Black Lightning S04E12 - The Book Of Resurrection: Chapter One: Crossroads FULL REACTION

Comments

Almost forgot, Khalil is probably the best part of the show. If I was given the choice between another season of Black Lightning or the Painkiller spinoff, I think I would choose the spinoff.

I think I agree with the comment above in that I would rank the seasons in the order that they came out. I think what I found most interesting about the show going into it was the family aspect. None of the other Arrowverse shows have heroes with children (in the present), so I thought it helped make this show have a different dynamic. I also liked having Jefferson as a principal of the school. Having him as a respected figure and using that to try to solve problems was something I enjoyed seeing, although that did drop off in the later seasons. One of the problems I had with the show was unnecessary side plots. Specifically, the whole Lala storyline. It always felt random, with me asking why it's relevant. The storyline hardly ever intersected with any of the main characters and not to any essential level. They should have left Lala for dead in season 1 or actually made it more relevant. Another big problem I had with the show was the pacing of some stories. Some things felt dragged out or were just touched upon once every couple episodes while some things felt like we missed out on some information. Grace’s storyline started very slow I think it was one of worse parts of season 2. Season 3 had the issue of feeling like we missed a few episodes at the start of the season with a lot of the occupation situation being unclear for a while. On another note, all the villain storylines are really the same. Someone who wants to control metas. That applies to all the main villains we’ve had on the show. The other Arrowverse shows might not always have amazing villains, but at least they have some different motives amongst them. Overall, I feel like this show was fine, but it’s probably my least favorite Arrowverse show.

My favorite season of Black Lightening is Season 1. with S2 being my second fav, 3rd is 3rd and so forth. I do like the show but I feel it lost its way as it went. As for my favorite character. I liked just about all of them at one point or another. Kahlil gets most improved as he dominated in the last 2 seasons. But overall my favorite has to be Gambi. He, IMO, is one of the most badass "guy in the chair" characters I've seen on a CW show and maybe any superhero show. He designs all the heroes suits and equipment, directs forces from a hideout that he created, and when needed he goes out in the field he spies on targets, collects intel, sets traps for the enemy, sabotages their resources, and when needed can even take them out. He had a good back story with a nice redemption arc story line. I've seen other support characters on other shows do some of these things but not all. He is Felicity, Alfred, Micro, Oracle, Gideon, Jarvis, and Henry Pym all wrapped up in one guy (with a little 007 mixed in as well).

I agree. It was kind of weak for a penultimate ep. But I think they shot themselves in the foot with the direction they've been going that started with the beginning of season 3. It feels like they are trying to end this season and not the whole series. I think this show has been my least favorite in the Arrowverse. It had potential, if they stayed the course and kept continuity going between the seasons. But they just went too far off the rails. I think if it weren't for your reactions and it being part of the universe it's in, I would have given up awhile ago. But now that we're here, I am curious to see how the finale will turn out. See you next week!
