For me its weird. I prefer subtitled versions, but ONLY for languages i can't understand a word of. (like chinese, japanese, etc.). And i find it super irritating to have subtitles for anything i can understand quite decently. (like german, english (austrian-german native speaker). Sadly many series are only dubbed in "german", sometimes with a very noticeable german-german (northern german) accent, which makes it really hard to watch as an austrian.

2025-07-05 19:18:47 +0000 UTCI prefer dubs anyway. I only watch something subbed if dubbed isn't available. I usually have something on in the background while I'm grinding in some videogame. Can't do that if I can't understand what's being said. So, Light thinks that causing a "small house fire" because he doesn't want anyone to read his diary makes sense. Not sure what's scarier. His family buying that or the way in which he was brought up that this would be considered normal for him.

2025-04-05 22:22:37 +0000 UTCYeah, when I watched this for the first time, I chose the subtitles, because animes were infamous for having bad dubs. But then I heard that they took the dub for this very seriously and not just out of obligation. It is very well done. I definitely wouldn't have picked this if this was one of those badly dubbed ones. I'm glad you like this so far. I'm not one for getting too much into anime but there are those ones that you hear about that stand above the rest and this was one of them, so I watched it and once I got started, it was hard to not keep going, even when I was nodding off. The concept is very interesting. The protagonist is no hero but it really makes you question morality. Should we pass judgment on criminals like he is? We do have the death penalty, which is typically reserved for the absolute worst criminals but there are those like Light that want to rid the world of any wrongdoing. But then, you take away people's choices to do right and wrong. The cat and mouse game between Light and L has only just begun and already, you see how clever both of them are. The show is so well written, beautifully animated and well acted. I will definitely be picking more in the future.

2024-10-20 16:23:14 +0000 UTCThere is no definitively anymore. Most modern dubs are really well done and can be easily enjoyed. This sub vs dub thing came from the very bad dubs many years ago, but they have gotten so much better now. Plus, on this show, most people even prefer the dub to the sub because it’s so well done.
