Stealing the car wasn't the point. The point was their father favored Luke over Stryker. He never gave him his last name because he was embarrassed of him. And when it came time to sentence them, rather then stand by both his children, their father made sure Luke got the easy sentencing and left Stryker to rot. And practically abandoned his mother after he went away because there was no reason to keep her around because Stryker was in prison. Regardless of BOTH of them stealing the car, their father showed his true colors and abandoned Stryker and his mother without a second thought because he favored his "miracle child" over him.

In the reaction you asked why he called him by his first name- probably to get the joke in by the writers.
