All four actors for the characters have said they portrayed it that way, as well as at least one of the writers. I think amongst the actors it was actually Olivia (adult Alicent) who has been most outspoken about it. In interviews for season 1 she said she portrayed Alicent as a lesbian, but like one that’s got a lot of internalized homophobia. Like if it was a modern day story she said Alicent would be a closeted gay conservative. Also she headcanoned that Alicent got in trouble with her mother because she found out that Alicent and Rhaenyra kissed.

2024-06-30 19:03:10 +0000 UTCThe little Korra and Asami moment was definitely my top favorite, but I actually think the Varrick part was also up there for me just because it reminded me the most of Ember Island Players. Like it went from a play to a mover. Plus the four way call between the villains gets me every time! Overall there’s definitely still a lot to like about this episode (Mako getting dunked on for being a fuckboy by his family and a spoiled prince is another good one), but most of it is kinda boring. Especially having Mako’s and Korra’s retellings back to back, when there’s so much overlap there. I think they should’ve either started or ended with Korra’s, although I get saving Varrick’s for last because it subverts the expectation of having the same story told for a third time only for it to be Varrick’s crack!fic version of the show.
