Rethinking the next couple of weeks.

Those of you who have been with us for a while should know by now that I tend to just tell it how it is rather than try to sweet talk my way through things.  In this case, I suspect that the vast majority of you won't mind at all, but since its something I've mentioned I wanted to accomplish, and it looks like I'll be falling little short of my goal, I figure I owe it to everyone to explain myself.

\

Before I go into detail, I'm first going to mention that I've always promised one build a month, with a minimum of 3k words of content in each released build.  Before the rollout of Inheritance as an active project, we were releasing 2-3 times a month, and since Inheritance went active, releases have been weekly.  I mention this as frame of reference before continuing.

\

As you all know, this weekend kicked my ass with a pretty bad cold that I'm still recovering from. (I do feel MUCH better today though.  Couple of days to hack all this mess out of my chest and I should be good as new!)  Add to that the fact that as I am getting better, the rest of my family is falling ill with what I'm getting over.  Needless to say, even though I deeply love my work, when I have to choose between working or taking care of my family, my family will always come first.

My plan going into last week was to work very hard and to try getting not only the next Wanton Cove build ready for testing, but to also get the next build of Inheritance close to a testing phase.  I accomplished that with little trouble.  I had then hoped to put the final touches on the Inheritance test over the weekend and into yesterday, . . . which unfortunately wasn't able to happen.  Once that was done, I had hoped to put Monday through Thursday morning into Wanton Cove in the hopes of getting the next build of that ready for testing before I had to leave for my trip.

Since yesterday was a bust, and a storm coming through the area on Thursday is likely going to force us to depart that morning for our trip instead of that afternoon, this work week has been completely shot to hell.

I spent a lot of time thinking about this last night, and I eventually decided my best bet was to simply spend the rest of this week putting the final touches on the next Inheritance test build as time permits, then jump into Wanton Cove when I get home from my trip (Maybe working on it a bit during the trip if time permits.)

End result of all of this is that since this week is being spent playing catch up, and with my being on vacation with family next week, (Half of which will be drive time), we're going to miss a release window in a couple of weeks.

\

Short Version:

-New build of Wanton Cove will be released late this week. New TEST build of Inheritance will be released late this week.

-New build of Inheritance will be released late next week.  No Wanton Cove TEST build this week like originally planned.

-The following week will most likely have no game release.  New Wanton Cove TEST Build late in the week.

-Following week things should start getting back to normal.

\

Looking at the calendar, it looks like the affected release will be the first week of next year.  I hope it doesn't inconvenience anyone too badly.

Now, back to work!

Thank you for the well wishes. It should be an interesting trip, hopefully it will be relatively laid back. Guess only time will tell! Regardless, will be good to see my family again and hopefully the trip will happen without any unwanted excitement. :P

Ok, have fun...yeah doctors (my grandmother (last living grand-parent) is in the hospital currently and they took their sweet time figuring out what's wrong with her, getting any info was like trying to pull a shark's teeth :(...my sympathy for those "gods" in white "bathrobes" is at an all time low ATM), they seldom tell you stuff straight, it's annoying! Sadly you Americans don't have payed vacation time by law (Germany would see a revolution if they tried to get rid of that - yes, I am from Germany)...it's kind of sad and leads to all kinds of issues (burnout syndrome, depression etc.) compounded by not having a single payer healthcare system :( Still, I hope you have a great holiday to recharge your batteries (nothing better than a great holiday to return to work with great ideas :) )

Thanks.

Well done!

You're welcome. I was always taught to be up front an honest about things, and while the truth might piss some people off, I've found that its almost always the best way to approach things in the long term. I really don't enjoy long drives with my bad back either, but my parents live about (Depending on rout) 17-20 hours drive time from where I live. The closest train station from where I live would be about two hours from my home (Which already means a longish drive, its thirty hours by train roughly, plus the need to find somewhere we could safely park the car for a week), a plane ticket is slightly out of my price range at the moment, and the last time I took a buss for that trip, I saw things that I refuse to potentially expose my children to. I figure that we drive about half the distance each day with a motel along the way, four days with my family, then return the way we came. We'd stay longer, but my wife has to be back to work by the 30th. Its actually thanks to you, and all of the other people who are generous enough to support these projects that we're able to make this trip at all. We've traditionally visited my family about once every other year, and this will be the first time we've visited for Christmas in about ten years now. The biggest reason though is that my dad has started having some pretty serious heart problems (Well, he's had heart issues for a long time, but things have gotten quite a bit worse in the last few months. Supposedly things are under control, but the doctors don't want him to travel for a while.) and it prevented him from making a trip to see us this fall. We decided that since he was pretty bummed out about not being able to see his grandkids combined with them visiting us at least twice for every time we've gone to see them, we'd squeeze the budget and find a way to go see them for Christmas.

Thanks for the info :) - Kudos to you for being honest, I like that! But: Why would you go on a holiday where half of it is driving? (Unless you get to drive things you normally do not, like say a Lamborghini or a tank or something like that!) I never understood this and I like driving, but I wouldn't like doing it for hours on end...I'd rather take the train in that case or the plane if possible...hell even the bus and I don't like buses much!
