The book is very different - a lot more references, and each key was completely different. For example in the book he gets the extra life quarter for playing a perfect game of Pacman, not from a bet. The book is excellent for all the 70's and 80's nostalgia, but I also really enjoy the movie version too.

2022-11-02 15:59:39 +0000 UTCNot sure if you noticed that Simon Pegg, who was the main actor in Hot Fuzz, also played Ogden in this movie. Anyway, yeah this one is a lot of fun and soo many references. But it's rare that a movie can have this many easter eggs but still have a good story and be a good movie on its own and they accomplished that.

I've read that certain changes were made from the source material to lessen the reverences to Steven Spielberg as that would come across a bit self serving. I am unable to confirm this however as I have never read the big. It's also worth mentioning that Alan Silvestri who did the score for the Back to the Future films also did the score for this movie.. making the Back to the Future nods in the music extra special.
