Stargate SG-1 S02E15 - The Fifth Race FULL REACTION

One of the great things about Stargate is the continuity, I've rarely seen another show do it on SG's level. Things that get resolved later, small things that get expanded on seasons later, some that pay off not just in future seasons but also in other shows. You'll be able to see some things and point out in which episode it started. It's really impressive. In this case, you have the Asgard (obvi) and the confirmation that the Goa'ulds are not the gate builders but a call back to the meeting place from 1x11. Also, there are 9 chevrons on a gate. This is the first time we use the 8th chevron, and it takes you to another freaking galaxy (which takes a shit ton of power), makes you wonder what the 9th chevron does. The 10% of brain capacity thing is actually a myth. Forgive me if I copy here a bit from the wiki (cause I'm tired and I can't be bothered today lol) : "Brain function imaging techniques show no large unused portions of the brain in humans or any other known organism. Such an arrangement would be highly inefficient: even the "unused" portions would still consume energy, otherwise those cells would promptly die off, and since the brain accounts for some 20% of the body's energy consumption, if the 10% myth were true then 18% of the body's energy expenditure would go to waste. Such a structure would be naturally selected against." Anyway, this is one of my favorite episode and it's such an important one for the Gateverse lore :)

Poor Teryl Rothery... First she's always losing cases on Arrow for the Queen family, now Shan questioning her medical opinions

1.I love this episode for some of the reasons given here. That it might open the door to a larger universe and show how much we haven't discovered yet. 2. I never noticed that about the close-ups until you mentioned it, and you were absolutely right about that. Most seemed very unnecessary.

OMG Jack got turned into the Intercept, someone call Chuck.

Patrick - Excelsior

Love this episode opens up so much potential, extra gates with the possibility of other galaxies not to mention the future inclusion of humans in the asgard club... very cool.

Jack just forgot the ancient knowledge from the device. He remembers everything that the Asgards told him.

Of all the alien, not-quite-Latin words Daniel might have to look up, I find it hard to believe it would be 'locus'. It's a Latin word that's exactly the same in English.

In the opening scene where Jack was grabbed by that wall device, It downloaded a large amount of data in a compressed form. Like a zip file. This what the Asgard called the Archive of the ancients knowledge. Human brains in SG1 don't have the memory capacity to store all of the knowledge in uncompressed form, although Jacks brain could still function good enough to help Carter and get him to the Asgard. When the Asgard extracted the data, It was the download they extracted not his normal memories.
