Time for some Fun Facts: The End of the World was director Euros Lyn's first work on the series, he is also known for directing DareDevil, Sherlock, Black Mirror and others, at the time of broadcast, it featured the most extensive use of CGI ever seen on Doctor Who.
Russell T Davies, who created Cassandra, has said on many occasions that he was inspired to create Cassandra upon viewing skinny Hollywood actresses at the Academy Awards. On 2 April 2006, the Sunday Mirror quoted Davies: "It was horrific seeing those beautiful women reduced to sticks. Nicole Kidman struck me in particular.“
In one scene Rose says, "Wait, hold on. They did this once on Newsround Extra". Newsround is a news programme on BBC1 and CBBC aimed at providing news for children. Newsround Extra is an extended version of this concept which concentrates on a single issue or subject. A Newsround reporter was on set watching as this scene was filmed.
The scene between Rose and Raffalo was a late addition, added because the episode was underrunning.
This is the first time the Doctor has actually been seen to shed a tear on-screen.
Rose gets called a prostitute in this episode and Billie Piper would later star in Secret Diary of a Call Girl.
The final scene was originally going to take place in Piccadilly Circus but Russell T Davies changed this to an unspecified street in Cardiff in order to avoid an extra trip to London. He ultimately preferred the anonymity of the setting.
One issue confronting Euros Lyn was the lack of short-statured actors to play the Platform One staff, since many such artistes had been hired for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which was also in production. It was finally agreed to cast children instead, some of whom were relatives of dialogue editor Paul McFadden.

First time in the TARDIS, let's go see the end of the Earth, how fun?
I like that moment with Rose realizing she just ran off with someone she doesn't know in the slightest, to travel through space and time...well, time to panic a little or maybe a lot.
I did like this episode, the show hadn't completely sold me yet when I was first watching this, but I did think the episode had some interesting ideas and had some serious moments I kind of liked, including learning that the Doctor is the last of his people.

And we are back!
Unlike the first episode, this one is all original. No classic characters or monsters. It was stated later that the goal of this first season was to convince former and new fans alike that this was a legitimate continuation of Dr. Who, so showing they could do both classic and new monsters and aliens was important.
This episode is still a bit goofy, but has some more serious themes. Prejudice and existential dread with a villain that is compared to a trampoline and screams for moisterizer! Welcome to the dichotomy that is Dr. Who. And also nails that same feeling in the classic show.
The revelations in this episode about the war and him people the last of his people is all new. The last time Dr. Who was on the air, the Time Lords were alive and well and there was no war.
Which I now think is kinda brilliant? It puts the new and old fans on an even playing field as none of them now know what is going on, and the Doctor's backstory is now shrouded in mystery. Everything the classic fans thought they knew is now thrown out the window as it no longer applies. It resets the show without actually resetting anything.

I always thought this was an awesome destination for the 2nd episode. Last week we were present day Earth, today we're last day of Earth. Rose's reaction to such a perspective shift was very believable. Panic-attack in the "what the hell have I done" sort of way for running off with a stranger. At least she can call her mom anytime. Nokia's, is there anything they can't do? :)

FUCK. Blake Neely, he's one of the reasons many edits have to be re-edited. :P

Y'know, something I always appreciate about Doctor Who is that despite all the silliness, little robots killing people, sun-shields being turned off at the press of a single button, a bitchy trampoline, Doctor Who always has this very heartfelt core.
Rose having a whole existential crisis throughout the episode because she's directly confronted with the end of the earth and being face to "face" with the last of humanity is something that the show does actually treat seriously.
It shows how difficult it would be to wrap your mind around these things once they aren't such distant concepts anymore.
Y'know it could very well be that the reason why the Doctor brought Rose to see the end of earth was so that he wouldn't be alone in sharing that pain anymore, which is why he waited to tell Rose about the death of his planet until after she witnessed the death of earth.
Also I just have to bring it up now, but I will most likely do so again in the future: NuWho's main composer Murray Gold is an absolute master of his craft. There are so many different iconic musical themes in this show, and he is responsible for all of them.
He is to Doctor Who what Blake Neely is to the Arrowverse.

"You never consider the impossible, that you survive" out of all Doctor Who that's one of my favorite lines ever. Your reaction to Cassandra was great. Great reaction. I've always liked this ep.
