2025-10-16 13:34:06 +0000 UTCAbout the drugs: in ep1 it is stated that Xholding cooperates with HS holding to develop the drug, hence why SSY ran to HS to try a buyout of HS shares. since HY always intended to give the drug to SSYs father he needed to cooperate with HS otherwise they cannot give away the drug legally across borders I assume. Xholding is based in country P and HS is based in JiangHu, the country in which this main story happens. So it’s logical that SSY begs Hua Yongs secretary but also logical that Shen Wen Lang as a partner in this project also has the say about giving out the drug. HY has other plans/crimes in mind that’s why he gave SWL the authority about the drug (at least nominally only for SSY to see)

2025-10-11 08:11:44 +0000 UTCI watched up to ep8 on my own, enjoyed Hua Yongs antics (crimes) pretty much and started watching some reactions. Many reactors are like you (confused about his motives and actions) so I gather that the storytelling quality must be pretty bad and didn’t manage to convey a main character’s view. For me and some other Asian audience it is pretty clear though. HY is strategic ruthless cunning but he is not omnipotent and can not read minds. That’s why in ep 5 when he needed an excuse to be absent for his rut he spontaneously came up with the plan to pretend to be assaulted because he wasn’t sure if SSY ordered his secretary to plant the bug or not, also HY at that time assumed that SSY went away to spend his rut this another omega, he was pissed. In ep 6 he once again believes falsely that SSY spent another rut with other omega so he overdosed himself with modifier drug to test whether SSY cares for him. In ep 7 HY is once again insecure about SSYs feelings because of the fake girlfriend incident which he saw on the cctv. In ep 8 SWL provoked him again about the girlfriend situation so he carried out the plan to induce heat publicly (plan probably formed already after cctv watching). HYs secretary stated that the targeted drug just finished formula and they needed 2 more days to be able to admit drug to people so while stalling time for this 2 days HY decided to test again how far SSY would go to get it. SSY is prideful and dominant and never explains himself properly so HY is always guessing (wrongly) and constantly testing him. For me there is always an explanation for his manipulations but that’s of course not an excuse for the atrocities. Still love the character though and their couple dynamics. The biggest mistake from this adaptation is that SSY is less of an asshole than in the book while keeping all of HYs wickedness so it feels very unbalanced for many viewers.
