Garrett saved Ward from being locked away and teached him how to be self sufficient, but he also controlled him by using macho BS, making Ward think any kind of positive feeling for others was weak, and twisted him into the damaged violent sociopath we see today

But during his mission when he was critically wounded and needed an evacuation he got no response from them, and they never came looking for him. I don’t agree with him but I understand how that could turn you against the system you used to fight for.
