Inheritance: Scene Preview

Last night I offered to write up some scenes per request from our supporters at our "A world filled with wonder." support tier.  The first three viable ideas would be written, and those are: "Offering the girls their freedom" "Shower with Mitsuko" and "Shower with Eve"  I thought it would be fun to show these off as they are written.

I just finished up the first one on the list, am going to post it here, then plug it into the game.  I hope that you all enjoy it,

NOTES:
This scene is intended to play only at VERY high relationship stats.
When you see "::" that indicates the beginning of a new page of content.
When you see [[Visible text.|Actual link name.]] that indicates a link that will take you to the various pages of content.
When you see [[End.|$location]] that routs you back into the main part of the game.
None of the relationship stuff has been coded yet.

:: Anna and Eve Interactive Scene 5

You're sitting on the couch watching a show when you hear the door to the hallway open.  Glancing over your shoulder, you see Anna and Eve entering the room.

Several things happen at once.  You feel a sense of contentment wash over you as you smile.  At the same time, Eve grins and a warm smile forms naturally on Anna's lips.

"May we join you?"  Anna asks softly while Eve plops down on the couch to one side of you.

"Of course, you're both always welcome to join me,"  You reply.

Anna pauses, looking at the space beside you, then at you before sitting in the spot opposite her sister.  Once sitting, she scoots toward you until you feel her hip press against your own

Without really pausing to think about it, you put an arm around each of them, giving them both an affectionate little squeeze before turning your attention back to the television.

Over the next few minutes, everyone gets settled into the couch, Eve sitting close to you while Anna leans against you from the other side with her head resting on your shoulder.

You find yourself simply enjoying their presence and barely even paying attention to the television until one of the male characters tells his friend "If you love her, let her go.  If it's meant to be, it will be."

The words resonate with something deep inside of you and the show is once more forgotten as your thoughts turn toward your current circumstances, //Technically they are slaves, though I don't treat them like that, and that's not how I see them./  You can feel her brow furrow, //The thought of them not being here makes my heart ache, but at the same time, is it right for me to force them to stay?//

"Are you ok?"  Anna's voice comes very softly from your side, "You seem tense and you look unhappy."  You can tell from her expression that asking was not easy for her, but the clear concern she feels for you won out over her misgivings about speaking out of turn.

[[Offer them their freedom.|Anna and Eve Interactive Scene 5c]]

:: Anna and Eve Interactive Scene 5a

You give her an affectionate half hug, "It's nothing,"  You say softly, then kiss her on her brow.

Anna smiles, then lays her head back on your shoulder as the three of you continue to watch the show.

On your other side, you can see Eve looking at you oddly, as if she's trying to unravel some mystery.  A few minutes later however something exciting on the television captures her attention and she redirects scrutiny to what is playing out on the screen.

When the show's credits begin to scroll, Eve springs up from where she is sitting beside you.  A moment later Anna gets up with much more care, her body moving with a feline grace.

Once both girls are standing, you notice that you feel a slight chill where each of them was just pressed against you.

Both of them wish you a good night then slip from the living room, leaving you to your thoughts.

:: Anna and Eve Interactive Scene 5b

"You two both know that I think the world of you, right?"  You say loud enough to catch Eve's attention as well.

Anna smiles, a faint blush touching her cheeks, "And we love you,"  Her eyes drift to the ground near her feet as her blush darkens.

"Yeah, we know you love us, you're our favorite person in the whole world,"  Eve throws her arms around both you and her sister for one big hug.

You grin, your arms encircling both of them to return the hug.

"Now, quit being sappy and let us watch the show,"  Eve says with a smirk as she plops back down on the couch at your side.

"Eve!"  Anna says sharply.

"It's fine,"  You assure Anna as Eve snuggles back at your side, this time leaning against you much like her sister has been doing.

The rest of the show continues in a content silence until the credits begin to scroll slowly across the screen.

Eve springs up from where she is sitting beside you.  A moment later Anna gets up with much more care, her body moving with a feline grace.

Once both girls are standing, you notice that you feel a slight chill where each of them was just pressed against you.

:: Anna and Eve Interactive Scene 5c

"You two both know that I think the world of you, right?"  You say loud enough to catch Eve's attention as well.

Anna smiles, a faint blush touching her cheeks, "And we love you,"  Her eyes drift to the ground near her feet as her blush darkens.

"Yeah, we know you love us, you're our favorite person in the whole world,"  Eve throws her arms around both you and her sister for one big hug.

You grin, your arms encircling both of them to return the hug.

When you release them, you see Eve opening her mouth to say something, but you quickly cut her off before she has a chance to speak, "I have something I feel I need to say."

Maybe it's your tone, but suddenly both girls are looking at you with very serious expressions on their faces, "You know that I don't view either of you as slaves, right?"

Anna's expression becomes concerned, "Have we done something wrong?"  There's worry in her voice.

Eve's eyes widen suddenly, sudden panic in her features, "I'm sorry, whatever I did, I'm sorry,"  Her voice is just a little too high pitched as she speaks.

"Whoa,"  You say quickly, "Neither of you has done anything wrong,"  You pause for several heartbeats as their worry slowly starts to turn to curiosity, "What I'm trying to say is that you're both people, people that I adore and love, but you aren't my slaves."

Anna's expression turns to one of confusion, while Eve's becomes unreadable.

You sigh, struggling to find the words you need, "I love you both, and nothing would make me happier than knowing both of you wanted to stay here with me."

Eve pipes up, clearly confused, "On the couch?"

"No, in general, this mansion, this estate, with me, in my life,"  You try to clarify, "But I won't ever force you to stay.  If either if you ever wants to leave, let me know and I'll do everything I can to help you start a new life."

"Dummy,"  Eve says, sounding suddenly angry, "We want to be here with you.  You make us happy, why would we want to loose that?"  Crossing her arms over her chest and giving you a stern glare, then worry etches her face when she glances at her sister.

Anna's reaction is much different.  Her hands grip tightly to your side, nearly painfully.  There are tears flowing freely down her cheeks, "I don't want to go,"  You barely make out the words, "I want to stay.  With you."

"Anna,"  You say her name softly, stroking her cheek affectionately before, "Nothing would make me happier to you staying."

Leaning in, you kiss her lightly on the lips,  You can taste the salt from the tears that have reached that far.

"I guess what I'm trying to say is this;  You're not slaves, you're not servants, you're family.  And having the two of you here is what makes this mansion a home.  This is as much your home as mine,"  You try to weigh each word carefully as you speak, "But more important than anything I might feel, I want the two of you to be happy, you're free, I won't keep you here against your will."

"Are you stupid?"  Eve's words are sharp, like a slap to the face, "We're happy with you,"  She shakes her head in disbelief, "Why would you even //think// we might want to loose that?"

You take a deep breath, trying to gather your thoughts and realizing that what was supposed to be a simple comment has somehow spiraled out of control into something else, "Let me try this again; You're both free, I love you both, and this is your home as long as you want it to be."

Eve's eyes narrow as if weighing your words, "Better, not perfect, but better,"  As she says the words, you can see a smile just starting to tug at the corners of her lips.

Turning your head toward Anna, you lean your forehead against hers, "I didn't mean to upset you,"  You let go of Eve so you can wrap both arms around Anna, holding her close

You finish the show on the television and the next one starts, "Goodnight //master//,"  Eve says with a smirk.

In your arms, you see Anna smile faintly.

"Goodnight Eve,"  You reply softly.

Anna finally stirs at your side, moving to get up, "I should go with her,"  Her voice is a little raw, "Goodnight."

"Goodnight Anna."

You see Eve take Anna's hand, leading her toward the exit. Within seconds, you are left alone with your thoughts, //I wonder if I could have made that any more awkward?//  You think dryly.

A few minutes later you sigh, turning off the television and getting up off the couch, your thoughts on how nice it felt to have both of them cuddled up against you on the couch.

Comments

Glad you enjoy it. While we haven't explored the "Negative/Evil" content much yet, I do actually have plans to include content related to them trying to run away and such. ;)

Aftermath Team

This scene honestly warms my heart, Anna is my weak spot. and to be honest it would be very nice to see the "evil path" counterpart of this with John or Claire stopping them from running away kind of thing.

Jordan Davis

I'll take a look at it next time I crack open the game to work on it. I like reviewing a scene the day after I write it, gives me more of a fresh look than if I just read it right after writing it.

Aftermath Team

The scene won't make an impact on chores and such. It's sort of a case of chores need to be done, so they get worked on.

Aftermath Team

i mean she would... wouldn't she? John admitted they are not ( at the least, no longer) servants or slaves, I would imagine anna would continue to cook and clean out of a sense of duty and devotion, but eve would spend a significant amount of time playing, with Gaia, with you,

Braidborn

Eve has those moments of brilliance and deep insight, I see this as a bit of a reflection of that. The idea of her asking for more play time cracks me up though, . . .

Aftermath Team

much much better, though i still think eve's reaction (the whole "Dummy," Eve says, sounding suddenly angry,") is a bit out of character to me Eve is the definition of child like innocence, innocent yes but also very mischievous, imho i don't think anger would be the emotion she feels, more pure adoration followed immediately by asking if this means she could play more during the day

Braidborn

I just posted a revision below. Let me know what you think.

Aftermath Team

What do you think about this replacing the line where Eve calls you "Master"? You can feel Anna take a deep breath, hold it for a second then let it out slowly. Her breath is hot against your chest. You're actually a bit surprised when she pulls back suddenly, her eyes holding a strength that you are not used to seeing, "If you want us to leave, we will," You can feel your eyes widen slightly at how firm her voice is, "But I //love// you, //we// love you, and there is no place we would rather be," She barely even pauses as she forges on, "This mansion, it was the place of nightmares before you came her, and you, your kindness, your compassion, it turned those nightmares into a fairytale. It made this house of horrors into a home for us. You gave us our lives, gave us worth, and made us your family," The tears begin to flow freely from her eyes now, her voice finally faltering, "It hurts my h-heart just to think about leaving y-you. If home is where the heart is," Her voice becomes a bare whisper, "Then my home is with you." For several seconds, you are speechless, unable to form coherent thoughts as you struggle to find the correct response. Lacking any words, you pull her back into your arms and hold her tightly. You don't hold her long before you feel something against your arm, trying to wedge itself between your arm and Anna. Glancing toward the source, you see Eve trying to squeeze her way into the embrace. You happily loosen your grip enough for the younger woman to slip into your embrace as well. The three of you remain like that for a long time, both sisters seemingly content within your embrace. When the show finally ends, Eve wiggles out of your embrace before turning to you, "Goodnight //master//," Eve says with a smirk.

Aftermath Team

(was still typing hit enter by accident) Well, assuming anna doesn't think its some kind of trap, i would imagine anna and eve would love him even more for the offer, to use your words when the dust settles, they should realize exactly what he is offering, not just freedom but a better life than before, one without fear or pain, Like mentioned previously one trip to the police with the journals and john is in jail for life, it should be the moment where they realize it not blow it off as being silly or something they already have

Braidborn

At super high stat levels, I picture Anna accepting the words at face value, it's a long road to earn her trust, and that should count for something important. I am however rolling an idea around in my head as a way to expand the scene. We'll see what I come up with. ;) I think what I have in mind will impassion the scene a bit.

Aftermath Team

Ok, talk to me then. How would you picture the scene playing out? I was picturing it as one of those moments where something big comes up, and when the dust settles you realize that what they've already sort of achieved the freedom that you just offered. I'm more than willing to take another look and possibly improve on the scene. Also, this is my first draft, it's not unusual for me to go back and expand on a scene later.

Aftermath Team

the way 5c ends, kind of takes away from the gesture... its supposed to be viewed as this wonderful gesture the end result being they love him even more for the choice, but the way they react its almost anticlimactic, like there was no point in john making the offer in the first place
