Destroyer Through The Multiverse Ch 21
Added 2024-07-26 23:35:25 +0000 UTCTatsuya grunted as he and Tony maneuvered the bulky Stark Expo model through the mansion's doorway. The thing weighed a ton, and its awkward shape made it a challenge to carry. They shuffled sideways, careful not to bump into anything.
"Easy does it," Tony said, his voice strained. "This thing's probably worth more than your yearly salary."
Tatsuya raised an eyebrow but said nothing. He doubted Tony knew how much SHIELD paid him.
They set the model down in Tony's workshop with a collective sigh of relief. Tatsuya straightened, rolling his shoulders to work out the kinks. Tony, on the other hand, immediately circled the model like a shark scenting blood.
"Jarvis," Tony called out, "I want a digital scan of this. Every detail, you got it?"
"Certainly, sir," the AI replied. A blue light swept over the model, creating a holographic representation in the air above it.
Tatsuya watched, fascinated. He'd seen some impressive tech in his travels across dimensions, but Jarvis never failed to impress him. The AI worked quickly, breaking down the model into its component parts and reassembling them in the air.
Tony muttered to himself, fingers dancing through the hologram. He expanded sections, rotated others, his eyes darting back and forth as if reading an invisible script. Tatsuya knew better than to interrupt. He'd seen Tony like this before, lost in the labyrinth of his own genius.
"That sneaky bastard," Tony said suddenly, a grin spreading across his face.
Tatsuya perked up. "Found something?"
Tony nodded, his eyes never leaving the hologram. "Oh yeah. Dad, you brilliant son of a bitch."
With a few gestures, Tony manipulated the hologram. The model of the Stark Expo twisted and changed, buildings rearranging themselves into a new configuration. Tatsuya's eyes widened as he realized what he was looking at.
"Is that...?"
"An atom," Tony confirmed, his voice filled with wonder. "The Expo isn't just an expo. It's a model of a new element."
Tatsuya moved closer, studying the holographic atom. It was unlike anything he'd seen before. "Your father hid this in plain sight all these years?"
Tony nodded, his fingers still moving through the hologram, refining the model. "He couldn't synthesize it himself. The technology didn't exist back then." He turned to Tatsuya, his eyes gleaming with excitement. "But it does now."
Tatsuya felt a surge of hope. If this new element could replace the palladium in Tony's arc reactor, it might save his life. But he tempered his optimism. He'd seen too many promising leads turn to dead ends.
"So what's next?" Tatsuya asked.
Tony was already moving, grabbing tools and clearing space in his workshop. "We build a particle accelerator."
Tatsuya blinked. "In your basement?"
"Why not?" Tony shrugged, as if constructing a highly advanced piece of scientific equipment in his home was perfectly normal. For him, Tatsuya supposed, it probably was.
As Tony bustled about, muttering calculations and barking orders at Jarvis, Tatsuya found himself smiling. This was Tony Stark at his best – brilliant, driven, and just a little bit crazy. It was a far cry from the man he'd seen drowning his sorrows at the party.
Tatsuya rolled up his sleeves. "What can I do to help?"
Tony tossed him a wrench. "Start by clearing that wall. We're gonna need the space."
For the next few hours, Tatsuya worked alongside Tony, transforming the workshop into a makeshift particle physics lab. They tore down walls, rerouted power cables, and jury-rigged equipment that probably cost more than most people's houses.
As they worked, Tatsuya couldn't help but marvel at the turn of events. Just yesterday, Tony had been a man without hope, drinking himself into oblivion. Now, he was on the verge of a breakthrough that could change everything.
As the sun began to set, casting long shadows through the workshop windows, Tony stepped back to survey their work. The particle accelerator, cobbled together from spare parts and sheer genius, dominated the room.
"Not bad for a day's work," Tony said, wiping sweat from his brow.
Tatsuya nodded, feeling a sense of accomplishment. "Think it'll work?"
Tony's grin was answer enough. "Only one way to find out."
Tatsuya stood back as Tony made the final adjustments to the makeshift particle accelerator. The workshop hummed with energy, wires snaking across the floor and equipment balanced precariously on every available surface. Tatsuya's heart raced with anticipation and a hint of fear. This was either going to work brilliantly or blow up in their faces.
"Ready?" Tony asked, his hand hovering over the control panel.
Tatsuya nodded, bracing himself. "As I'll ever be."
Tony flipped the switch. The machine roared to life, vibrating with raw power. Tatsuya watched in awe as a brilliant beam of energy shot out, carving a path through the workshop. It sliced through a shelf of equipment, sending tools and parts clattering to the floor.
"Whoops," Tony muttered, adjusting the beam's trajectory.
The laser zeroed in on its target: a small, triangle-shaped piece of metal suspended in the center of the room. As the beam hit it, the metal began to glow. Tatsuya squinted against the increasing brightness, shielding his eyes with his hand.
"Jarvis, how're we looking?" Tony called out, his voice barely audible over the machine's roar.
"Power levels are holding steady, sir," Jarvis replied. "The new element is forming as predicted."
The triangle glowed brighter and brighter, until it was painful to look at even through Tatsuya's fingers. He could feel the heat radiating from it, washing over him in waves.
Just when Tatsuya thought it couldn't get any more intense, Tony shouted, "Now!" and slammed his hand down on the control panel. The machine whined down, the laser fading away. In the sudden silence, Tatsuya's ears rang.
They approached the glowing triangle cautiously. It pulsed with an otherworldly light, hovering in midair. Tony reached out with a pair of tongs, carefully grasping the new element.
"We did it," Tatsuya breathed, hardly daring to believe it.
Tony's face split into a wide grin. "Was there ever any doubt?"
They hurried over to where Tony had prepared a new arc reactor. With steady hands, Tony placed the triangle into the center of the device. It fit perfectly, as if it had been made for this very purpose.
"Jarvis, run diagnostics," Tony ordered, stepping back.
"Certainly, sir," Jarvis replied. A moment passed, then another. Tatsuya held his breath, acutely aware of how much was riding on this moment.
Finally, Jarvis spoke again. "The new element is stable and functioning within expected parameters. Power output is... remarkable. Congratulations, sir. You have successfully synthesized a new element."
Tatsuya let out a whoop of joy, clapping Tony on the back. They'd done it. They'd actually done it. Tony laughed, the sound full of relief and triumph.
As the reality of their success sank in, Tatsuya looked around the workshop. It was a mess, with scorch marks on the walls and debris scattered everywhere. But in the center of it all sat the new arc reactor, glowing with a steady, brilliant light. A light that meant Tony Stark would live.
Tatsuya watched as Tony carefully placed the newly synthesized element into the Arc Reactor. The device hummed to life, its blue glow intensifying. Tony set it on the workbench, a mixture of triumph and caution on his face.
"Jarvis, run a full diagnostic on the new reactor," Tony instructed, his eyes never leaving the glowing device.
"Certainly, sir. Initiating comprehensive analysis now," Jarvis replied.
Tatsuya felt a wave of relief wash over him. They'd done it. Against all odds, they'd created a new element and potentially saved Tony's life. He couldn't help but grin, the excitement of their achievement bubbling up inside him.
Tony turned to Tatsuya, a wide smile breaking across his face. "We did it, kid. We actually did it."
Tatsuya nodded, still somewhat in awe of what they'd accomplished. "It's incredible. I've seen some amazing things, but this... this is something else."
Tony clapped him on the shoulder. "Couldn't have done it without you. Well, I probably could have, but it would've taken at least an extra hour."
Tatsuya chuckled, recognizing Tony's attempt at humility for what it was. "Happy to help save the great Tony Stark."
They shared a laugh, the tension of the past few days finally breaking. Tony walked over to a small fridge in the corner of the workshop and pulled out two bottles.
"I think this calls for a celebration," Tony said, tossing one of the bottles to Tatsuya.
Tatsuya caught it easily, raising an eyebrow when he saw it was sparkling water. "No champagne?"
Tony shrugged, twisting the cap off his own bottle. "Figured I should ease up on the alcohol for a bit. Plus, I want to be clear-headed when I put that new reactor in."
They clinked their bottles together, both taking a long drink. Tatsuya had to admit, the cold water felt good after hours of hard work. He leaned against the workbench, surveying the chaos around them.
"So, what's next?" he asked.
Tony opened his mouth to respond, but before he could speak, his phone began to ring. He fished it out of his pocket, frowning at the screen.
"Unknown number," he muttered, then answered the call. "Stark here."
"Hello, Tony." The thick Russian accent sent a chill down his spine.
"Vanko." Tony's jaw clenched. He met Tatsuya's concerned gaze and put the call on speaker.
"You come from a family of thieves and butchers. Now, like all guilty men, you try to rewrite your history." Vanko's voice dripped with venom. "You forget all the lives the Stark family has destroyed."
Tony's grip on the phone tightened. "And now you're trying to make me feel guilty?"
Vanko chuckled darkly. "No. I make you dead."
The line went dead. Tony's heart raced as he turned to Jarvis. "Trace that call."
"I'm sorry, sir. The call was too short to establish a trace."
Tony cursed under his breath. He paced the workshop, mind racing. "Vanko's planning something. But what?"
Tatsuya cleared his throat. "The Stark Expo. Isn't Hammer scheduled to make a demonstration there?"
Tony's eyes widened. He grabbed a tablet, fingers flying across the screen. "You're right. Hammer's showcasing new drones tonight." He looked up, a grim expression on his face. "And I bet Vanko's behind it."
"We need to warn them," Tatsuya said.
Tony shook his head. "No time. We need to get there now." He moved towards the new arc reactor, determination etched on his face.
"Sir, the reactor hasn't been properly tested," Jarvis warned. "I cannot recommend-"
"Mute," Tony snapped. He reached for the device.
Tatsuya stepped forward. "Tony, wait. Jarvis is right. We don't know how your body will react to-"
Tony cut him off. "What I do know is that Vanko's out there, planning God knows what with Hammer's tech. I'm not sitting this one out." He locked eyes with Tatsuya. "You in or out?"
Tatsuya hesitated, then nodded. "In."
Tony grinned, despite the gravity of the situation. He removed his old reactor, wincing at the familiar ache. The new one slid into place with a satisfying click. For a moment, nothing happened. Then, a surge of energy coursed through him, unlike anything he'd felt before.
"How do you feel?" Tatsuya asked, concern evident in his voice.
Tony flexed his hands, marveling at the power thrumming through his veins. "Like I could take on an army." He moved towards his suit. "Let's hope I don't have to."
