Reacting to Calamity could be a really good way to react to one of their streams without getting spoilers for LoVM episodes. Granted Mercer didn't DM it but it's still really good and only 4 episodes.

I know that entire Critter community would be ecstatic to see you watch such a beloved mini-series. It is widely lauded as *the* best of what D&D live-play shows such as Critical Role has to offer, and by god does it live up to the hype.

2024-10-12 07:24:32 +0000 UTCIf you want Zerxus back story I highly recommend EXU calamity. It's only 4 episodes roughly 4ish hours each. None of It is spoilers for the main show but definitely a fun dip into the live play. Travis (Grog), Marisha (Keyleth) , Sam (Scanlan). Are the only main cast involved but the other crew are fantastic including Luis Carazo, who voices and plays Zerxus.

And it doesn't even need that much. Just "go here if you want to see the backstory and understand why all the Critters went SQUEEEEEEE at the same time".

2024-10-11 12:37:25 +0000 UTCAll of this episode's story , with Pike and Zerxus Ilerez and their "card game" , that is all new for the show!!! it wasn't part of the original campaign ... and damn it so much better!!!! Loved it. Some clarification about what Zerxus's said about the gods... He was a human paladin living during "the calamity" which is this major catastrophic event in the history of Exandria (the world at which this story and all CR campaigns takes place, so he is probably like almost 1000 years old) , Like he said , when approached by The Lord of Torment (basically the god that rules over the hells, considered a betrayer god ) ,he made a deal to join his service in exchange for his family's life . He thought that over time he could "tame the heart" of the lord of hells but all that happed is that his husband & son eventually forgot about him ,moved on and died of old age while he lives forever in torment . so I believe he hates all the different gods in Exandria. That is why he said that "there is no difference between the gods above and below , they all lie! " and tried (and arguably succeeded) to instill doubt in pike's faith . as for what he said in the end to his demon servant ("We are his blood") , he wasn't referring to the lord of the hells but to someone you've already heard about in the first season ;) Love your Reactions!!! 😊
