Director's Commentary: Windstar Enterprises

Last week's video titled "The Strangest Thing I've Ever Been Sent" was different from a typical Digging The Greats video. If you haven't seen it, you'll definitely want to watch that before this commentary. This one was so much fun to produce, and while I'm not giving everything away in this commentary - there are a few additional easter eggs and things that provide additional context.

Let me know what you think of this Director's Commentary style video!

Plants need water...you need Bass....and funk. ❤️

Erik Hoffman

The "industry plant" thing when I first started was very funny to me, because I am another example of the "10 year overnight success" 😂

Brandon Shaw

Really enjoyed this BTS of the production. You’ve talked about how some of the paths explored in times past have led to where you are today in a response to an “industry plant” accusation before and the way you phrased it at the time was super meaningful, this builds on that. I hope you share more personal stuff about your journey in the future

Stephen

Has anyone been able to access the "Confidential" file in the trash?

Josh Nelson

How did you, "load the clip in there"?

Josh Nelson

Man I loved that video. Always go with the more creative, experimental direction. That's where all the interestingness is.

Coleman McCormick

Hmmmm, there are so many hidden messages. I will think on it.

The first draft is like the first pancake. It’s fine, edible, but it’s your third pancake where you finally dial it in. You can’t get to that perfect third pancake without making one or two trash pancakes (band name). This is Not my concept, but I can’t remember where I heard it.

ordered my brochure the day the we did the patreon live drop. Love this video, and the whole idea behind the album. I also looooove to see you get into your creative bag with the edits. While im not directly happy for the failures/hardships you talk about in the edits/flashbacks, they are special because now this very special channel has been unleashed upon the world. It helps me when looking back at my own creative failures/hardships with hope instead of regret. Thank you for all you do bshaw 😎

prod_tfm

Yep, those shots are just a camera pointed at the solutions brochure and I loaded a clip in there

Brandon Shaw

I’m the same way - I want to look inside but don’t want to mess it up!

Brandon Shaw

Last post, I promise, lol. Has anyone been able to access the "Confidential" file in the trash? Thanks for exposing me to this Brandon, and tinkering with reality a bit. Really liked the 2-suite video series. Simon's concepting on this thing was masterful.

Josh Nelson

Never heard of RadioLab, will def. check it.

Josh Nelson

For the effect in "Doc's" room (16:05 - ish), where you said you "loaded the clip into the brochure" - you mean into the memory chip in the Solutions booklet? (this relates to my curiosityQuestion in how the video brochure works in the Solutions booklet?)

Josh Nelson

I didn't get the seminar application form in triplicate (lol), or pic w/addressOnBack with my Solution's purchase; I'm guessing that is not a retail piece but used for co-marketer invitations? Also, I want to take the thing apart and look at the screen and where the vid is hosted...how all that works. However, I don't want to destroy it. Maybe you'll do that later in this vid?

Josh Nelson

You explaining all the details just is the cherry on top of this already impressive video! Great work!

Micha B

Great to hear you talk about the process. Thank for sharing here on Patrion.
