Ultraman A New Light ch 24

In the Minerva's state-of-the-art training facility, Haru Yasu stood at attention, his heart racing with anticipation. The room buzzed with activity as technicians and medical staff prepared various equipment for the physical tests that would determine his suitability as a pilot for the Mobile Suit Kaiju Taskforce.

Dr. Mira Chen, the Minerva's chief medical officer, approached Haru with a tablet in hand. "Ready to begin, Mr. Yasu?"

Haru nodded, his voice steady despite his nerves. "Yes, ma'am."

"Let's start with the basics. Height, weight, and body composition."

Haru stepped onto a platform. Laser scanners whirred to life, creating a detailed 3D model of his body. Dr. Chen studied the results, her eyebrows rising slightly.

"Impressive muscle density for someone in a technical role," she remarked. "Do you work out often?"

Haru shrugged. "I try to stay in shape."

Next came the cardiovascular tests. Haru found himself on a treadmill, electrodes attached to his chest and temples. As the incline and speed increased, he focused on maintaining a steady rhythm, his breath controlled and even.

Dr. Chen watched the monitors closely. "Your endurance is exceptional, Mr. Yasu. Have you considered a career change before now?"

Haru managed a smile between breaths. "Not until recently."

The strength tests followed. Haru grunted as he lifted weights, pushed against resistance machines, and performed a series of bodyweight exercises. Sweat beaded on his forehead, but he pushed through, determined to prove himself.

As Haru completed the final rep, he caught sight of Athrun Zala observing from the doorway. The FAITH member's presence added an extra layer of pressure, but Haru refused to let it affect his performance.

"Alright, Mr. Yasu," Dr. Chen said, reviewing the data. "Your physical capabilities are well above average. Now, let's test your reflexes and hand-eye coordination."

Haru moved to a simulator pod, similar to those used for mobile suit training. The system came to life, presenting him with a series of rapidly moving targets. His fingers flew across the controls, eyes darting from screen to screen as he tracked and neutralized each objective.

Time seemed to blur as Haru lost himself in the simulation. When it finally ended, he blinked, surprised to find his heart racing and palms sweaty.

Dr. Chen's voice cut through his daze. "Remarkable performance, Mr. Yasu. Your reaction times are on par with our top pilots."

Haru stepped out of the pod, meeting Athrun's gaze. The older pilot nodded, a hint of approval in his eyes.

"Thank you, Dr. Chen," Haru said, his voice filled with quiet determination. "What's next?"

Dr. Chen led Haru to the next phase of testing, a series of psychological evaluations designed to assess his mental fortitude and decision-making skills under pressure. As Haru settled into a chair, electrodes attached to his temples, Athrun stepped forward to observe more closely.

"This part of the evaluation is crucial," Athrun explained, his voice calm but serious. "Piloting a mobile suit isn't just about physical prowess. It's about maintaining composure in high-stress situations and making split-second decisions that could mean life or death."

Haru nodded, his determination evident in his steady gaze. "I understand, sir."

The simulation began, immersing Haru in various scenarios ranging from battlefield chaos to diplomatic negotiations. His responses were measured, each decision carefully weighed despite the time pressure. As the test progressed, the scenarios became increasingly complex, forcing Haru to confront moral dilemmas and unexpected twists.

Meanwhile, in the Minerva's command center, Captain Talia Gladys reviewed the latest intelligence reports on Kaiju sightings. Her brow furrowed as she studied the patterns, noting an increase in frequency and intensity of attacks. Arthur Trine stood nearby, concern etched on his face.

"Captain," Arthur began, "do you think we're prepared for this escalating threat?"

Talia's eyes remained fixed on the screen. "We have to be, Arthur. That's why the formation of the MSKT is so crucial. We need every advantage we can get."

Back in the testing facility, Haru completed the final scenario, exhaling deeply as the simulation ended. Dr. Chen and Athrun exchanged glances, both impressed by the young technician's performance.

"Your results are exceptional, Mr. Yasu," Dr. Chen said, reviewing the data. "You've demonstrated remarkable adaptability and clear-headed thinking under pressure."

Athrun stepped forward, his expression thoughtful. "I agree. Your technical background combined with these test results make you a unique asset to the MSKT. However, the real test will come in actual combat situations."

Haru stood, his posture straight and confident. "I'm ready for whatever challenges lie ahead, sir. I want to do my part in protecting both Coordinators and Naturals from the Kaiju threat."

As they discussed the next steps in Haru's training, an alarm blared through the Minerva. Captain Gladys's voice came over the intercom, urgent and clear.

"All hands to battle stations. We've received reports of a Kaiju attack on a nearby coastal town. MSKT members, prepare for immediate deployment."

...

In the peaceful coastal town of Seaside Haven, the tranquil night was shattered by a deafening roar. Eleking, the monstrous eel-like Kaiju, emerged from the shadows, its white and black mottled skin glistening under the moonlight. The creature's antennae crackled with electric energy, casting an eerie blue glow across the frightened faces of the townspeople.

As Eleking lumbered down the main street, its massive form dwarfed the surrounding buildings. The ground trembled with each step, and windows rattled in their frames. Suddenly, a bolt of electricity shot from its antennae, striking a nearby power transformer. The explosion lit up the night sky, showering sparks onto the panicked crowd below.

People scattered in all directions, their screams piercing the air. A young mother clutched her child to her chest as she ran, tears streaming down her face. An elderly couple hobbled as fast as they could, supporting each other as they sought shelter. A group of teenagers abandoned their bicycles, sprinting towards the hills that overlooked the town.

Eleking's tail whipped through the air, smashing into a row of parked cars. The vehicles crumpled like tin cans, alarms blaring in a cacophony of fear and destruction. Another arc of electricity lashed out, this time striking a small office building. The structure's windows exploded outward, raining shards of glass onto the fleeing pedestrians below.

In the chaos, a brave police officer attempted to direct traffic, desperately trying to clear a path for evacuation. His voice was barely audible over the din of honking horns and screeching tires. Drivers abandoned their vehicles, choosing to flee on foot rather than risk being trapped in the gridlock.

Eleking continued its rampage, seemingly drawn to sources of electricity. It approached the town's power plant, its eyes glowing with an otherworldly hunger. The workers inside scrambled to shut down the facility, knowing that if the Kaiju reached it, the resulting explosion could level half the town.

As the monster neared the plant, a group of local firefighters arrived on the scene. They bravely turned their hoses on Eleking, hoping to slow its advance. The water seemed to agitate the creature, causing it to thrash and roar in anger. It retaliated with another burst of electricity, forcing the firefighters to retreat.

The town's sirens wailed, their haunting sound mixing with the cries of the fleeing populace. In the distance, the first responders could hear the approach of military vehicles, but they knew help might arrive too late to save their beloved town from Eleking's destructive power.

In the Minerva's briefing room, tension hung thick in the air as the crew gathered around the large display screen. Captain Talia Gladys stood at the front, her face grim as she played footage of the monstrous Eleking wreaking havoc on Seaside Haven. The room fell silent, save for the occasional gasp or muttered curse as they watched the destruction unfold.

Athrun Zala's jaw clenched, his eyes narrowing as he analyzed the Kaiju's movements and abilities. His mind raced, already formulating potential strategies to combat this new threat. Beside him, Shinn Asuka's fists clenched at his sides, his body trembling with a mix of anger and anticipation. The young pilot's eyes blazed with determination, eager to prove himself against this formidable opponent.

Luna Hawke leaned forward, her brow furrowed in concentration as she studied the creature's electrical attacks. Her analytical mind worked overtime, trying to understand the Kaiju's weaknesses. Next to her, her sister Meyrin watched with wide-eyed horror, her hand covering her mouth to stifle a cry of dismay.

Rey Za Burrel remained stoic, his face an impassive mask as he observed the footage. Only the slight tightening of his shoulders betrayed his inner tension. Arthur Trine, standing near Captain Gladys, shook his head in disbelief, muttering under his breath about the unprecedented nature of these attacks.

Haru Yasu stood at the back of the room, his eyes darting between the screen and his crewmates' reactions. He felt a familiar tug in his chest, the urge to transform and help growing stronger with each passing moment.

As the footage ended, Luna broke the heavy silence. "What's the name of this Kaiju? Do we have any information on it?"

Before anyone could respond, Haru felt a sudden surge of information flooding his mind. Images and data flashed before his eyes, courtesy of the UltraRiser. Without thinking, he spoke up, his voice clear and confident.

"It's called Eleking," Haru said, drawing everyone's attention. "The Space Monster: Eleking."

All eyes in the room turned to Haru, expressions ranging from surprise to curiosity. Captain Gladys raised an eyebrow, her gaze sharp as she regarded the young technician.

"How do you know that, Haru?" Athrun asked, his tone a mix of interest and suspicion.

Haru's mind raced, searching for a plausible explanation. "I, uh, overheard some civilians talking about it when we were docked," he said, trying to sound casual. "They seemed pretty convinced about the name. I thought it sounded cool, so it stuck with me."

The crew exchanged glances, but no one questioned Haru's explanation further. Captain Talia nodded, accepting the information. "Very well. We'll refer to this Kaiju as Eleking for now."

With the creature named, the atmosphere in the room shifted from shock to determination. Captain Talia stepped forward, her voice steady and authoritative. "We need a plan to stop Eleking before it causes more destruction. Athrun, as our FAITH member and MSKT coordinator, I want you to lead this operation."

Athrun straightened, his green eyes focused and alert. "Yes, Captain. Given Eleking's electrical abilities, we'll need to approach this carefully." He turned to the display, pointing out key areas of the town. "We should focus on evacuating civilians first, then draw Eleking away from populated areas."

As Athrun outlined his strategy, the rest of the crew listened intently. Shinn and Luna would provide aerial support, using their mobile suits to distract Eleking and lure it towards a less populated area. Rey would coordinate with local authorities to ensure a swift evacuation. The Minerva would provide long-range support and act as a mobile command center.

As the briefing continued, Haru felt a surge of determination. He stepped forward, his voice steady despite the nerves fluttering in his stomach. "I want to join as a pilot," he announced, drawing surprised looks from the crew.

Athrun turned to Haru, his expression a mix of concern and hesitation. "Haru, I appreciate your enthusiasm, but piloting in a Kaiju battle is extremely dangerous. You haven't completed your training yet."

Haru stood his ground, meeting Athrun's gaze. "I know the risks, Athrun. But I've been working on mobile suits for years. I understand their systems better than most pilots. And my test results were promising, weren't they?"

Captain Talia interjected, her tone measured. "Haru's right. His aptitude tests were impressive. Dr. Chen's report indicates he has potential."

Athrun frowned, still unconvinced. "Potential is one thing, but actual combat experience is another. This isn't a simulation, Haru. One wrong move could cost lives."

Haru took a deep breath, his resolve unwavering. "I understand that. But every pilot had to start somewhere, right? And with the Kaiju threat growing, you need all the help you can get. I'm not asking to lead the charge. I can provide support, maybe help with evacuations. Please, give me a chance to prove myself."

The room fell silent as Athrun considered Haru's words. He glanced at Captain Talia, who gave a subtle nod, leaving the decision in his hands.

Finally, Athrun sighed, his shoulders relaxing slightly. "Alright, Haru. You can join us, but in a support role only. You'll be paired with Luna. Follow her lead and don't take any unnecessary risks. If at any point I feel you're in over your head, I'll order you back to the Minerva. Understood?"

Haru's face lit up with a mixture of relief and excitement. He nodded vigorously. "Understood, Athrun. Thank you. I won't let you down."

...

The hangar of the Minerva buzzed with activity as the crew prepared for launch. Technicians scurried about, performing last-minute checks on the mobile suits while pilots donned their flight suits. The air was thick with tension and anticipation.

Athrun Zala stood out in his purple pilot suit, a stark contrast to the red suits worn by Shinn and Luna. Rey's white suit gleamed under the hangar lights, while Haru adjusted the unfamiliar green suit, still getting used to the feel of it against his skin.

Meyrin's voice crackled over the intercom, "All pilots, prepare for launch sequence. Luna Hawke, Gunner ZAKU Warrior, you're up first."

Luna took a deep breath, her red hair brushing against her collar as she climbed into the cockpit of her Red Gunner ZAKU. She settled into the seat, her fingers dancing over the controls as she ran through her pre-flight checklist.

"Luna Hawke, Gunner ZAKU Warrior, ready for launch," she announced, her voice steady despite the adrenaline coursing through her veins.

"Roger that, Luna," Meyrin responded. "Catapult deck is clear. You are go for launch."

Luna gripped the controls tightly. "Luna Hawke, Gunner ZAKU Warrior, launching!"

The catapult engaged, and Luna's ZAKU shot forward, the g-forces pressing her back into her seat as she was propelled into the sky.

Meyrin's voice came through again, "Rey Za Burrel, ZAKU Phantom, you're next."

Rey, his face a mask of calm determination, maneuvered his white ZAKU Phantom into position. "Rey Za Burrel, ZAKU Phantom, ready to launch."

"Catapult deck clear. You have permission to launch, Rey."

Without a word, Rey engaged his thrusters, his ZAKU Phantom streaking out of the hangar to join Luna in the air.

"Shinn Asuka, prepare Core Splendor for launch," Meyrin announced.

Shinn, his red eyes gleaming with anticipation, settled into the compact cockpit of the Core Splendor. "Shinn Asuka, Core Splendor, ready to go!"

"Catapult deck is clear, Shinn. You're cleared for launch."

"Shinn Asuka, Core Splendor, launching!" Shinn called out as the small fighter jet shot forward, quickly followed by the Chest Flyer, Leg Flyer, and Blast Silhouette.

Next up was Athrun, his emerald eyes focused as he prepared the Saviour for launch. "Athrun Zala, Saviour, standing by for launch."

"Roger that, Athrun," Meyrin confirmed. "Catapult deck is clear. You're go for launch."

Athrun took a deep breath. "Athrun Zala, Saviour, taking off!" The Saviour's powerful engines roared to life as it shot out of the hangar, transforming mid-flight into its mobile armor mode.

Finally, it was Haru's turn. He felt a mix of nervousness and excitement as he settled into the cockpit of his green ZAKU Warrior. This was it, his first real sortie as a mobile suit pilot.

"Haru Yasu, ZAKU Warrior, ready for launch," he announced, proud that his voice didn't betray his nerves.

"Understood, Haru," Meyrin replied. "Catapult deck is clear. You are cleared for launch. Good luck out there."

Haru gripped the controls, his heart pounding in his chest. "Haru Yasu, ZAKU Warrior, launching!"

The catapult engaged, and Haru felt the rush of acceleration as his ZAKU Warrior was propelled out of the hangar. For a brief moment, he was overwhelmed by the sensation of flight, the vast sky opening up before him. Then his training kicked in, and he steadied the mobile suit, joining formation with the others.

As the five mobile suits soared towards Seaside Haven, the gravity of their mission settled over them. The Kaiju Eleking awaited, and the fate of countless civilians rested in their hands.
