2019-08-07 04:02:11 +0000 UTCThe writer/producer Steven Moffat is one of the best writers in the UK. In my opinion he was responsible for bringing Dr. Who back into the mainstream. He makes characters that you enjoy watching even when when they are being crazy. Things are never what they seem in Moffat's world.

He also did the memorable teen drama 'Press Gang', 'Sherlock (Cumberbatch)', 'Jekyll' and later seasons of Dr Who....P.S. it was filmed in front of a 'live' studio audience; hence the laughter!

Coupling was initially marketed as a kind of British Friends, although the more you see of it the less similar it seems. It passes my personal sniff test for a comedy by having laugh out loud moments I still remember decades later. MittenCrab Britsplaining: A Tory is a member or supporter of the British Conservative Party, roughly equivalent to the US Republicans or Australian Liberal Party. Angus Deayton and Mariella Frostrup were/are real-life presenters on the BBC and were famous enough that most viewers would have been expected to recognise them. Sarah Alexander, who plays blonde, winsome boob-flasher Susan, is in real-life married to the tall, blue clad star of one of your other recent pilot reactions.

2019-08-04 03:09:57 +0000 UTCI also love Coupling. Although it was popular, they only made 28 episodes total over 4 seasons. I seem to remember it getting a lot of attention in the US when it was shown here. A pilot for a US version was made and aired but was not picked up.

You were a bit unlucky in the the second episode has a huge amount of 'Britishisms' - celebrities (the two people at the end are TV presenters Angus Deayton and Mariella Frostrup) , politics and so on. The rest of the series does have a few of those but in a far lower dosage.
