They finally made the band sound good for once. Although a trumpet player would not be standing next to a clarinet player, but I'll take it since they don't sound terrible.

I suppose they could've been surprised that they were doing so well. But as they got closer and closer to the championship, the possibility of them making it in should have been something he should have started considering.

I don't think it's right to expect your friend to miss out on an important event for a group/club/hobby so they can go to your important event. Lucas valued basketball over dnd, so he went to the basketball game and that's fine. Mike and Dustin tried seeing if the game could be moved and it couldn't. I think it's nice for someone to go to an important event for one of their friends if they aren't busy, but if they are busy, one should respect that their friends also have their own interests and responsibilities. Besides this is something they should have talked about ages ago. It's not like they typically "surprise we have a championship tomorrow" or "surprise we have a dnd game tomorrow". I imagine the schedule for the basketball season is available at the start of the season, so Lucas should've known that it could conflict with the dnd campaign, which probably has a consistent schedule. This isn't something they should barely be discussing the day before the championship.

Everything else after including Placebo's version they were covers. Kate Bush did the original, keep in mind this was the 80's.
