I know I'm late to the party, but this episode has always stood out in my memory. I watched it way back when it first aired. I was new to the Superman lore and this was my first experience with all of it. I've always really enjoyed this episode; there's something about it that has a bigger feel to it; and Clark coming back to Smallville and Lois visiting for the first time is great - especially Lois being taken down a couple of notches. Like others have said, i'm willing to buy into the idea that Clark's reaction in this instance is more extreme, because it's the first time ever encountering it. His body doesn't know how to handle it, but over time he can adapt. The solarflare ability is actually fairly new in the comics; it didn't debut until several decades after this series ended and, as I recall, not long before they used it on Supergirl.

Even for an older show I do enjoy how it just still surprises me with its ideas when it comes to showing when he's exposed to Kryptonite for the first time like compared to Smallville and other Superman media I've seen they'll generally write Clark getting exposed and then healed fairly quick even in Superman and Lois when he got shot with kryptonite bullets in S1 he just gets angry, pulls them out of his chest and is fine he doesn't even pass out from touching it. For them introducing it in this show and him still being affected I like that its different enough from more modern writings of it today that I enjoy it even in Superman the animated series they did a similar storyline only he was exposed to red sunlight for the first time. I really like the actors for Lois and Clark in this it gives me that Lois and Clark feel of that time period while still making me think of all the other good actors and actresses who have played these characters.

First, The first time you are exposed to a toxin, its not unusual for the response to be stronger. Over time he may build a greater tolerance. This would be consistent with the comics as over time he did in many storylines get better at resisting its effects. Second, that was a big piece.

These writers were clearly writing from a standpoint of serving the TV show, rather than the Superman lore. It was a different time. This isn't like Smallville or Superman and Lois. This is a drama series that happens to feature Superman. So, they aren't likely to get the details right of things that were in the comics or other Superman movies and shows.

I've never read the comics but I've seen the shows on how kryptonite effects Superman in different ways, but makes him weak all the same. This has to be the most unique way for sure though as he is still finding out who his super self is as an adult while still having full control of his powers, and having fun with them at times too

As cheesy as it was this is my favourite episode from the first season of Lois and Clark. Remember this is from 1993 and the most popular shows back then was Roseanne and Seinfeld. Before Smallville and the MCU this aired on abc the same network that makes Greys anatomy and if that’s your audience trying to modernise Superman and make him accessible for there target demographic must have been difficult enough. I remember watching an interview with Tom Welling and he said after a long day of shooting he came home and saw this episode on TV and he turned it off half way through because he didn’t wanna know how they did a Kryptonite story. This Clark is an adult experiencing Kryptonite for the first time, we get to see Clark being 100 percent himself, he wasn’t lying when he said ‘I’am normal’
