Person Of Interest S02E12 - Prisoner's Dilemma FULL REACTION

Comments

I really love these episodes in the middle of S2. The show firing on all cylinders right now. This week's episode is outstanding, and I love the conversations between Carter and John. It's fantastic writing, because they actually connect with each other while not giving away anything that could prove him being guilty. A fitting end for Donnelly. I was sad to see him go, but it was a good twist and a nice way for him to go out. Definitely top 3 episodes of the show till now. Great reaction, looking forward to more.

Carter and Donnelly are using an age old interrogation technique: isolate the prisoners from each other and bate them with a deal for the first one who flips on the rest. The selfish move is to flip (but if you're not the only one to flip, you're screwed!). The loyal/cooperative move is to keep quiet, until everyone is let go for lack of evidence. This is the prototype for a setup that occurs so often in (trigger warning! :-)) philosophy/economics/math that it has been given the name the Prisoner's Dilemma. While humans can reason about what to do in such a situation with common sense, figuring out how to teach the right strategy to computers has taken some academic work. The episode title is a subtle nod to this idea. I guess the show runners like them a bit of math too. ;-) BTW, I didn't realize this until I checked the credits, but the supermodel that Fusco is rescuing is played by herself, the real life supermodel Karolina Kurkova. I'm sure there's a funny story behind that casting!

Enrico Colantoni is always brilliant

The Fusco stuff was very clever story telling, they just give you enough that allows to you use your own imagination to fill in the blanks. Enrico Colantoni is just brilliant as Elias, every time he's on the screen you just want to sit up and take notice.

Even though it is usually played for laughs, I love any episode that shows Fusco being genuinely good at his job. Harold and John often make fun of him, but they are also giving him more and more responsibility as the series goes on. Despite it being a D plot, Harold basically trusted him to handle this case of the week on his own.

Second_Strike

RIP Donnelly, he caught John twice in 3 episodes and didn't live to get the credit. I really like this episode it gave us a bit of everything including an adorable subplot in which Fusco saves and kisses a model.
