Ultraman A New Light ch 16
Added 2024-08-02 04:14:44 +0000 UTCChairman Durandal led Athrun through the winding corridors of the PLANT's military complex, their footsteps echoing off the polished metal floors. The air grew cooler as they approached a restricted area, the hum of advanced machinery growing louder with each step.
"There's something I'd like to show you, Athrun," Durandal said, his voice calm and measured as always. "I believe it may help you understand the role I envision for you."
They reached a massive set of reinforced doors. Durandal placed his hand on a biometric scanner, and with a hiss of hydraulics, the doors slid open. Athrun's eyes widened as they entered a cavernous hangar bathed in soft blue light.
The moment they crossed the threshold, Athrun felt the familiar sensation of zero gravity taking hold. He instinctively adjusted his stance, his body remembering years of training in space. Durandal seemed entirely at ease, guiding them forward with gentle pushes against the handrails that lined the walkway.
As they floated deeper into the hangar, Athrun's gaze was drawn to a towering silhouette at the center. The blue light shimmered off its metallic surface, revealing the unmistakable form of a mobile suit. But this was no ordinary machine.
"Allow me to introduce you to the ZGMF-X23S Saviour Gundam," Durandal announced, a hint of pride in his voice.
Athrun stared in awe at the Gundam before them. Its sleek lines and advanced weaponry spoke of cutting-edge technology, far beyond even the impressive machines he had piloted in the past. The Saviour's red and white color scheme seemed to glow under the hangar lights, its presence both beautiful and intimidating.

"It's... incredible," Athrun breathed, his eyes tracing every detail of the mobile suit.
Durandal nodded, a small smile playing at the corners of his mouth. "The Saviour was developed alongside the Chaos, Gaia, and Abyss – the very units that were stolen from us. It represents the pinnacle of our current mobile suit technology."
As they hovered before the Saviour, Durandal's expression grew more serious. "Athrun, I want to entrust you with this machine."
Athrun turned to face the chairman, surprise evident in his features. "Me? But I'm not..."
"You're not currently with ZAFT, I know," Durandal finished for him, his tone gentle but insistent. "But that's precisely why I'm asking you to consider rejoining us. Your skills, your experience – they're invaluable, Athrun. And with the Saviour, you could make a real difference in maintaining the peace we've all fought so hard to achieve."
The chairman's calm demeanor seemed to fill the vast hangar, his words carrying the weight of sincere belief. Athrun found himself torn, his gaze shifting between Durandal and the imposing figure of the Saviour Gundam.
"I understand your hesitation," Durandal continued, his voice echoing slightly in the cavernous space. "But consider the good you could do. The Saviour isn't just a weapon – it's a symbol of our commitment to protecting both Coordinators and Naturals alike."
Athrun's mind raced, considering the implications of Durandal's offer. The chairman's unwavering gaze and the looming presence of the Saviour seemed to demand a decision. Yet, even as part of him yearned to accept, to once again take up the mantle of a ZAFT pilot, another part hesitated, remembering the complexities and painful choices of his past.
As they floated there in the zero gravity of the hangar, the soft hum of machinery providing a constant backdrop, Athrun found himself at a crossroads. The Saviour Gundam stood before him, a testament to technological prowess and a potential key to shaping the future. Durandal waited patiently, his calm demeanor belying the weight of the moment.
As Athrun contemplated Durandal's offer, his eyes fixed on the imposing figure of the Saviour Gundam, a sudden, piercing alarm shattered the silence of the hangar. Red lights began flashing throughout the cavernous space, bathing the mobile suit in an eerie, pulsating glow.
Durandal's serene expression faltered for a moment, his brow furrowing with concern. He reached for a communication device on his wrist, but before he could activate it, the heavy doors of the hangar slid open. Two guards in ZAFT uniforms rushed in, their movements slightly awkward in the zero-gravity environment.
"Chairman Durandal!" one of the guards called out, his voice tight with urgency. "We're under attack, sir!"
Durandal's calm demeanor reasserted itself as he turned to face the guards. "What's the situation?" he asked, his voice steady despite the blaring alarms.
The second guard pushed off from the doorway, propelling himself towards Durandal and Athrun. "It's not clear, sir. Our outer defenses have been breached, and there are reports of massive structural damage to the colony's outer shell."
Athrun's military instincts kicked in, his mind already racing through possible scenarios. "Is it the Earth Alliance?" he asked, his voice sharp with concern. "Have they launched a surprise attack?"
The guard shook his head, his expression a mix of confusion and fear. "No, sir. It's... it's not the Earth Alliance. Our sensors are picking up a single, massive life form. The reports coming in... they're saying it's a Kaiju."
...
In the bustling commercial district of the PLANT colony, Mira Vance stood before a nondescript office building, her crew fidgeting nervously behind her. The salvage captain's weathered face betrayed no emotion as she entered the dimly lit office of Arlo Kessler, a well-known broker with a reputation for dealing in rare and sometimes questionable artifacts.
Arlo, a thin man with thinning hair and wire-rimmed glasses, peered at the black sphere Mira had placed on his desk. His eyes gleamed with curiosity and barely concealed greed.
"Fascinating," he murmured, running a scanner over the object's surface. "I've never seen anything quite like it. Where did you say you found this, Captain Vance?"
Mira crossed her arms, her stance casual but alert. "I didn't say. Let's just focus on what it's worth to you."
Arlo chuckled, adjusting his glasses. "Direct as always, Mira. I appreciate that about you." He leaned in closer, examining the sphere's shifting surface. "It's certainly unique. The energy readings are off the charts, but I can't quite pinpoint what kind of energy it is."
As Arlo continued his inspection, Mira's crew exchanged uneasy glances. Dex, the young engineer who had first touched the sphere, whispered to Ava, "I don't like this. Something feels... off."
Ava nodded, her hand unconsciously moving towards the sidearm hidden beneath her jacket. "Stay alert," she whispered back.
Suddenly, the sphere began to pulse with an eerie, dark light. Arlo jerked back, nearly toppling out of his chair. "What the hell?"
Mira's eyes widened as she watched tendrils of dark energy begin to seep from the sphere's surface. "Everyone back!" she shouted, grabbing Arlo by the collar and yanking him away from the desk.
The crew scrambled backwards, pressing themselves against the office walls as the dark energy swirled and grew, enveloping the sphere in a cocoon of inky blackness.
"What's happening?" Arlo cried, his earlier composure shattered. "Mira, what is that thing?"
Mira shook her head, her hand moving to her own weapon. "I don't know. We found it in a debris field. It was inert until now."
The dark energy continued to expand, filling the office with an oppressive, almost living darkness. The air grew thick and heavy, making it difficult to breathe.
Dex, his face pale with fear, whispered, "Captain, I think we should get out of here."
Before Mira could respond, the swirling energy began to take shape. It grew larger, towering over them, its form solidifying into something monstrous and alien.
As the darkness receded, they found themselves face to face with a colossal insectoid creature. Its body was covered in a thick, chitinous exoskeleton, and massive, antler-like pincers framed its head. The creature's eyes glowed with an otherworldly intelligence as it surveyed the terrified humans before it.
"Oh my god," Ava breathed, her voice barely audible. "It's... it's a Kaiju."
As Antlar materialized in the confined space of Arlo's office, the massive Kaiju's body quickly outgrew its surroundings. The walls and ceiling crumbled around it, debris raining down on the terrified humans below. Mira Vance, her crew, and Arlo scrambled for cover as the monster's enormous form burst through the building, emerging into the bustling commercial district of the PLANT colony.
The peaceful atmosphere of the colony shattered as Antlar let out a deafening roar, its mandibles clicking ominously. Panic spread like wildfire through the streets as civilians caught sight of the towering insectoid creature. People ran in all directions, their screams filling the air as they desperately sought shelter from the impending destruction.
Antlar's massive pincers swung wildly, smashing through nearby buildings as if they were made of paper. Glass shattered and steel beams groaned under the assault. The Kaiju's every step sent tremors through the colony's structure, causing further panic among the fleeing populace.
In the chaos, many were unable to escape the monster's path. Antlar's rampaging form crushed vehicles and toppled structures, trapping civilians beneath the rubble. Cries for help echoed through the streets as the injured struggled to free themselves from the wreckage.
Within minutes of Antlar's appearance, ZAFT's military response kicked into high gear. Alarms blared throughout the colony as emergency protocols were activated. In the military hangars, pilots rushed to their mobile suits, preparing to engage the unprecedented threat.
The first wave of defenders consisted of ZGMF-1017 GINNs, ZAFT's reliable workhorse mobile suits. They soared into view, their thrusters leaving trails of blue light as they approached Antlar. The GINNs opened fire with their 76mm heavy assault machine guns, peppering the Kaiju with a barrage of high-velocity rounds.
But Antlar's thick exoskeleton proved too resilient. The bullets ricocheted off its armored hide, doing little more than annoying the monstrous creature. Antlar turned its attention to the attacking mobile suits, its eyes glowing with malevolent intelligence.
Suddenly, a brilliant beam of magnetic energy shot forth from between Antlar's pincers. The beam struck one of the GINNs, instantly magnetizing its metal frame. The pilot cried out in surprise as his mobile suit was violently pulled towards Antlar. With a sickening crunch, the GINN was crushed between the Kaiju's massive mandibles.
Seeing the ineffectiveness of their ranged attacks, the remaining GINNs switched to close-quarters combat. They drew their heavy swords, the blades glinting in the artificial light of the colony as they charged towards Antlar. But the Kaiju's reflexes were lightning-fast. It swatted two GINNs out of the air with its pincers, sending them crashing into nearby buildings.
As the first wave of defenders fell, a squadron of ZGMF-1000 ZAKU Warriors joined the fray. These more advanced mobile suits unleashed a barrage of beam rifle fire, their energy weapons sizzling through the air towards Antlar. But once again, the Kaiju's incredible defenses held firm. The beams splashed harmlessly against its armored hide, leaving barely a scorch mark.
Antlar retaliated with another blast of its magnetic beam, this time sweeping it across the battlefield. The ZAKU Warriors found themselves being pulled inexorably towards the monster, their pilots struggling against the overwhelming magnetic force. Several mobile suits collided mid-air, exploding in brilliant fireballs that rained debris onto the streets below.
A lone ZAKU Warrior, piloted by a particularly skilled ace, managed to evade the magnetic beam. The pilot pushed their mobile suit to its limits, weaving through the air and closing in on Antlar. With a burst of its thrusters, the ZAKU Warrior raised its beam axe, aiming for a vulnerable spot between the Kaiju's armor plates.
But Antlar was ready. Just as the ZAKU Warrior was about to strike, the monster's pincers snapped shut around the mobile suit. The pilot's scream was cut short as Antlar crushed the ZAKU Warrior like a tin can, its destroyed remains falling to the ground in a shower of sparks and twisted metal.
As the battle raged on, the destruction spread further through the colony. Antlar's rampage left a swath of devastation in its wake. Buildings crumbled, infrastructure collapsed, and fires broke out across the commercial district. Emergency services were overwhelmed, struggling to evacuate civilians and tend to the wounded amidst the ongoing chaos.
From the safety of a nearby shelter, Mira Vance and her crew watched the unfolding catastrophe with horror. The salvage captain's face was grim as she realized the role they had played in bringing this monster to the PLANT colony. "What have we done?" she whispered, her voice barely audible over the sounds of destruction outside.
