I'm surprised no one's pointed this out; and now I wish I had gotten to this episode before Shan reacted to the finale... It's not my favorite episode, but keep in mind, as was previously noted, the cast were only informed of the series cancellation at the end of episode 16 - three episodes prior. Who knows when the show runners knew, but it probably wasn't significantly sooner; a couple of days, maybe a week or two, if that? Who knows, but it's doubtful the showrunners were sitting on this information for a long time. The point being, this episode would have already been written and well into pre-production by the time they knew the show was cancelled. They could conceivably make minor tweaks, but unlike, say, Angel where they at least had time to redirect the last few episodes towards a series finale that wrapped things up; there's nothing they could have done about the core nature of this episode. They wouldn't have been able to just toss it out and have something completely different prepared and shot. SyFy wouldn't have paid to commission a new script and there wouldn't have been time even if they would have. In all likelihood, there was probably already a director lined up who had started doing pre-production; there likely would have been casting calls (maybe even decisions), locations would have been scouted. TV production schedules aren't just the 7-10 days of shooting; that's the the midway point in a process that starts weeks, even months earlier. There are multiple drafts, notes from the studio and network, rewriters. They may have shot this knowing the series was ending, but not when the episode was first broke or started it's production journey. They made this episode thinking the series was going to have at least another season.

5x19 Not much for me to say here. My LEAST favorite episode of Atlantis series. And to put it as the penultimate episode is an insult IMO. BTW, I wrote this part before I watched your reaction. I’m curious to see if you agree, I think you will but I’ve been wrong before. _________________________________________________________________ It's funny, “You say what this CSI fucking editing?”. It’s believed that they used the background shots of Las Vegas, WITH their editing from the show CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Both of which are owned by the same Production Studio, they-who-shall remain nameless. In fact fans refer to this episode as ‘CSI:Atlantis’. The two talkative, 'mobster'-looking men at the poker table sitting next to the Wraith are both well known for being on the mafia TV show The Sopranos. There were also a couple of big name high-stake professional poker players including Todd Brunson and Roy Winston. Also, there was Brad Wright producer for all three Stargate series was playing at Black Jack table. They said he was playing poker for an untraceable source of income. Playing at a casino is NOT untraceable. They report ALL winnings to the IRS. When John is drivinh his car in desert after quitting police, Johhny Cash is playing in background, John Sheppard always had a Johnny Cash poster on the wall of his room on Atlantis. They mention Star Trek the experience in Las Vegas, I wemt there once before it closed. It was awesome. Had a great time. You would think they did this episode to lower cost so that they could put more CGI in finale, but the cost of the popular big-name songs defies that. My only guess is it gives the actors a chance to show what other kind of acting they can do to assist in getting new roles in future. _________________________________________________________________ SGA series Review Well, here are, the end of Season 5, just 1 more to go. And only one more spin-off to go, at least as far as we know. I’ve been a fan of Stargate since it was on Showtime. And I am a fan of Atlantis since it aired. It has some great episodes, especially love the special appearances by SG1 characters. Whether its Jack, Daniel, Teal’c, or the short run of Sam in charge. Even the Appearance by General Hammond, Walter or Siler. Weird we never saw the new guys (Michell or Valla) on the Atlantis show. Valla went to Atlantis once but that was an episode of SG1. I feel while series as a whole was really good, it peak its less than great episodes and one I really dislike. Its this one, Vegas. Never liked it. I feel the early years of SG1 were the best, then the early years of Atlantis. Then it kind of equalizes out between the two as the seasons progressed. I’m glad you chose to make it a regular show on your channel and I’m eagerly looking forward to Stargate Universe Reactions.

Yeah you said it right : what the hell is this 😂 , and the placement of this episode in the series is extremely off to put it mildly , overall i think SG-1 is the better show , it has way more highs than Atlantis and is a bit more creative too , Atlantis is pretty ok on average during it's run but hasn't as much standout episodes as SG-1 imo , i wished it had been given atleast one more season , anyway i'll always miss the show and it's characters , now on to the series finale and then Universe !

well, me personally... I didn't "hate" this episode, but it was probably my least favorite of the series. Essentially they turned an idea that could have been explained in a 2-3 minute scene into an entire episode

Genuinely one of the best episodes of SGA.

Aight ...Didn't go straight into 5x19 ...I instead took some time to prep the site for Psych and Cobra Kai since at the time of typing this that's what you're recording ......Can you tell I'm not really that looking forward to watching Vegas? .......UGH ....And I have to edit it too which means I have to watch it TWICE! ....Can you do me a quick favor? ....Kill me Anyhoo ...Let's do this I guess (Added after watching: We'll talk about Atlantis once you're done recording the finale given I'd rather do that then ...And ...Look at the shit down below ...17 notes! ..Y'know ...I DID. contemplate leaving just ONE. note saying this episode fucking sucks ...But dammit Vegas! ..You just had to fucking piss me off!) ------- CSI ATLANTIS ------- 1. Yip... The working title for this episode was as you can probably guess already ..CSI Atlantis ...Not even kidding ..That's what it said on the initial script when it was written 2. You: "So we're being experimental in the 2nd last episode of the series?" ....YIP! You can blame Robert Cooper for this one ...Dude always wanted to do a CSI type episode ...I dunno man ...Maybe do that shit in Season 4 or something and NOT. as a penultimate episode?!? ...Vegas pretty much has nothing to do with anything and it's infuriating! This episode LEGIT. is the reason I hate it when showrunners use valuable time before the end of their show and fill it with absolute crap .....They KNEW. they got cancelled by this point! ...They SHOULD. have spent overhours rewriting whatever they had and went out with a 2-PARTER! ....But nah ...Instead we got Vegas 3. Y'know ...I really think Robert Cooper tried to apply for a job working on the C.S.I. shows and got shot down ...So instead he made this episode just so he could feel included ...UGH ...FOMO ...It's the worst! 4. The fuck is up with Earth-2 Keller's heavy eyeshadow?! ...Girl ..You work in a morgue ...Ease up on the make-up ...Ain't nobody seeing your face ...Also ...Is that even allowed on the work floor? ...Y'know??? ..To look like you're about to perform the first act at a Vegas strip club? 5. This episode makes heavy use of music ...Which ...I'm not hating on ..The music is fine (the kinda music younger Tony would walk the streets listening to while looking all edgy) ..And editing this will be slightly easier since I'm gonna be cutting a lot of it out / muting things ...Yeah ..THIS. is the part of the episode I DON'T mind ...Stargate needs some more music 6. Soooooo... Are we just supposed to assume this Wraith crash landed on Earth-2 and decided to go to the casino to play poker?? ....WHY. was he there??? ...HOW. did he learn poker?? ...HOW. did Earth-2 Sheppard find him?? ...What were the guys from The Sopranos doing there??? ...Did ANYONE. not question why Wraith Guy looked so incredibly pale??? 7. Wraith Guy jumping from the roof ...They had to film that stunt twice ...Turns out the first time they did it ..They forgot to press record 8. E-2 Woolsey takes E-2 Sheppard for a "little drive" as he says ....The drive from Vegas to Area 51 ....That's an almost 3 hour drive just FYI ...I wouldn't exactly call that "little" 9. The McKay in this episode actually ISN'T "Rod McKay" ...Rod knew Sheppard in the reality he came from ...In this episode ..THIS. McKay meets this Sheppard for the first time ....UNLESS. Vegas is set in the past (which it ISN'T) or it's a plothole ...This was NOT. the same McKay we saw back in the episode "McKay and Mrs. Miller" 10. Why was McKay telling Sheppard about everything?? Dude was literally giving him the entire rundown on the Wraith and Atlantis ....Why would a random Vegas cop be brought into the loop on Earth's most top secret project??? Was McKay planning on dating Sheppard (suck it Pete)....I guess security sucks not only on OUR. Earth 11. Yeeeeaaah... You also said you remembered seeing Sheppard walking away from a helicopter and seeing a hallway ....I guess we'll never know what random episode of Atlantis you caught a glimpse of way back when your sis and dad were watching the show 12. Ok ....Keller walks past McKay and Sheppard in the hallway ...She's apparently wiped off the heavy eyeshadow ...I guess she got fired from the stripclub? 13. Yeah ...Ok cool ...Wraith Dude needed money to build his communication device to call the Pegasus galaxy ..Sure ..Whatever ...STILL. doesn't explain HOW. the fuck he learned to play poker ....I have been on this planet a BIT. longer than Wraith Dude and I have ZERO. clue on how to play that shit at a level where I can YOLO into a Vegas casino and actually win 14. Yeeeeeeaaah... Seeing Wraith Dude (a.k.a. Icecube from Stargirl) walk out of his trailer with his machine gun ..Rock music going off ...That was pretty fucking cringey 15. So Wraith Guy managed to send his message containing Earth's location off to Pegasus ...Just not their Pegasus ...Good for them? 16. Yip ...This episode was fucking SHIT ....Sorry not sorry to anyone who liked this episode ...You're entitled to your opinion ...But you are DEAD-WRONG. 17. Oh and hey Froots ...At least you can now say you've watched an episode of CSI ...Not that that is anything to brag about ------- Can we please get into the finale now?? ...Please? ..........fuck ..I just remembered again what comes next for me ...I have to edit this shit ...If anyone needs me ...I'mma take a moment to go and cry in a corner

By this point in the show, Brad Wright had gotten sick of having to shoot alien planets in the same limited Vancouver locations, especially seeing the same forest on almost every planet in 2 galaxies. This episode was an experiment, they spent extra money then normal to travel all the way to Las Vegas which is quite a distance away. It was also meant to be a homage to the CSI shows as several of the producers were fans of it. I do like this episode. At 1st I thought "detective Sheppard" is undercover, then seeing a Wraith in Vegas I was saying what the hell is going on, but by the end it all made sense & I liked it, seeing a different version of the characters. You're right though being near the end of the show makes it an odd choice There was a debate if that was Rod, but Rod said his Sheppard was at Atlantis & was more like our McKay, always bragging about how smart he is. This McKay is different then Rod but also must've done something similar, or maybe another Sheppard visited them To answer your question, I think my favorite character would be Zalenka (during season 1 I kept screwing up his name & calling him Zalekna) I always thought he was a pretty clutch character who saved people's asses in Atlantis without getting as much praise as McKay. As for my favorite episode, this one I think I'll have to go with the 2 episodes for season's First Contact & The Lost Tribe. It was cool getting Daniel for a 2 parter, I liked the idea of Janus having a secret lab & while I was initially disappointed at their reveal, I thought the "evil" Asgard were a great adversary
