OVERLORD: GOD OF THE NEW WORLD - CHAPTER 29
Added 2021-08-29 20:13:28 +0000 UTC[Alastor POV]
I strolled over to where the dragon had summoned me, encountering him at the location like his letter had said. His gaze was firm, and somewhat cold and detached, like that of someone who knew he was going to die, but was also sure of his victory, which made me question what he was planning to make him feel in such a way.
"Now what?" I asked him, fixing my eyes on him, wondering how it was possible for someone who knew he was going to die to be so relaxed, and not in an accepting way, this was beyond accepting your fate like one does at the jaws of the reaper, this was beyond such sentiments.
"Now I guide you to where we will fight," the dragon replied with a faint smile, his scaly lips barely moving.
I looked at him for a second that seemed to stretch for an eternity, trying to understand his behavior. "Okay." I replied. If he had anything planned I was going to fail, no matter what, my power was far above his, far above any plan.
Walking slowly, one step at a time without increasing speed, the dragon commented. "Did you ever wonder how... or why you came to this world?"
Hiding my surprise at such a question, I looked at him and answered. "No, not really," This was the truth, I never wondered why.
"It all started because of a dragon full of greed," the dragon answered without stopping his pace. "He wanted to be the undisputed king of this world, the emperor, and god of everything his gaze touched."
Connecting the dots, I burst out laughing, "And he failed horribly didn't he?"
Laughing with me, the dragon nodded, "Yes, his desire for power led him to use an incomplete ritual of his own creation to summon beings more powerful than himself, these beings never served him..."
"I don't blame them, no one wants to be anyone's slave." I snickered.
"That's true," the dragon concurred. "But this goes beyond the freedom of will. If these creatures had simply wished to be free of anyone's command... much pain could have been avoided, but they wanted more."
I looked at him, arching an eyebrow, "And what did they want?"
"The vast majority... death and destruction. A few... to be heroes, their desires were many, but most were bad." the dragon answered.
With a chuckle I replied. "It doesn't seem to be a problem of the summoned, but of luck in summoning them."
"At first... I thought the same... that the ritual had chosen the summons randomly... and most of them were evil beings." the dragon said with a grim undertone. “But… soon I discovered the reality behind their behavior.”
"Don't tell me... I'm a monster because of the ritual?" I chuckled.
The dragon laughed, "I don't really know, it's a possibility... maybe in your world you were this cruel... or maybe not... you tell me."
I looked at him, thinking what to answer, trying to articulate something… anything… if I answered with the truth, I would be admitting he was right… and by proxy… I would be admitting my choices were not my own but a product of my transformation, a side effect of my ascension, and I refused to accept that, but… as much as it pained me to admit it, he was right… at least in some part, the me of the past would’ve never done such things.
“So I take it you weren’t the monster you are here in your world,” As if understanding my silence, the Dragon sighed.
“You are pushing your luck, filthy lizard.” I hissed.
“I suppose I am,” the dragon replied, “Anyway as I was saying… these creatures… suffered from a change the moment they entered this world, their minds breaking and reforming to match something… not sure why.”
To match our characters, the evil overlord Ainz, the fallen angel… me, were we just like our NPCs, slaves of our own design?! No! I was a God, a being beyond such things, we changed because the world demanded us to change! “This conversation ends now…” I growled, “As does your life.”
“I see, I’m glad to know you weren’t a monster before coming here…” as he said this, his fellow dragons came into view, which surprised me a bit… considering they had apparently bypassed my magic sensing.
“NOW!” One of them shouted, his scales looking like silver… no platinum.
“Dragon Lord barrier!” they all shouted in one voice, creating a dimensional barrier, linked to their life forces if the feeling I was feeling was anything to go by.
Amused, and angry, I laughed, “You think linking yourselves to the barrier will stop me from leaving?” if anything they only sealed their destinies.
“We’ll see!” Cure, the undead dragon I had first met hissed.
“You will die tonight.. Player!” a black looking dragon hissed, and considering what I felt coming from him… he was my elemental weakness… Too bad a bug with a knife it's still a bug.
“Cute,” I chuckled, as the dragons got into position, three of them being the front liners from what I could see… oh, smart. They were putting those who would resist more of my attacks in the front line, quite impressive, but ultimately, useless.
“Today… the world will see a change,” Brightness, the dragon that had talked with me all the way here, declared. “Let’s do this.”

[Draudillon Oriculus POV]
The battle for the fate of the world had begun, and I could only hope Platinum was right, saying that their deaths would bring a new horizon into this world, or a new era of doom, either way, the fate of this world… would be decided today.
“My queen… the dragon lords… have begun.” One of my royal guards informed me.
“Very well… now all we can do is wait… and hope the idiot of a grandpa I have knows what he is doing.” Losing, winning… none of that mattered, his plan was beyond that… beyond life and death.
