I feel like slow IS probably the wrong word. Its more like methodical but its more than that. It kinda reminds me of The Wire in some aspects. When I took creative writing in college one thing the professor always said is that good storytelling shows you something via description (or in the case of cinema, visually), Rather than just telling you. I think a lesser show would just tell you in a few lines about St. Germain's journey rather than showing it. The end result is much more compelling because we are invested. The same is true of Fly Eyes story. Sure Fly Eyes is a hellspawn, but we feel for him. And I don't think slow is insulting either, many of the best shows on tv have been called "slow" because thats just another word for building story, brick by brick.
