R.E. Why Kevin can't read it, remember at the very beginning of him becoming a Prophet the plan is supposed to be that the Angels take a prophet out to the desert and help him train to read the text, or write down new text. He doesn't automatically have the knowledge, there is a training and time involved period. He's supposed to medidate on it in a private place, like the desert. It was always implied that it would take a lot of time, not come instant.
