The Allure of Wanton Cove: Art Breakdown.

It's been a while since I've done one of these again.  Partially because it's hard to do art breakdowns for the paper doll style art.  Thankfully, I'm taking actions this month that should hopefully start giving us some more art I CAN show off to all of you!

This time around, we have a piece for The Allure of Wanton Cove, where the main character just steps off the ferry upon their arrival in Wanton Cove.

This first image is our concept sketch.  I thought the overall feel of the image was good, but I asked them to pull back quite a bit from the image in order to give more of an impression of the size of the docks and nearby buildings.  Also I thought the ferry looked a bit awkward near the dock like that so asked them to see if there was something they could do to improve that.

This second one  gives the flat colors, as you see, the artist pulled back from the image giving the player a much wider view of the town.  Also the ferry was pulled to the end of the dock.  At this stage we talked about some color choices, and I asked them to "dirty things up."

The third image got that nice "dirty" feel to it that made the image look like a place that was actually lived in.  Also had a lot of the colors done up in this one.  We talked a little more about the colors at this stage.

This fourth image the artist did a little work on the shading and colors like we had discussed.  Most of it I was happy with, but I thought the water looked a bit too bright so asked them to darken things up a little bit.

The final result turned out alright.  Not their best work, but it works well with the scene.  

And with all of that said and done, I'm now looking into commissioning the next set of art from the artist.  Hoping to have a couple more pieces to drop into the game next month!  The above image I finished adding to the game just minutes ago, it will be appearing in the next build of the game.
