Inheritance Writing Contest

Welcome to the first of what will hopefully be be many Aftermath Team writing competitions!  If you like to write, there is $100 worth of prizes to be won!

If this contest performs well, then we will almost certainly do similar contests in the future.  Feel free to share this contest information with anyone you think may be interested in participating.

The Theme:

There is no theme!  This writing competition is for the game Inheritance, a tale about a young man who unexpectedly inherits an estate along with two slave girls.  The scenes should take place within the mansion and involve one or both of the girls. (Details about the girls below.)  Write whatever you want so long as it fits the game's theme.

The Rules:

-The contest will run from the time of this posting until February 1st.  That should give you two months to write.

-You may submit as many entries as you would like, but only your highest voted entry is eligible for a reward.

-Minimum scene size should be 500 words.  However there is no maximum scene.  My own interactive scenes have tended to range in size from 1000 to 5000 words so far for example.

-Scenes should have at least one branching point.

-Scenes should be playable at more than one relationship ranges (Should be a minimum of three, even if they are 1, 2, 3 or 8, 9, 10.).  Most every scene should take into account both Affection and Fear.  Please group scenes by 2.5 point increments (See "Notes about Relationships" below) at minimum, though 1 point increments is encouraged.

-Clearly indicate the end of a segment and the choices at the end of that segment.  Then clearly indicate where that choice picks up along with the relationship point values related to that segment.  If you guys can do that much, I'll be happy to actually code the scene on my end.

-Scenes should be able to stand by itself.  So if you write it with the intent of adding additional scenes related to it, those scenes should not be necessary to fully enjoy the scene (Like the Lord of the Rings books.  The Hobbit can stand on its own merit, but you can't JUST read The Fellowship of the Ring by itself.)  If you DO plan to create a series of scenes, you may submit them as their own entries for the contest, but the entire series should be present.

-Writers should send me a Private Message with your email address, preferred payment method, and attach/link a txt format file with your scene (Or in the case of multiple scenes, one file for each scene).  Your scene should have your user name attached to make it easy to identify who wrote the scene.  Your email will be needed (And in the case of Steam, your user name) in order to get your your prize, so if you do PayPal, you should ensure that you send whatever email you have associated with that.  I will not share your information with anyone.

-Winners will be voted for by Patrons only.  Scenes will be voted for by "Liked" "Neutral" "Disliked" and any scene, regardless of if it wins of not, if it has more than 60% "Liked" and a "Disliked" of less than 10%, then it will eventually be added to the game.

Awards:

-Prize breakdown goes as follows: 1st Place $50, 2nd Place $25, 3rd Place $10, and 4th through 6th Place $5 each. Prize can be paid through PayPal, Amazon Gift Card, or Steam gift card.  You are however only eligible for a prize for the highest rated entry.  So if you win second, third and sixth place, you would only receive the 2nd place award.

-Upon Requests, anyone who's entry is added to the game may request a copy of the game when their scene is added and I will send them a CHEAT build of the game so they can see their new scene in action.

-Your name will be credited in the game under the "Special Thanks" area under a special heading for the contest, along with the name of your entry.

Below this point is content for contest participants.  Feel free to read up on what is below if you feel so inclined, there shouldn't be a lot of spoilers, but you may learn a little something about the girls if you want.  ;)

Notes about the world:

The world of Inheritance is very much like our own as far as culture.  Where the game takes place is a western themed region (I live in the USA, so I write what I'm most familiar with).  If it can happen in our world, then it can most likely happen here.  If not, then it should be ok'd before you begin to write.

Anna:

Anna is 21 years old.  She does her best to present herself in a dignified and professional manner.  She remembers only bits and pieces of her life before becoming a slave but does not like to talk about it even at very good relationship levels.  She is educated, maybe to a high school level though it is largely self taught.  Her previous owner treated her poorly, raping her frequently, threatening to do the same to her younger sister to manipulate her, and often playing mind games with her that resulted in her being fearful and paranoid.  She would rather submit than stand up for herself, but she can be fierce and very protective of her sister if she thinks Eve may be in any kind of danger.  Its not easy to build her trust, but even once you do she can sometimes react on reflex in a fearful manner.  At high relationship values, she is reserved and likes being close to the protagonist, though she will welcome any advances the protagonist might make, she'll rarely initiate anything herself.  At very low (On a scale of 1-1000, about a 250 or lower) she will develop a stutter when confronted with situations that make her uncomfortable. At high relationship values, she will be ok with you developing a physical relationship with her sister if you treat her well, at mid relationship values she will react poorly to you developing a physical relationship with her sister (It will hurt your relationship with Anna, but she won't do much about it) and at low relationship values she has the potential to react VERY poorly to you becoming physical with her sister.

Eve:

In spite of her appearance (She appears to be about 12-14), Eve is 18, going on 19 at the start of the game.  She has a youthful energy about herself and because she has been sheltered from the harsher aspects of her situation will often view the world around her with wide eyed wonder.  She is friendly and affectionate, but if scared or uncertain she will quickly look to her sister for guidance.  She is educated to a high grade school level, though her sister is trying to tutor her with limited success.  She does not remember anything of her live before becoming a slave.  At low relationship values she will become quiet and clingy around her sister.  At high relationship values she will become affectionate and just a little flirty with the protagonist.  She will not do anything sexual with the protagonist until she is prompted into doing so, but once she has done something once, she will initiate the same activity in the future if she has a good enough relationship with the protagonist. (Example, if you coax her into giving you a handjob, she'll be a bit hesitant to do so at first, but after the first time, she may initiate a handjob in the future.  She seems largely oblivious to how you treat her sister unless you treat her sister poorly in front of her.

If anyone wants any further detail, or I failed to include something, feel free to ask and I'll update this at my first convenience.

Notes about relationships:

-Relationship stats range from 10-1000.  But for the sake of this, we'll look at it as 0-10 to make it simpler.

-Affection is how fond she is of the protagonist.  10 is loving completely, and 0 is hate.

-Fear is how scared she is of the protagonist. 10 is absolutely terrified, while 0 would be no hint of fear.

-Trust is how comfortable and trusting she is with the protagonist. 10 is complete trust and willingness to confide in the protagonist.  0 would be her clamming up and refusing to tell you anything about much of anything.

Code:

Note:

-Everything in the << >> can be copy/pasted into the game to print the related content.  Odds are that a lot of it won't be important but its there if you need/want it!

-All of the content below is written for Anna, the "anna" in any of the code below can be replaced with "eve" to call her information instead.

-A completed scene from the game has been added to this post if anyone is interested in seeing some of what is below in practice.

Anatomy of a scene:

-Obviously, some scenes will have a full spectrum of relationship setters, while others may only be available at certain relationship ranges.  The example below shows the widest ranges I'd like to see, and I encourage people to use smaller increments to create a much more diverse range of experiences when playing.

-There is no limit to size for your scenes.  I try to write scenes at 1-2 point increments for relationship stats at minimum, and add 1-3 branching points.  The example below would result in a total of nine variants to each section of the scene, but if you wanted to do it in 1 point increments you could create an absolutely massive number of variants if you want.  Make your scene as complex as you want, and the players will love you for it.

-Keep in mind that the affection stuff looks worse than it really is at a glance.  In many cases it is only a minor rewrite to reflect a bit more hesitation in some circumstances, or to show a hint more affection.  0-10, its a sliding scale, the situation is the same though the relationship stats affect how people react to that situation.

Thank you.

Aftermath Team

I have mailed you.

AbyssalEros

Thank you!

Aftermath Team

No problem, loved Wanton Cove and was interested in Inheritance, while the Writing Contest was just the push to finally try it. And thanks, you know for what, and rest assured I will not do so. BTW have a nice road trip.

AbyssalEros

Received the report and replied. Thank you very much for the obvious effort you put into detailing everything you saw. Your presentation will make things very easy to find the items you reported. I appreciate it very much.

Aftermath Team

Hey, I have sent you what I already have, my mail-address begins with an 'A' by the way, as I have several reincarnations within this world. ;)

AbyssalEros

I usually encourage people to either PM me things like this either though here or through TFGamesSite. Lacking that, you can shoot me a message through GateKeeper_A@protonmail.com though you will want to give me a heads up if you do since I rarely check that email unless I know something is coming that way. I'll be looking forward to seeing what you have come up with for an error report. Its always nice when things can be improved to make the experience better for everyone.

Aftermath Team

Is there anyway to contact you for people like me who are no patrons of you. I was looking into Inheritance to familarize myself with it, as I only knew Wanton Cove so far, and while doing so I found a few (or more) issues with spelling and other errors. This list I would like to give you somehow to look it over. Because of time management issues I was only able to read the intro so far, but my list is already quite large, too large to post here.

AbyssalEros

There are two sisters, if you don't feel like writing for one, then writing a scene just related to the other is completely acceptable. Besides, writing lewd content is entirely optional.

Aftermath Team

I'm intrigued by the contest, but honestly the inclusion of a "looks and acts underage but totally isn't" character is giving me pause

Dissonant Soundtrack

A quick addition to this: Eventually, I actually want to create a template with all of the code needed to create a scene in the game as a guide for user submissions to the game. What you see above will become a part of that eventually.

Aftermath Team

No need to code if you don't want to. Just indicate where you want something if you prefer and I'll handle the coding on my side.

Aftermath Team

The listed code is there for copy/paste if you want to, but so long as you indicate what you want to go where within your writing, I will handle the code myself on this end.

Aftermath Team

Interesting...still, I am probably not going to try and enter something, especially since I'd have to dust of my mediocre knowledge of HTML (I played around with that years ago and I wasn't very good at it either, especially since the people who were supposed to teach me were - frankly speaking - crappy at explaining stuff! They were good at doing it themselves, but that's not the point of teaching and being a teacher, is it?) Still, I am looking forward to voting on what other people write/present :)

Thomas Sperl

<strike>Am I missing the deadline for this?</strike> ((Yes I am, feb 1st, YAY okay now I can stop worrying)) Sorry I am mid 17 page research proposal editing (10 page goal) and I am on 2 hrs sleep. If I am missing something please point it out- also do we put the code in ourselves or can we just denote ((Positivevalue change)) or ((Negative value change)) and leave the exacts to you?
