i also disagree fillers are some my favorite episodes. yeah they may be dealing with just a random ghost or monster but sometimes they are the funniest or have great character moments. I think it's just some stories are better suited for fillers like SPN, Buffy, Superhero shows, where others like say Stranger Things are better suited for a shorter more serial story arc based story.

Spreading the main story line and throwing "fillers" into the mix is the only way to keep a season going with 20+ episodes. Without the "fillers" it would be a 10-12 episode season. Putting a "filler" between main story episodes is telling the audience the main storyline is not easy to end and they're going to have to spread it to put time in between to make it more suspenseful.
