She’s released many solo albums, won 5 Grammys, and collaborate with everybody from Robert Glasper to Joe Sample, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J Blige, Anderson Paak, Marcus Miller - and so many more. She’s also famous for her ability to… sing chords. Oh, and as her last name suggests, the legendary Donny Hathaway is her father.
In this conversation we get into her career, some favorite collaborations, how she approaches music, how she does the chord thing, and talk about the Christmas Heist - the plan to make "This Christmas" hit No. 1.

2023-12-11 05:15:43 +0000 UTCI'm an old guy who grew up listening to Donny Hathaway and now digging Lalah just as much what a incredible singer she is thanks for this interview. In my early music days I was a bass player, but also did roadie work to help pay bills. I was working for a group at the Whiskey and up in the dressing room hanging out and see one of my favorite bass player Willie Weeks who played on Donnie Hathaways Live album. Willie was there to hang with another band on the bill,but their dressing room was packed with people. So Willie just sat in a empty dressing room, so I went over to say hello and we ended up talking music for about thirty minutes. So great getting to just hang out and talk to one of my heros of bass.
