Wanton Cove Progress Report
Added 2018-02-07 22:44:02 +0000 UTCBeen a very long day today. Productive even if I don't have a lot to show for it from your perspective. Played with a LOT of code today.
-Added about 500 words of written content to the game today in the form of "Case Notes." Reason it was such a slow day content wise is because I had to code all of that into the game, plus I took the time to clean up the code in a couple of places.
-Also did a couple of minor rewrites.
- I also took the time to add an indicator for enemies in fights, it won't show you their exact HP, but it will give you some idea of what shape they are in (This is a feature that was requested several months ago and I decided to pull it out of the "Future Improvements" pile to work on. See, I pay attention! ;) )
-Spent a couple of hours working through bug reports for both Wanton Cove and for Inheritance.
Like I mentioned, it was a code heavy day that didn't leave a lot that you guys will be seeing on the surface, but I still feel good about the progress.
Had someone post in a forum I share Inheritance on with a thought I found rather thought provoking. They asked if I had ever considered donating money to to victims of human trafficking on the grounds that Inheritance deals with slavery. I told them no, and that on the rare occasions I have money to donate to causes it goes toward childhood cancer research (I subject close to my heart because I lost a daughter to cancer around 10 years ago now.). That said, I thought it was a subject that deserved some of my attention, so I've started doing a bit of research (Beyond what I've done for the game itself) on the subject and plan to create a link on the title page of the game that will lead anyone interested to sites about the topic along with maybe a couple of charities related to helping the victims of that kind of mistreatment. It will just be a simple link indicating that you can learn more if you follow it, then a list of links related to the topic. Unobtrusive for those who are just hoping to enjoy a game, but there for anyone who wants to learn more. I'll be fitting my research on the subject around my usual work, so it may be a month or two before that link appears on the start page.
Now, on to brighter things:
In total, we've got 8-9k words of new content ready for the next build, along with a fair number of improvements. Very happy with how the week has been going so far. I'll likely see what I can get done tonight, then drop a new TEST build tomorrow.
Tomorrow is going to be a deviation to my usual work week. I almost always work on Thursday but this week have an errand to run that will keep me out of the house for part of the day. I'll be working Friday to make up for it.
If I am releasing a new TEST build tomorrow and haven't yet posted a "What Next?" poll, you may be asking yourself, what IS he going to work on Friday? The answer is simple, anything I darn well please!

Now, off to grab a bite to eat, then wade back into things in the hopes of doing some writing tonight!
