RWBY: LIFE AND DEATH - CHAPTER 10
Added 2021-08-19 01:42:18 +0000 UTCEventually, after running all around campus, we arrived at our destination, and… Pyrrha won, it was fun. “So… now what?” I asked Pyrrha who shrugged at my question.
“I expected to see more people here, but it seems I was wrong,” Pyrrha sighed, taking a seat in the empty auditorium.
Taking a deep breath, I took the seat beside her and said, “Well, let’s wait here, knowing my luck the moment I walk out of this room, the introduction will start,”
Pyrrha chuckled, “I relate to that on a painful level,”
“So… what’s your favorite color?” I asked, trying to make conversation.
Pyrrha looked at me, and said, “My favorite color?”
“I am trying to know my assaulter,” I chuckled.
Pyrrha chuckled, “Ok, red and green, oh and gold, wait is gold a color?”
“I think it is,” I nodded.
“What about you?” Pyrrha asked.
“I like black, blue, and red,” I answered.
“I guessed as much with your weapon,” Pyrrha smiled, pointing at my sweet weapon.
“Yep,” I grinned.
“I wanted green for mine, but green with red and gold looks... Weird,” Pyrrha sighed.
As we continued our conversation, asking more and more random questions, like our favorite food, or our favorite type of dust ammunition, the rest of the students started to arrive, one by one, “Oh would you look at that, I was starting to think there was no Beacon, to begin with,”
“I was thinking we were so late, we missed the introduction,” Pyrrha replied.
“Well, fortunately for us, we were early, twenty-five minutes early,” I whistled.
Soon enough, the students filled the room, and the once quiet environment was filled with multiple conversations, like one guy shouting he was possibly the best hunter in the academy, a few minutes after the room was filled to the brim, the headmaster of the academy appeared, Ozpin Haruno, I called him that because according to my friends he was about as useful as an ass-flavored lollipop, unless you are into that, in which case I won’t judge.
As if sensing the introduction was about to start, everyone shut up, and draw their attention to the stage, where Ozpin and Glynda were standing by, “I'll... keep this brief. You have traveled here today in search of knowledge, to hone your craft and acquire new skills, and when you have finished, you plan to dedicate your life to the protection of the people. But I look amongst you, and all I see is wasted energy, in need of purpose, direction. You assume knowledge will free you of this, but your time at this school will prove that knowledge can only carry you so far. It is up to you to take the first step.” well that was surprisingly insightful.
As Ozpin left, Glynda took the microphone and with a cold gaze around said, “You will gather in the ballroom tonight; tomorrow, your initiation begins. Be ready. You are dismissed.”
“Well that was fast,” I sighed.
“So… wanna hang out until the initiation?” Pyrrha asked.
I could tell by the way she asked, she was a girl of very few friends, I wonder why, she seems quite friendly, “Sure,” I smiled, to which she beamed.
“I’M A NATURAL BLONDE YOU KNOW!” Someone shouted, why would anyone shout that?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hanging out with Pyrrha was fun enough, and soon enough the night fell upon us, so we went to the designated area for, quote on quote, possible students to sleep, the possible part was because our real admission depended of the initiation tomorrow, anyhow, we walked to the designated area where most of the students already were, splayed around the massive warehouse looking building, and it was at this point I found out, I didn’t have a sleeping bag, “Fuck,” I muttered.
“What?” Pyrrha inquired.
“I forgot to buy a sleeping bag,” I sighed, “but worry not, I can’t sleep anywhere,” a skill I had acquired in my homeless years with Sienna.
“Absolutely not!” Pyrrha exclaimed, almost sounding insulted at what I had said, “I won’t let a friend of mine sleep on the ground, take my sleeping bag,” I looked at her and smile, the fact she already considered me her friend giving me a warm fuzzy feeling in my heart.
“Appreciated, but I won’t let a friend of mine, sleep on the floor, so… thanks but no thanks,” I smiled.
“Don’t be silly, I have two!” Pyrrha smiled.
“Two?” Why would she have two sleeping bags?
“I always have a spare of anything, toothbrushes, sleeping bags, shampoos, in case anyone needs,” Pyrrha smiled.
“Then I will gladly take that sleeping bag,” I chuckled.
“I wasn’t going to take a no for an answer anyways,” Pyrrha grinned, as she looked around, “The question now is… where do we set our camp?”
“Hmm, no idea,” I hummed, my eyes catching the sight of one little cat I was meaning to greet, “But, I will let you find our camping spot, I have something to do,”
“Ok,” Pyrrha nodded, taking the mission of finding a sleeping post quite seriously.
As I walked towards Blake, who was reading a book at the distance, someone whistled, “Wow you are big,” at this, I chuckled.
“Well, thank you,” I winked.
“Oh god, I said that out loud,” This one I recognized, Yang Xiao Long, a tall, fair-skinned young woman with lilac eyes and bright golden hair that fades to pale gold at the tips, and a natural flirtatious personality to mix all that up.
“Well, is not untrue,” I was, very big, seven-foot and a half.
“Yeah you are,” Yang smiled, “The name is Yang, and it goes with a bang,” where are crickets when you need them.
“Umber, Umber Khan,” I replied, “Not that this wasn’t fun and all, but I have things to do,” I smiled, taking my leave.
“I am liking my stay here at beacon more and more,” I heard Yang muttered.
“Yang! I will tell dad!” and that has to be Ruby, I wonder if I failed to see her cause she’s so small.
Chuckling at my interaction with the blond, I continued to where Blake was, stopping right in front of her, “Hey,”
“I’m rea--” Blake stopped midsentence when she realized who she was talking with, “Umber?!”
“No, his evil twin brother,” I deadpanned.
“What are you doing here?” Blake whispered in a hush tone.
“I enrolled, just like you, looking for a fresh start,” I replied, seeing no reason to hide my motives, at least from her. As we continued to talk, I smelled Yang and someone else approaching us, which meant I had to start holding back my words, didn’t want people figuring out my past.
“So you like the brunettes more than the blondes, huh?” Yang grinned.
“I like what I like,” I winked, “But Blake and I, are… old friends, one could say,” I lied
“We used to play together back when we were kids,” Blake supported my lie.
“Hi… my name is Ruby!” Wow, she’s small…
“A pleasure to meet you,” I smiled, “Well, I’m off, I have a friend who is most likely already waiting for me, so bye~”
