This is actually an observation while watching the reaction to 4x17, as I'm playing catch-up on reactions after binge re-watching the original Charmed. When Tayla talks about the sexist IOA rep calling her "honey" - the thought just occurred to me that, you know, Tayla doesn't actually speak English. Some fans conjecture that somehow traveling through the gate enables some kind of universal translator that allows people to communicate with local communities across different languages. However it works, I'm not wondering now what it means for Tayla to hear an Earth idiom. Like, when she's called "honey," does she know it's (technically) a term of endearment, and in this context was used condescendingly? Or did she hear this guy literally called her the athosian equivalent of "bug vomit"? πŸ€”

Th ending of this finale bugs me. To me it's the same situation as the SG-1 season 6 mid season finale. Here to me, the natural conclusion was Sheppard arriving back to the present & saying I no where Teyla is. The next episode, whether it was a 2 part finale or the season premiere would pick up from there. Taking on the stuff with Michael's base at the end felt rushed like you said & unnecessary as it already had a cliffhanger ending & this just felt like the episode was short so let's tack on a scene that should start the next episode just to pad out the time Other than that I do like this episode. I enjoy What If kind of episodes that show an alternate wat things could go

You: "Remember how we said that the Asgard technology on a ship was OP?" Remember how we said that it would take years to actually get a grasp on said technology? SURE. we HAVE. the technology ...Same goes for the fact we HAVE. the entire Ancient database at our disposal on Atlantis ...But that DOESN'T mean we can just all of a sudden dish out Asgard/Ancient tech As we've seen in the past season ..Ever since we aquired the knowledge of the Asgard ..We've been able to upgrade the Earth fleet with Asgard weapons and THAT. took half a season ...We upgraded our ships by copying the design from the Odyssey's already installed weapons ...SOMEWHAT. easy I suppose but it STILL. took roughly 6 months (if we're led to believe a season lasts a year) We've been living on Atlantis for 4 years (again, assuming each season lasts a year) and we've only uncovered just a small bit of what knowledge is stored in the city's database ...For all we know there could be a file that says "ZPM construction tutorial" ...But we haven't found it yet Imagine giving a modern day person the blueprints to develop their own hyper advanced tech ...It would take them MANY. years to figure out how to even come close to creating said tech Don't forget that Gateverse has always been set in a semi-realistic world where technological advancements don't just HAPPEN. overnight We have the knowledge to BECOME. OP ...We're however not nearly smart enough yet to implement said knowledge ...It would take even McKay and Carter YEARS. (or perhaps even a lifetime) to figure things out In the mean time ....Space lasers! Pew Pew!
