Sliders S01E01 - Pilot FULL REACTION

Comments

Forgive commenting on an old reaction; I love Sliders and couldn't resist watching it. But I especially had to laugh at Shan laughing about "Vinyl would never stay!" 🤣 Who could have guessed 2 years ago, much less 6 that Vinyl would make any kind of resurgence?

Stargazer1682

most people to varying degrees think seasons 4 and 5 were less good to awful.

Black Hawk

and star-gate sg-1

Nisseem Froehlich

all 4 could be argued that they were stereotyped of there race, gender, geek, professor.

Nisseem Froehlich

now there is a dozen copy cat judge shows. The judge in these shows are legal arbitrators.

Nisseem Froehlich

Like a simpler(neither better or worse) star gate type show that I liked both. This was my first show which I tried as a kid to watch week by week during the season. Also he needed Schrödinger'smonkey explorers to go through portals was needed.

Nisseem Froehlich

why the graphics or season 4/5 .

Nisseem Froehlich

I liked Rembrandt. I think 4 sliders was a good size group. Three would seem small.

Nisseem Froehlich

Love this show, I don't like Rembrandt, he's such a token (and I am saying this as a black woman) He has no purpose other than adding some color to the show which is completely unnecessary. Should've just been focused on Quinn and the rest.

LittleMouseSaysWhat

Isn't that the fat kid from Stand By Me

Talon Karrde

my sister got my hook on this but here in the uk they only show up to season 3.

Emma goldsbrough

Pretty good... a little like Quantom Leap.

Tammy L. Faulkner

I have my first seasons signed by Gimli himself. Loved this series

Scott Rabie

i used to watch this, never seen the pilot though

Daveangels

Sliders!!! Lol i haven't watched this in SO long!

Sarah L

So much promise, ruined later by network execs. I have the entire series on DVD. I loved the first season and the second season. After that, it sort of went downhill. This was a great premise, with great characters (except Remy, who in the beginning was a stereotype black man, but really grew throughout the series). Network suits ruined it.

James Miller

Thanks both Jason and Shan for this. I'm usually hesitant to try new shows, so this series give me nice opportunities :) The length of the episode had me worried a bit at first, but It was very entertaining throughout! Some scenes were nicely shot, and twists worked very well most of times! I loved that Wade's lover in the Communist universe immediately bought the real Wade's story. Usually shows get hung up on those points and waste time convincing them for a while. Slightly off topic, but when a guy was doing very Soviet-like public speech in the Communist universe, all I think was the Under-Miner from the Incredibles 2 XD

Ryuichi Yasuda

Well, that was a blast from the past. I loved this show when it first aired.

Lostmyshoe22

Heh. I watched the first couple of seasons in first run, but I remember nothing other than thinking, "Wow, so that's what Vern Tessio looks like now..." Commentary from the old American person: "Domino theory" was a widely held belief that if the Communists weren't contained, they would push over one country after another, like dominoes falling down, ending up with Soviet control of the world. It led to some questionable decisions of who to support in some parts of the world, but that was the theory behind it. If Vietnam fell, then Cambodia would fall, then India, etc, etc, until no democracies were left. So by God, we would support WHOEVER was fighting against the Communists. The idea that the USSR would collapse under its own weight was totally alien until very late in the '80s. Lenin was an early Soviet leader, instantly recognizable, just short of Stalin on the infamy level. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladimir_Lenin "The People's Court" was a real televised court show presided over by Judge Wapner, basically dealing with small claims, like, "He was supposed to pay me for mowing his lawn all summer" countered by "He never showed up to mow my lawn," with the judge deciding based on the merits. It was always considered a very cheesy show, and, while technically legal, a poor representation of the system, so the joke was that now Wapner, in his signature style, was sending people to the gulag instead of awarding a $200 judgment. The section where Rembrandt is up in front of the wall giving his reaction was part of that show, where the winner always said how great Judge Wapner was and the loser always said it wasn't fair. Oh, and the ribbons... they're still a thing, but in the 90s, those twisted ribbons were out for every single cause. It was a thing.

The Commies were a recurring big bad in the cold war season of planet earth. A slow burning plot and a main villain lacking the pizazz of the previous fan favourites was compensated for by raising the stakes to threaten a nuclear apocalypse. This was only averted in the finale when David Hasselhoff demolished their wall through the power of music.

MittenCrab

holy crap! i forgot gimli was in this.

UTU49

Yeah, you can just make a double-length pilot count as 2 pilots. That should work.

UTU49

And now you know about Sliders. :) Each episode gets to explore an alternate reality while reusing the cast. Its a fun idea for a TV show.

CaptainNice
