood, when she sees Caitlyn for the first time without any bars between them. And Caitlyns look lingers on Vi for several seconds, too. In the brothel it becomes quiet obvious, especially when the leaving Vi sees how comfortable Caitlyn around women is. And at the end of the epsiode they're downright flirting with each other. Despite the differences in their upbringings, they're very similar at heart and complete each other. I love love love their chemistry. ๐Ÿ’– Caitlyns awkward Mathilda-monologue was the most adorable and funny moment in the show so far. ๐Ÿ˜‚ I love how Caitlyn crosses lines all the time: Figuratively when she talks to Jayce even though her parents forbade her to do so, when she investigates the attack at the hexgate even though she was on duty to guard her mothers tent at the fair and when she goes to Stillwater Hold Prison to investigate further even though she is not an enforcer anymore. Oh and when she forges Jayce signature and uses his position to get Vi out of prison. Literally she crosses a line when she crosses the red line to get closer to Vi's cell. I think you're spot on about Mel. Jayce is Mel's useful toy, her second vote in the council (the old councillor being the third) and her way to more power, wealth and - I guess ๐Ÿ˜… - great sex. The relationship of Viktor and Jayce works both ways. It is a mixture of Jayce not being able to see how much his best friend suffers (because he get's constantly distracted) and Viktor actively downplaying and hiding his true health condition. Even Sky, his and Jayces assistant (who is crushing hard on Viktor ๐Ÿ’–), has no idea how bad his condition really is. Marcus' relationship with SIlco is like the dark mirror image of the relationship of Vander and Grayson. Those two where on eye-level and respected and cared for each other, even when Grayson had the long end of the stick. Marcus on the other hand is simply SIlcos puppet, his useful idiot. He is trapped in a relationship he can't get out of, unless he is willing to put his daughter's or his own life in danger. He didn't sacrifice himself with the grenade, because then his daughter would be alone in the world. You saw in the picture on his desk, that his daughter painted, that mommy is up in heaven. ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ˜ญ His situation is of his own making, so I don't feel much pity for him, but I feel really sorry for his little daughter, who is completely innocent, but will suffer the most when her fathers decisions come crushing back on him. Fathers (fatherfigures) and their daughters is an ongoing theme in this show and it has no happy end for anyone envolved, as far as I can see. The fight between Sevika and Vi is easily one of the best fight scenes I ever saw in movies or tv shows, animated or live action. The animators must have studied lots of boxing and mma fights, because every little detail is so believable and real. Both of them fight according to their characters: Vi angry and impatient, Sevika more controlled and aware of her defense. Vi got the upper hand because years and years of pent up hate and anger wanted out. In the end, Vi looses because she revealed her weak point (Powder) to Sevika and she used it, because she is very good at adapting to situations. ๐Ÿค” Some details I noticed: - Caitlyn deliberately only shoots at Sevikas shimmer arm to destroy it and so to keep her from killing Vi, she doesn't kill if it's not necessary. You can see all three holes in the shoulder joint. - The new "Last Drop" has Silcos symbol, an eye, over the entrance. - Mel with open hair on her bed: *chefs kiss - When Vi starts her parcours down to the undercity, after running down the sloped pipe, you can see her look back up to Caitlyn and smile for a brief moment, when she sees that Caitlyn follows her. - When the guy with the red jacket starts to mess with Vi I literally thought: "Dude, look at her muscles and her confidence, don't mess with this woman!" ๐Ÿคฃ We see this guy again later during the Imagine Dragons cameo - he sits behind the drummer, clad only in his shirt, inhaling Shimmer and probably commiserating the loss of his jacket...๐Ÿ˜… - Imagine Dragons wasn't the only cameo in this episode. The violinist on stage is created after Ray Chen, the violinist who played the solo violin parts for the soundtrack of the show. This cameo was the "Thank You" of the creators of the show to him. ๐Ÿ˜Š And as always: can't wait for the next one! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

silverarrow06

Yes, but this time they took it a step further. Before it was just Jinx' grafitties, now they actively painted others symbols on the "evidence". ๐Ÿ™‚

silverarrow06

Sevika is highly underrated character imo. She has a clear agenda as well as the brain and the muscles. This brawl was epic. ๐Ÿคฉ

MasterOfPuppets

I love this detail and it gets glossed over so quickly since close up views of the grenade feel like they're on screen for half a second. Piltover's finest already had evidence of the 'Firelights' with the attack on the ship, the square and in the hexcore workshop, crime scenes all covered in Jinx's graffiti. What a genius way to frame someone else.

Rabbid Dawg

So when marcus chloroformed her to "save" her... Marcus still needed a culprit from the break in in the very first episode. But i guess he whiped her record just so he could keep her locked there forever secretly since Silco can't know that she's alive and very motivated to get back to powder/jinx

Mathies

Oh, my favorite topic -> details. The firelight grenade. It is so ridicolous and clever and audacious at the same time to just take one of Jinx' grenades and let her paint the symbols of the firelights all over it to show even the last dimwit that this must be a firelights grenade. This only works because the corrupt sheriff presents that "evidence" and the firelights can't reveal themselfs to debunk this nonsense. Silco is smart...๐Ÿค” God, I love this show...๐Ÿ˜

silverarrow06

Interesting point about Jinx' scene, I never looked at it from that angle, but it makes sense that Jinx' episodes tune out whenever she decides to confront her past...๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ™‚ The feeling of being "not quiet good enough" is the tragedy of Jinx' life...๐Ÿ™ˆ Sevika/Vi's knee...๐Ÿคฃ Yeah they have a special kind of relationship. Though to be fair, Sevika was blindsided by Vi and Vi still loses the fight, if not for cupcakes shooting skills. Sevika can adapt much quicker. And Sevika is still the only one who is on par with Vi in the infight...๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ™‚

silverarrow06

Thos is pure torture! Time zones are trash. ๐Ÿ˜ญDropping this just before I have to leave for work is so mean ...๐Ÿคฆ Well guess one could say thst I have sth to look up to the next 13 hours, but it doesn't feel like it for sure...๐Ÿ˜‚ Had no doubt this would be the thumbnail btw..๐Ÿค”

It makes me so happy to watch shows along with you guys after work lol

Been loving yalls reactions so far, and would also love to see you guys react to some of the league cinematics after watching arcane! The world and lore behind League of Legends has so many stories, Piltover and "The Undercity" are just 2 out of the 13 different regions that exist!

Alex

Once wasn't enough either, Sevika came back for seconds.

That thumbnail....someone give me a hankerchief ๐Ÿฅต What a romantic episode, with many characters getting real close to one another - Cait/Vi, Jayce/Mel, Viktor/Skye, Sevika/Vi's Knee, Marcus/Firelight grenade. The scene in the arcade with Jinx shadowboxing alongside Vi was edited and animated so cleanly imo, but the storytelling really caught me off guard. Jinx sees the Mylo plate and the most of her internal noise cuts out when she silently contemplates her past and the boxing machine. Sidenote: Jinx's scenes are dominated by a discordant violin and voices. Walking up to the boxing machine is one of the few scenes with Jinx where all of that fades out. I'm sure it's to elevate the moment, but I want to push that idea further. I'd like to think the show is telling us that Jinx was briefly at peace with herself in that scene remembering her time with the crew, before the incident. Jinx has always felt Vi's presence and it shows while she's playing the boxing game. Maybe it's in her to always emulate, but never quite match up to her sister though. Her failure to be just short of her sister's score is tragic. It's telling us that she's good, but maybe not 'good enough'.

Rabbid Dawg

For the record, a lot of reactors thought that girl was Vi, so don't even trip about that. Kind of the point with the misdirect too. But as you can see, the real Vi is muscle mommy.
