Twilight: We Are Venom! - chapter 8

It has been two years since we embarked on our quest to find Alice, from Missipi to Washington, we had yet to find her. Perhaps Texas would be the one; it was our twelfth state as of today, we could only hope she was here, we wanted that much, with a sigh, we entered the cheapest hotel we could find, in the poorest district of the state, started registering for the room.

The woman at the counter shot us a dirty look as we signed the register. It bothered us, the wariness, the distrust. She didn’t know us; she had no reason to be wary of our presence, especially when the hotel looks like crap. Then again, we knew we looked like a homeless guy by this point, not much time to tidy up when you are searching almost twenty-four hours a day. But still, we had money; she had no reason to look at us like that.

“You have to leave by tomorrow or pay another day before noon,” The woman said, giving us the key, “The rules of the hotel are on the wall; memorize then, one strike, and you are out,” we frowned at that, turning to look at the sign.

No visits.

No food in the rooms.

No pets.

No loud noises.

No dancing.

“Do you understand the rules,” The woman said condescendingly as if asking if we knew how to read.

“Yes,” We answered. “The rules are clear; we’ll—” We stop mid-sentence; we had to stop using the we when talking to others, it gets confusing, and people misunderstand, as did the woman who frowned most likely I would bring in a hooker, or some other company. “I’ll follow the rules to the letter,”

“Good,” The woman said, looking me up and down before going back to her office, giving us once last time the stink eye.

[Venom POV]

The next morning we woke up and started searching for Alice left and right until we found something… a smell that we hadn’t smelled before, well… we had, but not like this, it smelled like a dead body, not decayed… like a fresh one. It was hard to explain. It smelled like a recently dead human, but colder; it didn’t smell bad, but like when food is touched by roaches, it was clear to tell there was something wrong.

‘What is that?’ Jack wondered.

‘Maybe a human that just died recently…’ I answered to the best of my knowledge, but like him, I had no idea what was the smell we had just caught.

‘I don’t think so, by how fast the scent seemed to move, I doubt it was something between the human lines of normal,’ Jack said, ‘It moved almost as fast as us,’

‘Undeads? None of the ones I know smell like this,’ I replied, but with us being in a different universe, everything was possible.

‘Whatever it is, we have to be careful,’ Jack sighed.

‘Let’s go and say hi…’ Whatever that creature was, it was getting in our way; with the smell that he was leaving behind, it was hard to concentrate on what we were looking for, Alice.

[James POV]

A few weeks ago, I had found my singer… oh, how delightful she smelled, it was like a symphony to me, that made my mouth water with anticipation, so sweet and delectable, her smell was almost creamy with a hint of lemony around edges accompanied by a fermented tone only found in the best wines in the world.

Délicieusement unique et juste pour moi.

And the best part is that someone was keeping her from me, a vampire was moving and on the run with my final desert, from New York to Arkansas, the naive vampire was moving her, leaving clothes and other items to slow me down, this only made my hunt… more fun.

“James, we have to go,” Victoria hissed; I knew by now it was her gift acting up; someone was coming for us.

“Relax, whoever comes our way, we’ll die for it,” I smiled, grabbing the hooker I had snatched earlier for dinner, “Now, let me eat…” Victoria growled at that and went outside throwing a tantrum.

“Please… I don’t want to die,” The poor defenseless little girl cried, just like I wanted; I enjoyed the raw fear of her expression.

“Are you scare?” I asked, caressing her cheek as I leaned close enough to lick her neck. “Good, I love the taste of fear in my meals.” As I was about to bit her and have my well-deserved meal, I noticed something was wrong; the girl wasn’t looking at me with fear, but something behind me.

“What a coincidence!” A snarling hiss of a voice came from behind me. It wasn’t human; it was almost demon-like, “So do we!” The next thing I know, I was thrown against the wall with a single hit.

Shaking the debris off my clothes, I jumped to my feet curious as to why I couldn’t smell him, but for now, that would have to wait, right now I was ready to face whoever had attacked me, though I didn’t expect seeing what I was seeing, the thing in front of me, was farther away from humanity than I was, or vampires in general, the monster was big. Really big, around eight feet tall. His entire body coated in an ink-like material that resembled the darkness itself, with tendrils that swirled off of its limbs and white splotches that I assumed were his eyes, accompanied by a mouth full of murderous teeth.

“James, are you-” Victoria stopped cold on her tracks, seeing the beast in front of me, “What that hell is that?!”

“A soon to be dead thing,” I confidently stated.

“Aren’t you adorable,” The monster hissed, his tongue hanging from his mouth as he slowly walked towards me, stopping after a few steps, sniffing something from the air, “Why do you smell like Chipmunk!” the monster growled, this time angry.

“Chipmunk?” I was actually lost what he actually meant… oh, he must mean my singer, “So is that her name? Well, I am hunting her…” I taunted; for whatever reason, this monster seemed attached to her, which could give me an edge.

“Who... no, what are you!?” Victoria asked, jumping by my side.

The monster didn’t answer, still shaking with anger from what I had told him, “WE. ARE. VENOM!” and with that, he lunged at us.
