Half-jackets are in style?? ...What's the point of wearing them? They don't cover enough so they don't keep you warm ...They're too small meaning there's barely any functional pockets so you can't keep much in them ...Fashion is weird 3. As Vala stated ...They were shopping for HER. ...She wanted to integrate herself more into Earth culture ...One can assume that most if not all those bags the 2 of them were carrying contained clothes for Vala and they were on their way to her quarters when Mitchell stopped them (and perhaps Carter left HER. bags in her car) 4. You just saw this actor playing Vala's dad on another show you're watching? ....I had a somewhat similar-ish kinda connection thing going on ...Given you watched the episode and found out that Vala's dad is a con-man ....Coincidentally ..On the day you recorded 10x18 ...I edited an episode of Chuck ...In which Sarah has to team up with her con-man father ...Looks like we were both kinda dealing with episodes where a daughter had to deal with their con-man father 5. Ok since the most plausible explanation has most likely already been given ...You're asking why some of SG-1 is wearing blue when others are wearing green... Well my answer to that is ...Paintball fight ...This meeting was taken just before SG-1 stepped out for the evening and went to a paintball place ...Carter and Mitchell were in one team and Daniel and Vala in another ..Hence the different colours ...Then ofcourse there's Teal'c who is wearing his own colours ...But that's most likely cause regular sized paintball overalls probably don't fit him ....Which leads me to remember a time a big friend of mine had to wear a bunny costume cause he too was too big to wear the overalls 6. Not that I give a shit ...But... Landry just said that he's been thinking about trying to talk to his ex-wife ever since his daughter came to work at the SGC ....That must've been like 1.5 to 2 years ago now (in-universe) ....It took him THIS. long to think about this?? ....Again ..I don't care ...But still ...2 years!? 7. Y'know what's kinda rude? ....Vala has been living on Earth for the better part of a year (ever since she got back from the Ori galaxy) and is STILL. living on the base ...Yet Jasec has been here for 3 weeks and has his own apartment off-base ...The fuck does a girl need to do to get some nice living accomodations? 8. I meeeeeaaann... Organising bingo nights for the elderly (and charging them for it) ...Collecting money for a kidney for "some poor kid" ...Selling glitter shavings online (and pretending it's something called "stardust") ...I can't blame Jasec for doing any of it ...Mah dude is just trying to earn some extra cash ...I'd do the same if I had some clever way to get away with it ...It also reminds of that time my dad was planning on selling "holy water" (just tap water in a cheap bottle) to religious people ...Look.. If you can make money off of suckers ...My motto is ..Why not? ...And you're answer might be ..."Cause it's wrong?" ....Pssssh... Wrong shmong ...Like I said ..If I knew of a good idea and how to get away with it ....Easiest decision in my life (and it wouldn't be the first time either) 9. Some very meta conversation going on there ...Carter saying the stargate program isn't getting the funding it deserves ...Jasec asking why ...Bill: "Eureka!" ...Yup ..That's where the money went ..To fund the tv show Eureka ...Then Jasec is saying it's too bad since the stargate "program" (the show) has accomplished so much for this "network" (Syfy) of planets ..You'd think the decision makers (Syfy) would show it the respect it deserves 10. Beeteedubs... Since I'm aware this is more than likely already covered in the comments ...I'm merely noting it to also make note of the following ...That whole little conversation was a dig at the show getting cancelled ...While it is true that they learned of the cancellation of SG-1 during the production of 10x16 ...Joseph Mallozzi who wrote this episode (10x18) and had already pitched the concept ..Said he decided to add a few little subtle nudges into the story to basically take a little stab at Syfy 11. There was apparently another reference made to the cancellation in the first minute of the episode ...Mitchell was walking down the hall with Siler and said: "They cancelled it? I didn't even know a new season had started" ...This was apparently something Joseph Mallozzi had seen some people online say when they found out SG-1 was cancelled 12. Yip ...Can't blame Jasec ...And I'm quite impressed he managed to sell a bunch of packing peanuts by pretending they were some kind of virility enhancements ...Then again the client came off like a total idiot soooo ...Makes sense he was able to get away with it 13. HA! ..Kinda sad that this scene got nothing out of you ...But the scene where Teal'c goes and sees a play after he got some tickets from Jasec is hilarious to most people ...Apparently Joseph Mallozzi wrote it into the script FULLY expecting someone to tell him to take it out but nobody ever did ...And good thing too ..Cause it's funny seeing Teal'c be embarrassed as he finds out what kinda play he just stepped into and how he's sitting in the middle of the room and it'd be too awkward for him to leave 14. Was this a good episode? ...Eeeeehhh... It had some funny moments in it ...Was it COMPLETELY. misplaced? ABSOLUTELY. ...This is the kind of episode you'd have taking place in Season 9 ...NOT. when we're about to end the show ....Only 2 more to go Froots!

Even the director was asked about Daniel in the blue uniform and he said, While contractors can be authorized to wearing the Airforce Blues, they tended to avoid it to distinguish Jackson as a civilian. But wardrobe sometimes screws the pooch.

2024-08-24 21:23:58 +0000 UTCThe thing I've learned to accept with Stargate is, when they decide to do a comedy episode, they lean into the comedy hard and all logic takes a backseat. Like, this may be blasphemy, but I don't especially love the 200th episode. I think it's over the top. This episode was OTT too, but not quite to that level. I think a major failing for this episode is just dumb luck of it falling so close to the end of the series. All things considered, they probably had some version of this episode in the works before SyFy cancelled them and was too late to switch to something more substantial once they knew. The best they could do was modify some of the dialogue to throw not so subtle shade at the network (which I liked - because what are they going to do, fire them?). If this had come earlier in the season or if the series continued for another year, this would have just been a mid-level one-off, with a handful of humorous moment, that also added some backstory for Vala; and that's ok. I do feel it's a little off that Vala's father is even still around, given that she was taken as a host. This would suggest that she wasn't a host for very long, which is plausible. I guess I'm just used to the System Lords who held onto the same body for centuries. It does raise the question of whether Vala had been in contact with her dad since being freed of her goa'uld or if he was aware of what she went through. That would have been interesting to explore. The "Virginia Monologue" throw away line, and the payoff of Teal'c unwittingly attending the Vagina Monologues and his level of pure discomfort is fucking comedy gold though.

2024-08-24 02:32:23 +0000 UTCThis episode is just another ridiculous one to me, the more I look at it, the less sense it makes. Yeah, there are some good moments, but the writing is just terrible. Like, even beyond the awfulness that is Jacek and everyone telling Vala she needs to give him a chance (which as someone with shitty parents, I fucking loathe that shit). Why was Jacek allowed to live off base so soon? He was an alien who was KNOWN for making his living by running scams, so doesn’t that make him pretty much the last person the SGC would clear for that kind of living situation? And how, exactly, did Vala still have possessions from her childhood after being a host for a good chunk of her adult life? That makes literally NO SENSE. There are only 3 good things about this episode. Cam and Teal'c looking at the guy with distaste, Vala standing her ground against the man, and Sam and Vala girls’ night at the end. I'm sure it’s because Daniel lost his parents when he was young, and so has trouble with the idea that Vala would be so prepared to completely cut ties with a living parent who is at least nominally making an effort. But as a romantic interest for Vala, that was shitty. She has perfectly good reasons to not want to talk to him and he just can't respect that and I hate it. I feel like Daniel would be first in line to verbally set Jacek on fire and, ideally, “accidentally” zat him at least once. Now, don't get me wrong I LOVE Stargate, but just because you love someone doesn't mean you have to be blind to its faults. And I know with my rant about last episode I sound like a hater lmao but the last few episodes of this show just don't do it for me. Bad writing and characters acting unlike themselves when it's the last episodes of not just the season but the SHOW ???? When they should further the Ori plot ?? Disappointing.

I always thought it could work the blue was when a team was on duty but in stand down mode, doing work on the base & green meant you were active & had or will be going off world. Overall the blue & green colors have never been explained & seem to be inconsistent, at least to me. Maybe it's like uniforms in NHL Hockey where a team has a default home uniform but also an alternate home uniform which is just as valid

There are good character moments for Vala & Landry & I thought Fred Willard was funny, although I did always believe he acclimated to Earth culture far quicker then he should've given he's never been on the planet before & Teal'c being embarrassed at The Vagina Monologues gave me a good laugh In hindsight, given that the show only had 2 more episodes left, it makes this episode pointless in the long run as it was less relevant to give Vala & Landry a character building episode when the show was about to end. If they had gotten to continue, I think this episode would been fine as a one off side adventure In the Audio commentary, it was said that when Jasec said to Sam I expected more & she said sometimes so do we, but truth is the Stargate program doesn't get the funding it once did followed by Dr. Lee yelling out Eureka was a dig at SyFy because the show Eureka was getting popular & Syfy had been giving them a bigger budget while lowering SG-1's budget.

The one wearing blue were in The Air Force and they are wearing an Air Force uniform which happens to be blue. Vala, Teal'c and Daniel are not in the Air Force and therefore not allowed to wear an Air Force uniform. So they are just wearing a green SGC uniform. I actually like these kind of details. Its adds realism. Just in case you didn't know, the play Teal'c is watching at the end was a famous play called The Vagina Monologues that came out in 1996.
