The Daniel / Margaux and Daniel / Sarah situations are different though. Daniel and Margaux were never a thing. Daniel did love Sarah though and it wasn't his choice to break up with her. His parents forced him to break up with her. That's not a good excuse for the real world but it does work for tv logic.
