I remember this well as a part of Animaniacs. Their own show, I thought was not as good but the 2 characters are still funny. Oh and your question about the fat lady singing. In opera, there's a old saying that goes "it's not over til the fat lady sings." So a fat lady singing is symbolic of something being over, or the end.

He thought it would be better if cartoons had full animation instead of Hanna-Barbera style limited animation, and instead of canned sound effects, use a full orchestra, 1993 he produced Animaniacs. Pinky and the Brain was one of the segments, it got a series... so, btw, in addition to everything else, Spielberg started the trend of spending money on TV cartoons.
