The Legend of Vox Machina 2x3 | Reaction & Review (UNCUT)

Wow, thank you for that. When I watched this episode for the first time I had definitely felt weird about it... that something horrible would happen and you are totally right about the lack of music. I really don't have word to type to express how I felt. I think I may have felt fear or maybe I was terrified..

I think what is brilliant about the episode and something I did not pick up on the first time I watched it, is during the tomb scenes there is no music. The build up to Vex being hit is complimented by no music. It heightens the creepiness of the show a million times. Totally brilliant production.

Wayne Nubile

Also, even though they had Revivify and in official D&D rules the spell works automatically, Matt Mercer like to raise the stakes. He makes the cast to roll a D20 to see if the spell works. In that moment they needed to roll a 10 or higher or Vex would not have come back. The roll was an 11. I'll never forget Laura Bailey (the voice of Vex) blurting out "I'm gonna throw-up." from the stress of that moment not knowing if her character would live or die.

Mark Leiter

Just to add one thing. Notice during this episode the distinct lack of music. Except during the fight sequence and even then its "muted". Because of this you watch the episode, and you notice that sometime is "off" but you can't quite put your finger on it. Then the tragic music comes full blast at the end to really hit home just how devastating that moment was. Really brilliant sound design.

Mark Leiter

Yeah, watching that on stream was a rollercoaster. And the series does such a good job of incorporating the twins' backstory into these episodes to really twist the knife of the moment. (Plus Laura and Liam are probably the best actors in the group and these scenes let them shine.)

lance reddick is thordak u probs already know now but hes been in a lot of stuff hes rlly great RIP

Ashton Reed

Sometimes you get bad rolls in the game and your character dies.

Also the episode title "The Sunken Tomb" was also used as the title of the actual play episode back in 2016. So when the episode list was released, I was like.. of course they do that for the 3rd ep, making people wait a week to see the aftermath (all 3 were released at once).

The whole table was in shock.

so, some bits of info: Vex, Vax, Keyleth, and Percy are Bi, Scanlan is Pan, I mention this because they changed Zahra & Kashaw around in the show. in the game, Kashaw was kind of an asshole, but with a bit of a crush flirting with keyleth, and Zahra liked Vox Machina, and even had some mutual flirtation with Vex, here, their vibes are much more like bitter Exes, with kashaw liking the group, and zahra not so much. and yeah, Vex's death here is a HUGE moment for pretty much any fan who watched the game, They specifically didn't have soundtrack for majority of the episode to up the ominousness, and also a LOT of the dialogue this episode is taken Directly from the game.

Grog is super happy about the beard because his species does not grow body hair.

I will never forget Laura's face when this happened. Pfff, chills.

'Why would the father hate them for being diluted when it's his fault they are?' I mean, just look at many many many real life examples...

Can’t wait to see this table to screen moment 👀

This death is one of those moments that are burned into every fans memory. They did a good job translating it to the show but it's even better acted at the table. Since they had guests at the table it went from an extra silly game to very serious very quickly. A lot of the guests have been cut out because of time but it's nice when they get to come back and voice characters they created. One of the recent items they received wasn't gifted, Vex (but really Laura) stole if from another guest.
