Superman & Lois S04E09 - To Live And Die Again FULL REACTION

This show was a solid from beginning to end (unless they shit the bed on the last episode) and I'm going to miss it. Tyler and Bitsie are top notch. Tyler has become my favorite live action Superman putting my previous favorite Dean Cain (even if he is a giant piece of shit as a person) as number 2. I was originally disappointed to hear they were recasting Johnathan but if I'm being honest, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way, Michael did a better job. In my opinion the only real weakness of the show occurred in Season 1 (and to a lesser extent Season 2) when connecting to the Arrowverse Prime Don't get me wrong I love me some Dig and am always happy to see him but once they decided to change it to a separate universe (a change made after they shot the bulk of the first season) It makes his stuff kind of weird. Covid man it fucked everything up, but I feel forcing their hand to make it it's own universe in the end strengthened the show as a whole.

The Arrowverse is ending real soon, wow. I remember watching the franchise for the first time with Arrow at college. I practically binged the first five seasons, The Flash's first three, the two seasons of Legends and when Uni started in watched all the shows live and enjoyed watching loads of different people's reactions to the shows, including yours Shan, and now here we are on last ever episode, WOW the time flew by (pun intended). The Arrowverse to me as whole, is amazing. Because they have introduced audience's into lesser known DC characters that not many people know about (unless your a die hard comic book fan), such as Green Arrow, Supergirl, Black Lightning and so on. It also introduced original characters that I think have now been added to the comics like Diggle and Ryan Wilder, so this franchise has a legacy. However, sometimes you tell how cheap some of these shows are like The Flash started off with good effects but then went bad as it went on. There wasn't much action sometimes it was just people talking saying sappy speeches. Also I feel like some of the writers reverted to "shipping" instead of telling compelling relationship stories. While some of the relationships in my opinion were good, (Clark and Lois, Sarah and Ava and Barry and Iris) there some that were just bad and where just done to keep shippers happy. Despite all that this still an awesome franchise. Superman & Lois for me I think made me really like Superman, because before that I thought he was just some boring one dimensional character looking silly with the cape and pants on the outside. But Tyler was brilliant showing him as down to earth and a father, the way the show handled it was so cool, because in previous adaptations he's had to rely to father figures to help him, but now HE has to be the father figure and learn as he goes. Over all I'm kind of glad that it's ending on a fourth season because loads of show go on for too long and lose all their quality (*cough The Flash and The Simpsons*). I know it's not what the writers wanted but I think it's for the best. Final episode is gonna be epic and emotional cause last one ever so why not? So, I guess this is it, goodbye Arrowverse thank you for so many memories, and I hope you're remembered as how to do a tv franchise with amazing characters and stories. And now I'm going to cry before watching the final episode (don't judge me!).

I don't have a lot to say really. What I want to say I said in Discord and it doesn't belong here. It's a different kind of spoiler...lol

Well it's hard to believe but here we are, one more episode left of not just this show but the entire Arrowverse. And yes, I'm also in the camp of it's part of the Arrowverse. Not like Titans, Doom Patrol or the other shows that cameoed for a second in Crisis but this Superman actually debuted in Supergirl, so yes, he is still part of the verse. I have lots to say regarding this upcoming ending to an era, so bare with me and remember, you did encourage this, haha. The Arrowverse as a whole: There were definitely a lot of highs and lows within the Arrowverse shows. There were seasons of most of the shows that were great and others that were really bad. There were shows as a whole that were mid and then some that I just didn't really like in any season. I think though that this show and Stargirl are the only 2 shows that I thought were consistently good throughout. Of course, we have the season finale next week and while I doubt that they will fail at sticking the landing, I'm really hoping at the same time that they knock it out of the park. I'm really glad though that you decided to react to all the shows, in order like you did. Before discovering your channel, I had only watched the Flash and Supergirl. Watching your reactions, I got the whole picture and I probably wouldn't have bothered otherwise but even when there were episodes/seasons/shows that I was going through the motions on, your reactions made it more entertaining. And of course, when it was good, your reactions made it even better. Superman & Lois as a whole: As I said above, I thought this show was consistently great. Superman is one of those characters that is easy to get wrong but when you do it right, it makes for great movies/TV. We have seen plenty of examples of the former but this show proves that there are still writers that care about the character and the lore enough to give audiences what they want, a good story with good characters, without feeling the need to throw in unnecessary nonsense to pad episode lengths and season runs. This season: I have to admit, I was worried when I heard the initial news that this season was only going to be 10 episodes, there were budget cuts and just about all of the supporting characters outside of the Kents were being demoted to "special guest stars." But I really have been enjoying this season. And let's be honest, it's great that they actually got to plan the last season. Many other Arrowverse shows weren't so lucky. Luthor has been exceptional. He is as ruthless as he should be. As always, Clark, Lois and the Boys are at the top of their game. John's new actor made me even forget about the previous actor that played him and I never thought they could pull off replacing him at first. The way they have been handling the death and resurrection of Superman has been great. Then, him revealing his identity to the world was a ballsy move for the show but they managed to do it well. This episode: I don't find it too surprising that they brought Doomsday back, because remember, in the lore, Superman fights Doomsday and dies but then comes back. Doomsday does return and he has to fight him again and defeat him. I like that fact that Lex is showing his true colors to those close to him and people are really realizing how much of a monster he is. I think the last episode is going be action packed. We will have the Supes v. Doomsday rematch. Then there is Lex to deal with. And also Brainiac. Really excited for next week!

God, I love how they have now made Doomsday look even more like his comic self. It's definitely going to be interesting to see how they'll wrap up that and Lex in the Warsuit, especially with how much of a beating Clark has already taken in such a short time. But overall a great episode. Really loved the way they brought back Mannheim. The little talk him and Lois have about her cancer treatment was really heartwarming. I also appreciate how these last few episodes have started to show how much Jordan has actually developed into his hero role (especially that scene in the diner, when he helped with that woman's panic attack) despite not necessarily being more powerful. It seems the show is certainly ramping up for a big action setpiece, considering they've already started obliterating the Smallville set. That practical effect of the building getting destroyed when Superman and Doomsday crashed into it was great. Also a really solid cliffhanger. Clark getting his little goodbye speech cut off by Doomsday grabbing him by the head had me with my jaw open, ngl.

Superman & Lois, the show that made me truly love Superman. It has been a beautiful journey watching this show. This show has been a bright spot both for the Arrowverse post Crisis and my life post Covid. I was first introduced to Superman as a character with Brandon Routh in Superman Returns and subsequently Henry Cavill in Man of Steel. While I can enjoy both movies for what they are, they never made me truly connect with Superman or his cast of characters. And while I enjoyed Tyler in the role during his era on Supergirl, he was always pretty overshadowed by everything else that was going on, despite giving some solid performances even back then. Suffice to say I never would've guessed back then that Tyler would end up becoming my favorite interpretation of Superman. Over the course of the show Tyler became to Superman for me what I felt Grant Gustin was to the Flash. And the same also goes for Bitsie Tulloch and Lois Lane. I can't count the amount of times S&L has deeply affected me on an emotional level and I can't put into words how close to my heart these versions of Clark Kent and Lois Lane have grown, having witnessed both their greatest successes and hardships. This show had its ups and downs, as any tv show does but imo, it has nevertheless stood strong over its 4 year run time. While I may've only spent a comparatively short while with these interpretations of the characters, I'm still able to say that I have as full a picture of their lives as I do with heroes who I've followed for a decade or more. Tyler Hoechlin and Bitsie Tulloch have cemented themselves as truly being my Superman & Lois. Here's to hoping we will witness their happy end. Up, up and away!
