The Allure of Wanton Cove Art Breakdown
Added 2018-01-24 23:00:37 +0000 UTCToday I bring to you another art breakdown! This time for the bridge scene in the game's primary ending.
This first piece was actually done before I wrote the scene it belonged to. I had given the artist a brief overview of the scene I had planned and he got to work.

I was really happy with the overall feel of the image, but requested that they add some sag to the bridge .
This is what I received in return.

By this time I had finished writing the scene the image was for and asked that the support posts be replaced with something thicker and to plan for adding runes to the surface. We found a cthulhian letter chart for reference. I told them to work some of it into what was done on the pillars but to mostly use it as a starting point for the style of symbols and to mix it up with a little bit of their own stuff too.
Next up was the first bit of colors.

I liked what they did with the pillars and I gave the ok to continue with the image.

With the runes and fog effect, I really loved how this piece was shaping up. In addition to asking for the fog effect to be thickened a bit, I asked them to put some sickly looking grass in small clumps for a little detail and to better match the scene the image came from. I also asked them to darken things up a little along the edges of the image so it will blend better with the black background of the game.

The grass effect looked good, but the coloring looked wrong to me. I asked them to remove the small clump near the river of white goo since it looked out of place to me, then asked them to brown up the grass a bit so it looks like its dying.

The revised grass effect looked good, so I gave the artist the go ahead to put any final touches in place and send me the final version.

And this concludes another art breakdown. I hope that you all enjoyed it. I know this was one of my favorite pieces done for the game so far!
The artist is currently working on another image related to the game's primary ending. I'll be looking forward to sharing it with all of you when its completed!
