Stargirl S01E11 - Shining Knight FULL REACTION

Comments

For more with Sir Justin the Shining Knight do a re-watch of Justice League Unlimited Season 3 Episode 7: "Patriot Act".

David Brown

This episode is really making me wonder, why isn't Brainwave the leader of the ISA? He seems more powerful than any of them, even Icicle. He has the clarity to do whatever it takes. I mean, he friggin' killed his entire family. Just sayin'...

As a long time fan of superheroes with a fondness for the lesser known ones, you would think that the confirmation of Justin as the Shining Knight and the revelation to the rest of the characters of his identity would be the part I most remember from this episode. Nope. Completely forgot that even happened this episode. The episode NAMED for that happening in fact. It's Courtney's relationship with her father, her crisis of self-confidence, and her finally claiming her power as her own, and not just because she's supposedly related to someone else that I remember. It's a credit to the show and it's writers that I actually remember and care about those things. And she NEEDED this too. It's not enough to live life just because of what your parents did. You have to claim your own life and your own choices. Courtney thought she was Stargirl only based on who she thought her father was. She needed to be Stargirl because of who she is, instead. And the scene where she claims her power is another magnificent one. They know how to make a good scene in this show!

I wouldn't say it would be great for her if he hadn't come back. She needed to give up on the idea that Starman was her father so she could take the power for her own. Sometimes the most painful things in life are the most beneficial to use. Learning the truth about her father hurts, but it's what she needed.

I love this episode, I've been waiting to find out more about the janitor since the pilot episode, so I was glad to learn more about who he is. I never really liked the idea or believed that it was likely that Starman was Courtney's dad, so I was glad we found out officially that Starman was not her dad. Although her dad is terrible and it would have been great for Courtney if he hadn't come back. Also, I loved everything with Pat and Courtney in this episode, also the moment when Courtney stood up with her staff and Justin's comment "our queen has risen". Great episode.

Jeremy Burch

There's so much to love about this episode: Pat sticking up for Courtney, the hug, Barbara being supportive of Cortney even though she's terrified for her safety, Justin starting to really remember who he is, the other kids not accepting Courtney's decision to give up. It's all so good and really illustrates just how much all of these characters have changed since to start of the season.

i love this episode. i had really hated the "starman is my dad" storyline and i felt it was dragged out to long but the way they handled it here was really well done.
