Lea Thompson directed this episode. She previously starred in the classic film, Back to the Future. To honor that, the crew built a replica of Roy's Records one of the shops seen in the classic Robert Zemeckis film.
The city Barbara says she's going to visit is Oakville, a city first mentioned in All-American Comics #1.
When Henry King Jr. is looking at his math test, there is an equation 3X2(9YZ)4A. That formula was first seen in More Fun Comics #71 where it was used by Johnny Quick to tap into superspeed powers. “I’m doing a math test, so I’m putting the Speed Formula in here! So it’s in there at number 3 on the test, as part of a longer question” graphic designer Shawn McBee explained on the Stargirl Aftershow Podcast.
While Pat is leading the Justice Society to his bargain-basement training simulator, a familiar green car can be seen in the background. The vehicle is a dead ringer for the one Superman is holding on the cover of Action Comics #1
The name of the team BVHS plays against, the "Civic City Atoms" is an allusion to the Atom, a founding member of the Justice Society. In fact, Al Pratt’s name can be seen on a jersey worn by one of the Civic City Atoms. One of the pep rally posters calls upon the Prairie Dogs to “smash those Atoms!” This is an homage to Atom Smasher, godson to the original Atom. Some of the jerseys from the game have the names of Stargirl crew members, including Beeman, named after executive producer Greg Beeman.
Several scenes from "Shiv Part One" can be seen in the comic series, as the crew took inspiration from how those fight sequences or everyday scenes unfolded.

I don't feel that hearing a random person outside the room they were in calling out a name alone would be enough to give her away. There were thousands at that game. There would be no reason to know that the person calling out was looking for the person you were fighting. He wasn't in the room with her when he said Courtney. If he had there would have been no reason to call for her. He would have seen her and the villain in the room.
Far more likely to recognize her face. As she said, that mask isn't really hiding anything.

I gotta be honest, if they just revealed that Cindy had a rough home life and that was the reason she's such a bitch, I would've been really frustrated. Not that that's not a reasonable backstory for a character, it's just so obvious and cliched at this point. But I can appreciate that, here, it's not that straightforward. She's still a bitch even at home, but it's a... strange home, to say the least. Her relationship with her father doesn't seem as cut and dry as one might expect. There's love there, but just... strange love.

The Courtney-Cameron thing should've been built up a bit more over the episodes. All we really got was that one episode and not very much of it.

Sportsmaster is the best fighter in this universe? Wow, this really is an alternate Earth. I mean, don't get me wrong, Young Justice sure made him a badass. But that's a pretty big title to give to a character who started out as a nobody, in a universe that had Batman, Black Canary, Lady Shiva, Deathstroke, Bronze Tiger, and Richard Dragon.

Courtney and Cindy made plans. It was rude that Court just ditched them for a boy. I'd be upset too!!!
Not enough to go suit up in some dungeon and try to murder someone, but then again, my dad didn't experiment on me for years......I can understand why Cindy is the way she is.

Love the villains on this show. Not just because they're fun but also because they're complex. Cindy may be totally evil but once you understand her background you can feel some empathy for her situation. Icicle seems like a great dad but at the same time he's. the heard of the ISA, is brewing up some kind of nefarious scheme and killed a kid just a few episodes ago. And the Crocks...they love their daughter more than anything, so much in fact that they murdered the coach who benched her. What I'm saying is that all these characters have many facets that make them great and that's a big reason why this show is so good, antagonists that are actually interesting and not just one-note baddies.

Was mike referencing Dexstar the red lantern cat with his comment about the old lady and her hell beast cat?
