Commputer problems.
Added 2017-12-10 21:06:34 +0000 UTCMy computer has been acting a little funny for a few days now, but nothing too bad until this morning.
This morning, well, I'm starting to get a bit frustrated.

So basically, I have no idea what is wrong at this point in time, but the end result is that my antivirus is down and refuses to restart, and my computer refuses to let me access my game files (Inheritance specifically).
I've got a temporary work around to the problem, I've installed a different antivirus that seems to be working correctly, and I've used another computer to access the Inheritance files.
What I'm up to right now: I need to test the new build of Inheritance, then if everything looks good, I'll send a new build out to testers. Once that's done, I'm planning to run a full virus scan with the new antivirus, then troubleshoot from there. Its frustrating, but its probably not a big deal in the big scheme of things.

Rant complete, its time to get back to work.

I've got an external hard drive that's mostly full of porn, . . . . I've also got a couple of flash drives that I actually use for backup. :P

But after the new year I plan to start looking for a good computer that will hold up for a while (Not the "This will get me by" models I usually buy). If I can do that, then I can factory restore this one and have a fairly decent backup if I ever have significant troubles.

2017-12-11 13:46:33 +0000 UTCAt the beggining of SCREW WARS Development I had the same issue. This black friday I had to purchase a new hard drive which I dedicate only for the project, and it already is 1/3 full.

2017-12-11 13:45:43 +0000 UTCThat;s the same setup I have when using Firefox as well. Still run the antivirus though, probably mostly out of habit.

2017-12-11 05:44:23 +0000 UTCIf you use Mozilla Firefox with AdBlocker and NoScript there's little to nothing that could possibly target your system from the internet.

2017-12-11 05:42:38 +0000 UTCHave to agree with Ver Greeneyes here, I literally don't use ANY active anti-virus shields other than Windows Defender with the free software Malware Bytes and Spybot Suite for weekly manual scans. In the past 3 years I may have found 2-3 viruses ever. Defender is all you need as long as you update the virus definitions regulary, and it isn't prone to ridiculousness that other active AV programs have like Avast, AVG, Norton etc. There's no reason to put up with them if you can get better, less annoying software for free; )

2017-12-11 05:41:21 +0000 UTCI've used AVG for many years now, and they've always worked well for me. Whatever is going on is locking up their system completely. I'm wondering if some kind of bug got past their defenses and locked something up, especially since I uninstalled and reinstalled their service and it didn't fix the issue. Giving my system a full checkup right now

2017-12-10 22:01:47 +0000 UTCIt's sad, but Antivirus programs often do more harm than good. They insert hooks deep into the bowels of the operating system, your browser et cetera and often lead to stability problems. I think the best advice right now is just "stick with Microsoft's built in solution and run any files you really don't trust through VirusTotal".
