There's nothing specific to watch before MN but you couldn't watch Calamity. It's a short arc stream so you could get a feel for the stream and how it works and no spoilers.

It does feel a *little* rushed, but I think we know now that they made this season before knowing if there'd be a season 4, so they wanted to wrap it up in case that was the end. It feels a bit like Korra in that sense, but I'm glad we get more and I still enjoyed it!

2024-10-26 14:12:35 +0000 UTCFrom a story-telling perspective, I think the challenge in fighting 5 dragons is how to make each fight feel unique. I think they've done a great job with that, and even though Raishan's battle felt very fast, I think the last batch of episodes served more as an epilogue to resolve the characters' internal conflicts following the epic climax of Thordak's fight. Also, it kind of follows gameplay that your first dragon will be very challenging, but after some level-ups and acquiring magical items, you start to frustrate your DM at how easily you stomp enemies lol. F: Scanlan. He's the most experienced, and even though I don't swing that way, he can give me some of that bardic inspiration. M: Vex. Waking up next to that bombshell every day? No brainer. K: Grog. Only because I love everyone and Grog would absolutely enjoy a fight to the death. It's unrelated to Critical Role, but if you are up for a D&D movie, Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is a really fun watch!

Also the Mighty Nein is set in the same world as Vox Machina yea, though a decent amount of time after Vox's story. I'd say going in blind is perfect, like others have said. We might all be going in mostly blind for the first season of it cause the cast have said we'll be starting from before the streams began, so getting into their origins more! Also! F: Vex absolutely M: Keyleth cause she's such an adorable dork I love her! K: Scanlan, I love him but I think he just took the longest to really connect with emotionally

2024-10-26 05:39:54 +0000 UTCRe: Going into the Mighty Nein series - there really isn't anything to watch prior to the start - Before they started that campaign they did release a silhoutte image of the characters and encourage fans to guess who was playing what silhoutte and guessing race/class/player combos. They do have an origins comic series released for all the M9 characters but those contain spoilers so don't recommend them.

K: Scanlan, only because he's the only character I didn't initially connect with when I watched the live game for the first time. He grew on me over time a LOT and he's much more likeable in the show, but at first I really disliked him until about this point in the campaign.

Imma be keeping up with the content [also good call on Korra's voice in the previous episode] ❤️ also, the m9, started fresh on a twitch stream as level 1 characters, so you will be joining at the perfect time to fall in love with the m9 characters.

2024-10-26 00:29:04 +0000 UTCTo answer some of your questions in the end of the finale reaction (no spoilers): • As you know, the general story/arc of the show closely follows the plot of the first critical role DnD campaign, (the general major plot points are identical). There are changes here and there (some more refined in the show and some more refined in the campaign). All of CR DnD campaigns are literally hundreds of hours of watch time, so they must distill/adapt the most important parts to a tv show format…. for the most part I think they do an excellent job 😊 • If you’ve felt that the rhythm/pacing of this season (and especially the last 3 episodes) was weird (I felt it too), I think it’s because they didn’t know if the show will be renewed for another season, so they wanted to not leave too much of the story unfinished , in case they didn’t get renewed ,but that just my personal speculation. • Regarding Pike’s arc this season, all of the Zerxus’s stuff and her “blood magic” and taking a step back from the Ever-Light , it wasn’t in the campaign at all …so all new for the show , and it’s much better (imo) !!! , all of that to say that even the oldest critter couldn’t answer your questions on that subject , its new for everyone ! • Regarding Vax & the Matron, her dominion as a goddess is death and fate. Altering the fate/death of someone is against her wishes, extremely so. Last season, Vax agreed to become her champion and serve her since she spared Vex’s life, so him demanding she’ll show him how to bring Percy back is very much against what she stands for and what he himself agreed to serve. That why she warns Vax that bringing Percy back will come at a cost and she definitely won't let that slide... (anymore than that and we'll be delving into spoiler territory ;) • The Mighty Nein is the second campaign of CR (also hundreds of hours to watch) and the show (just like the campaign) will take place in the same world as Vox Machina (called "Exandria") . different characters played by the same lovely cast , The story will begin a couple of decades after the events of Vox Machina , and from what I understand , it might begin with the Mighty Nein origin story (that didn't appear entirely on the campaign it self) • As for choosing favorites and F-M-K , I can’t and you shan’t make me 😉 , I just love them all so much…. Sorry for the long essay😅 , and love your Reactions!!! You guys are Awesome.

The cast have indicated they would've made different decisions if season 4 was guaranteed, but I think it still worked well overall. Hopefully they can convince Amazon to toss in season 5 as well, because I'm pretty sure Sam Riegel has mentioned they envisioned 5 seasons would be the perfect amount to tell the Vox Machina story. And yes, Mighty Nein takes place... 20 years after Vox Machina? Something like that. But MN takes place on a different continent than the home base of VM. The fans are pretty confident one of those wizards from Ripley's flashback is an important bad dude in the MN story.

Which is crazy cause they announced season 4 this week!!! I'd love to give a little break down of the new characters coming in Mighty Nien without giving away story points just character names, class and vague character bios

2024-10-25 20:10:11 +0000 UTCThe Scanlan events in these last 3 episodes are a *hard* deviation from the events that played out at the table. After watching these episodes, i must say they were well executed and work for the narrative of the show But i have to express disappointment we wont see the events of the table put on the screen. The biggest factor is the presence of Pike by Scanlan’s side on screen. She kept him positive. At the table, due to Ashley’s schedule, Pike was not present and events played out differently I sincerely say that Critical Role Campaign 1, Episode 85, A Bard’s Lament, is my favorite episode of the campaign. Other than watching the 4 episode “Calamity” miniseries, i cant recommend more highly that you check out the back half of that episode, after the break. The first half is Grog and Earthbreaker Gruen sparring, which is unnecessary to watch. What happens in the second half is…Sam Riegel doing Sam Riegel at his best. You will cry, and you will laugh, and then you will understand why I suggested the watch Also, there are complications of Sam as scanlan singing random pop songs at the table that will always cheer you up
